Pixie Dust request for Padalyn

I haven't posted any updates on my Mom's status, because there really haven't been any. She went to rehab and of course hates it. She has been there just over 2 months now...

The good news....

Her cast and brace came off last week and she can actually walk!!!

I am amazed, I was truely thinking she would be wheelchair bound for the rest of her life. She has healed amazingly well and will return to her level of mobility from before the MVC. This rehab center gets all my kudos, they worked her hard and kept after her to do the work. My mom can me a real nudge when she wants to be, but she has been working very hard to get back.

She and I have had some serious conversations about health care proxy, living wills, and her long term care wishes. My father wants nothing to do with any of these conversations - he feels like he is invincible I guess.

She has even agreed, if I can get it all set up -that she would like to try a Disney Cruise!!!! I would most likely have to drive her to Florida, but she wants to do some more travel if she can. I was stunned. I figured she would not really want to tempt the fates - but she is game if the situation is all set up, and I go with her. This is all chatter for now, but in a year or so, we will revisit this. She liked her last trip to WDW, but next time I will get her an ECV - she will have a lot more freedom. (And I won't have to push!!!)

I just thought that you guys would like to hear that it has all been working out - a long haul - a tough haul - but good results so far!

I am so glad that she is doing well! Lots of good wishes for her continued improvement! :wizard:
I hope you all do take that cruise! :goodvibes

Thank you so much for the update. It's wonderful to hear that your Mom is doing so well. It's been a long road for all of you.

A Disney cruise is just what the doctor ordered! :teeth:

I appreciate all the good thoughts and wishes.

Mom is actually hoping to be home by early August. I am not sure, but she does walk. I took her out in her wheelchair for a "stroll" on Friday around noon. She tired out pretty quickly, which is why I figure she will be there (rehab) for another month. She has lost about 30 pounds, and her muscles have wasted a bit. She really needs to build up some strength. If she doesn't then all the hard work won't pay off.

But, she is doing great for just 12 weeks (the actual date of the MCV is 4/21/08).

Rick and I send all our good thoughts and wishes to you all during this time. Glad to hear she's going to be close by now.

So, I go to visit my mother on Friday at the rehab center. Imagine my suprise when I found that she wasn't there!

So, I checked on her status...she was discharged last Tuesday!!! She FORGOT to call me...

Ugh, parents - you just can't understand them.

Stacey and I went to her house and found her there, safe and sound.

So - thanks to everyone - Mom is home and doing well. She should be fine now. I am so glad this is just about over.

What wonderful news! I'm so happy for you and your family. Thanks for posting back. :grouphug:

Great news! I can't believe she didn't call you and tell you though! LOL

My father bent her foot under the wheelchair when taking her out of the elevator at the rehab center...she says the pain made her forget everything.

aaahhhh well....parents.......

thanks again to everyone for all the well wishes....I am just glad she is at home now!
