Pittsburgh, Pa Suggestions

:yay: Hi!! I went to OLSH and have some friends from Quippa who went to St. Titus for elementary school! Moon has exploded in the past few years for sure! We'd love to move back now, but realistically we're looking at probably 5+ years.
(Edited for spelling..)

Oh man! I went to St Titus in elementary school (early 90s)! That's crazy and such a small world!

It's so nice to see Pittsburgh love on the Disboards! I love the idea of the Just Ducky Tour and Duquesne Incline. The Carnegie Science Center and Heinz Field are right next to each other so that would make for a great full day if you plan on doing a tour of the home field of the super Steelers! The Andy Warhol museum is near the PNC Park area so that would be a nice place to visit before heading to a Pirates baseball game. Another local gem that is also close to that same area is the National Aviary which is a really nice bird sanctuary. I also love the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium (the aquarium is located inside the zoo). If you enjoy theater and music definitely check out the downtown cultural district (Benedum Center, Heinz Hall, August Wilson Center). You certainly can't go wrong with the awesome Kennywood amusement park and Sandcastle waterpark. Like pp mentioned, there are always combo deals available for those tickets. There is such a variety of fun things to do in the Burgh! Definitely don't leave town without getting a Primanti Bros. sandwich. I would recommend staying somewhere that is convenient to the city center as rush hour traffic from the more further out suburbs can be pretty fierce. I like the Sheraton in Station Square which is near where you would board the Duquesne Incline. The Greentree/Carnegie area (one of the suburbs close to town) has some nice hotel chains (Crowne Plaza, Extended Stay, Holiday Inn Express and Suites, Hampton Inn, etc.). The University of Pittsburgh area has a Hilton, Wyndham, Quality Inn, etc. There is also a newer Spring Hill Suites in the Southside Works area which is also convenient to the downtown/North Shore area and has an awesome Cheesecake Factory. If any Disboarders remember Mr. Rogers Neighborhood that show was filmed in Pittsburgh; and if any of you have little ones that are big Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood fans, those segments are mainly filmed in the Pittsburgh area. Have fun! :thumbsup2

Staying in town is very nice....you can rent bikes.....it is very nice to ride down to the point....nice restaruants in the cultural district area, see a show, go to the Andy Warhol museum, A beautiful baseball park. Pittsburgh is a great city to visit!! Have fun!!

Drive about 40 minutes west to Weirton, WV and eat at Dee Jays Ribs and/or Dicarlos Pizza.

If they are geeky/bookloving gremlins, I'd say hit the library. The main branch is GORGEOUS. I could spend years there. There are also a lot of cool museums that always have stuff going on. I'd say if you are into shopping or just getting a sense of the city culture wander down to the Strip District and Carson Street. And of course you HAVE to eat at Primanti's and couple of the many wonderful food trucks. If you are into outdoors type activities you can't go wrong wandering about the trails at Schenley Park.

And a couple things to be aware of: The city is built by three rivers. There are more bridges than Venice. And driving there is rather like driving in a fun house. Your perspective is all off due to the hills upon hills. Google Maps and Waze works well there, though. Also, be aware of something called "the Pittsburgh Left". That is, it is customary for the first one or two cars at a left turn to take precedence over those going straight.Yes, this is against the law, and yes its dangerous. But, its also what people do a lot. So if you are going straight and have cars turning left in front of you, just wait a few seconds before you go.

Enjoy! Pittsburgh is my favorite city for a reason :)

If you should do the Ducky Tour, please don't quack at me when I pass by in my kayak, LOL. The one time I was on the rivers in my kayak and I must have passed by 5-6 Ducky tour boats and they all quacked at me.

Original Primanti Bros. in the Strip District is a must. The chains all around western PA are lousy. Must do the original.

Rent bicycles at Golden Triangle Bike Rental. You can ride 100 miles around Pittsburgh and still not see it all.

If you or any of your party happen to be a cyclist, Bicycle Heaven is a must and free to go in and browse around. Thousands of old bicycles in there.

Definitely ride up the Duquesne Incline (built in 1877) up to Mount Washington for the classic view of Pittsburgh.

I didn't see Gateway Clipper dinner cruise mentioned.

And of course, while driving, remember this....
