Pirates of the Caribbean

I always figured the story was about a band of pirates ransaking a village. If there is a more specific story, I am not aware of it. :)

The movie by the same title comes out this July. POC was the result of Disneyland Imagineering when the ride debuted in CA. The movie should help to put the ride in perspective.

We saw a great preview on Friday for the movie.....it looks incredible.....I was really impressed with the effects and can't wait to see it.....

I believe I read on these boards somewhere that it starts when the voice says "Dead men tell no tales" and you go down the waterfall, then at the bottom I think it says "No need to fear evil curses says you, properly warned ye be says I" Then the ride is suppose to show pirates ramsacking towns for treasure, then at the end meeting their fate of the curse, with the pirates in jail. I'm not positive but I think this is the general idea

After you leave the treasure room where you view the hoard of pirate treasure (there isn't one at WDW) you pass through a dark tunnel (very surreal) where two voices speak: "No fear have ye of evil curses says you, properly warned ye be says I. " there is more... but the precise wording escapes me.

No fear have ye, says I. Properly warned ye be. arrgh. Who knows when the evil curse may strike the greedy beholders of this bewitched treasure.

I feel it is more "complete." They weren't even going to put one in at WDW, but did so after they had a lot of complaints. Guess sometimes they do listen to guests!!! :p

I have heard conflicting stories about the movie being truly related to the ride's story. However, they are making a big mess in DL (closing it down early in the busy season, building seating, closing sections of the park) for the premiere at the park.

WDW Pirates of the Caribbean used to be one of my favorite rides - until I rode the one at Disneyland! That one is so much better!! Now I'm always aware of something lacking - so riding it at Dl may not have been a good thing.

But, WDW has a few extras that DL doesn't have. I like the ending of the ride w/the 2 guards tied up in the treasure room.

Tony Baxter says in Theme Park Adventure magazine that the "dead man" statement at the beginning literally becomes the prophecy fulfilled at the end, and they don't make it out. Nobody makes it out when greed is the motivating factor.

Bob Baranick, another Imagineer, says "Dead men tell no tales" is what Pirates of The Caribbean is all about. It's the cursed treasure you have been warned about. You've been warned about it in the queue, you're warned about it before you go down the waterfall. The whole point about seeing the caverns, seeing the curse of the treasure, is that you've seen too much, you're not supposed to be here, and you may not get out of this.

"No fear have ye of evil curses, sez you...Harrr hu hummm.. Properly warned ye be sez I. Who knows when that evil curse will strike the greedy beholders O' this bewitched treasure..."

"Dead men tell no tales.."

"Perhaps ye know too much. Ye've seen the cursed treasure... Ye know where it be hidden... Now proceed at yer own risk. These be the last friendly words ye'll hear. Ye may not survive to pass this way again."

"Dead men tell no tales..."

They also "censored" the ride several years ago, changed what one pirate said

What saying was censored???

Its listed on "walt dated world" a great website that needs a better host.

It was the guy in front of the barrel where the woman was hiding. I think its was "suggestive" type dialogue

Here's the items that cover this from hiddenmickeys.org:
In "Pirates", a couple of people noted the changes made regarding men chassing women. Another notable change along this line is the pirate sitting in front of a barrel in which a woman is hiding. The pirate used to be holding what appeared to be her under-garments. Now he loudly comments that she took his treasure chest and she pops out of the barrel holding a tiny chest.

Yes, a pirate did once sit in front of the barrel where the girl was hiding with a veil like undergarment talking about how he would like to hoist his colors over that shy maiden and so on; but the girl looke shocked and her eyes are big and I found it funny!!

Regarding the pirate sitting in front of the barrel. Not only did they change the under gaments and the line about "hoist me colors over that winsome wench", but they also removed the line he says a little later when he asks the guests to help find her and promises "I be willin' to share, I be". This is even present on a video I have of the old DisneyLand TV episode where they introduce Pirates and the new TomorrowLand. I think the line is still there now, but he refers to finding the treasure now, not her. P.C. or not, I miss the old Pirates!!
