Just saw the preview on ABC and all I can say is that July 9th will not come fast enough!!! It looks so cool! Lots of action & some pretty funny moments too!!! Can't wait!!

I agree. Looks like it will have lots of super special effects. I can't wait for it to hit the theatres.

Not sure about Johnny Depp as a pirate though...

I just watched the trailer this evening too during Atlantis. DD and DS both thought it looked cool - but DS is SO into pirates, swords, etc. I asked him if it looked to scary and at first he said no, but then he was having second thoughts about when the pirates turn into skeletons in the moonlight. So we'll see.

I thought it looked like a pretty entertaining flick from the trailer.

My DW will want to see it because Legolas (the blonde elf) from LOTR is in it!!

Yes - Legolas and Johnny Depp in one movie may be too much to handle....I think there will be lots of repeat female movie goers...

I will admit the only reason I wanted to see it was because Orlando Bloom was in it, but after seeing the preview last night, it is going to be an awesome movie!!! Can't wait for July 9!!!!

I think Depp is perfect as the swashbuckling hero-type Pirate. The kind of pirate who could sweep the ladies off their feet, and steal their jewels at the same time. :smooth:

If he were cast as a heavy handed, evil pirate...I think you would be right...he doesn't fit that role.

Needless to say...I will be there opening day!!!

Johnny Depp is perhaps one of the most gifted actors of our time.

I can echo the knee-jerk reaction... Since he did Cry Baby he's been a heart-throb..... but he also did:

Edward Scissor-Hands (Brilliant you all know what he did)

Dead Man (Severely brilliant and dark, playing a dying man in the old west)

Fear And Loathing in Los Vegas (hilarious and brilliant playing gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson)

Benny and Joon (playing a handicapped romantic)

Ed Wood (as the b movie directing phenom)

Donnie Brasco (as a hard nosed under cover agent working with the mob, alongside Al Pacino)

The Ninth Gate (as a obsessed researcher seeking hell's gate)

Sleepy Hollow (as the fearful man unravelling the headless horseman mystery)

Blow (as a cocaine kingpin)

From Hell (as the drug-addicted Scotland Yard detective tracking down Jack the Ripper).

Though he is eye candy for the ladies, I think we can all agree that he is a superbely talented actor who has a long list of exceptional roles under his belt. I, for one, think Johnny Depp will add layers and depth to any pirate role he recieves, this will be a very good movie, IMHO.

Whoa...

I didn't mean to sound like I was Dis'ing (no pun intended) Johnny Depp. I agree he is a very talented actor. I just meant that he probably would not have been the first to come to mind when discussing pirate characters.

Be that as it may, I am still looking forward to this coming out.

whoops...sorry if I started something here....that was not my intention :) My fault!

I didn't think you were "Dis'ing" Johnny Depp...I just used your post to springboard my thought about him being well cast as the Pirate. I've always thought the Pirates have been given a bad name.
(I don't know why...thievin', drinkin', lootin', wenchin', ... )

I just liked that they weren't casting all the pirates as Long John Silver types.

MManiac...next time I'll try a different tack to make the connection. :smooth:

(Aargh...did ye notice the sailing term...;) )

Ok, I have to admit I want to see because of three things.

1. It's a Disney attraction

2. It looks really cool

3. Orlando Bloom is in it and he is just a hottie!!! I LOVED him in the LOTR movies!!
:smooth:
