Cayla's (padalyn) Mom (Ruth) was involved in an out of state car wreck yesterday, we believe on I-80 in Pennsylvania, we don't know the details of what happened. Ruth doesn't recall the events. And the State Police report takes 2 weeks. Her car is totaled. She broke both her legs, and has chest bruising from the airbag. Thank goodness no evident cardiac damage. One leg (ankle) needs surgery. She may or may not be a candidate for the surgery due to other medical conditions. Ruth wants to be in a hospital closer to home and nearer her own doctors. Cayla is exhausted and has been working the phones, to get her transfered to a hospital here in NJ. Her father went out today to see the car, and said its a total wreck. Cayla will going out tomorrow to accompony(sp?) Ruth to the hospital here.

Everyone please join me :grouphug:

Feel Better Soon.

Oh My God! My thoughts and prayers are with everyone. It's so horrible when loved ones are hurt and far from home.

:grouphug: :grouphug:

oh man - I'm so sorry! My thoughts are with Cayla and her Mom!

I am so sorry to hear about this. I hope your honey is ok and her mom heals up soon. :grouphug:

Geesh,

Terrible news!

Hoping you get Mom home soon, and feeling better!

Oh my gosh, what a terrible thing to have happen! {{{hugs}}} Sending every good wish that all goes well, and Mom has a full recovery.

I hope she gets her transferred to a closer hospital and that she recovers quickly.

Latest update...I am awaiting the bed assignment at my hospital - the transfer is going to happen this morning (within the hour I hope to leave the area to get her)

Stacey was right about working the phones...I have a dent in my ear from my bluetooth!!

Her injuries are extensive and the fracture of the knee will require surgery for her to be able to walk again - but other medical conditions may prohibit the surgery - at which point she won't be able to walk at all. She has 2 fractured tibias (left near the knee, and right by the ankle) she also has a fractured wrist.

She has had a very bad year and this is just the latest in a series of problems. I am hoping for a partial recovery. At least there does not seem to be any cardiac damage.

I am hoping to see the pictures of the car my dad took when he went out there to title it over to the junk dealer.

I want to thank everyone for the well wishes, I really appreciate them all!

Thinking of you and your family again today. Having someone you love ill or hurting sure puts life into perspective doesn't it?

Wishing your family strenght for the upcoming ordeal.

I spoke to Cayla a little while ago, everthing with the transfer is going well. They were only about 10 miles from the hospital that Ruth is being transferred too. I'm betting they have arrived by now.

Thanks for the update. What a stressful time for all involved.

That's good news. I hope all goes well.

Ok - here is the latest...The ortho doc read all the reports and evaluated her last night. Today a cast was put on her right lower leg (the fractures to the tibia (shin bone) are non-displaced). Her left lower leg (which has the more severe fracture) will be put in a special brace. Unfortunately due to her other medical conditions she is not a candidate for surgery to repair the left leg/knee.

Her left hand cast was removed - the fracture is on the first joint of the thumb (next to the knuckle) and really doesn't need to be splinted per the doctor.

All in all she is looking a bit better and still has a lot of pain, but the outlook is more positive. We are checking into what type of rehab is going to be the best for her...time will tell.

again - thanks for the well wishes from everyone....

That's good that she's looking better and is closer to home.
