Pirates of the Caribbean is going to be down the last week of the month!

They need to do the scheduled refurbs to keep the attractions running properly and to keep everyone safe. Yeah, it sucks, but it needs to be done. And since summer is coming up, Disney is doing it before the summer crowds come.

Courtney is right. It sucks but they need to get it done before the peak season crowds come.

On a brighter note...at least the blue bayou is going to remain open. At least the CM told me this much about 30 mins ago. :goodvibes

But if you look at the stats and/or queues then they (disney) should know that it's still sort of busy then. Plus some of us want to go during the less hot and busy times. So why should we have to suffer? Plus they could do the referbs at night when the park is closed.

So far Peter Pan will be down May 4-20. I heard on another thread maybe until June 7?

I understand that you are upset but crowd wise late april/early may doesnt even compare to summer peak crowds. And it isn't realistic that they can do it at night. I am not going to argue this point but it's necessary for them to refurb rides every now and then. Otherwise we'll have threads of people complaining about such and such ride needing new paint, etc. I am hoping IJA is next on their list. :thumbsup2

Oh! Awesome! We were thinking of making PS there anyways! :thumbsup2

No matter when they do the refurbs it's going to be during somebody's trip. And plus that whole week has "non peak" hours, so Disney isn't expecting that many crowds to begin with, that's probably why they chose that week.

The refurbs take longer than one night to do, that's why it's closed for an entire week.

That is tough. It was down for the major overhaul last time I went (where they added in Jack and such) in 2006. I haven't been on DL's PoTC for 6 years and have not seen the new changes, so it is something we all must sacrifice.

Oh no! That's the week were going. :( My absolute favorite ride too. We will be coming in on Sunday, and it says it won't be down yet. So I guess were gonna have to ride it over over that evening!

Anyone know the odds of them closing it the day before instead? I sure hope not! As upset as I am, I'll be happy with having it one day at least.

Unfortunately that's the risk you take going when it is less busy. DL wants to affect the least amount of people possible, so they do it when it is less busy.
They can't do the refurbs when the park is closed. If they did that, whatever they take apart would have to be put right back together before the park opens. They would spend all of their time taking apart and putting things together and not getting much of anything else done. Not to mention if they were to repaint some areas in POTC that happen to be near or under water, it would be impossible.
It is a bummer, but if they didn't do maintenance and refurbs, everyone would complain about how terrible and beat up everything looks.

Nah I don't do summer, so crowded that even with FP you end up more in line then on rides. Or it's too hot to want to spend the whole day out in it.

I really hope it is that less crowded that week. But frankly I haven't seen it be real "off season" like it used to be in years and years. Seems some schools some where are off for some reason, or there is some kind of event/convention going on.

I understand they have to go down for refurb. Some notice would have been nice on this one though. A little over two weeks doesn't give people much time to plan things. I usually will try and plan around a refurb on Pirates since it's our favorite. Can't do it though with that kind of short notice.

So I just have to hope it stays open that Sunday we arrive (hoping since it's a weekend they'll leave it open that day), so we can at least see it the first day.

I understand that they couldn't do it in one night but depending on the severity of the referb they could do it at night, spread over a certain time period. That way if it's nothing too major, like having to drain all of the water, they can get it up and going asap. Because some people now , like us, have to cancel their trip or rebook possibly for later. But then again it's disney and they don't really care either way. LOL

Because there's always points in the year where it's "busy". If they move it back two months or forward two months, there's likely some break or holiday where it's "busy". Unfortunately, someone has to sacrifice.

man that sucks. but maybe with all the closures + the economy maybe Disney will keep some there good deals going like the 5days for the price of 3 or some good packages even in to the end of the year *winks*
*tosses pixie dust around* lets hope

But i am sorry an it dose suck

It's interesting you bring that up, because before they rolled out this new promotion, they were still sticking with the kids price one, and we folks we were going after April 30th were wishfully hoping Disney to extend it or offer something for us. Lo and behold, they did!

I doubt disney uses CM's to do the construction and most eletro-mechanical folks are not going to work at night. The few number that it will effect does not outweigh the cost or to make it convienent for those who go during off season. And you are right, they only care about the $$$. If a great number of people boycotted the parks they would think different, but quess what....................

Jack

I doubt people boycott the parks, but with this economy they shouldn't be discouraging people from wanting to come. I know this will probably be our last trip for a few years. Just isn't going to be in our budget for a while, and we always went every single year before. Doesn't thrill me that a lot of my favorites aren't available.

Yes, this isn't mid-July, but it also isn't January either. April and May is the start of the nicer weather and when people start wanting to plan trips. People who go in the off season are spending their good money there too, and it's not cheap. Again I understand the need for refurb. But for this one, I think they could have a picked an even less busy month. I also think they could have gave MUCH more notice for people to plan around.

I find it funny that pretty much all the people who are saying "oh well, that's how it goes" have a few months for their trips. I'm guessing a closure for their trip wouldn't go down as smooth for them. LOL Yes, it is the way it goes, but I think people have the right to be disappointed.

Jen:
I would have to assume that since it was such a short notice that what ever they might be doing may have become even more acute and they definately do not this high volume ride down where there is a high volume of people in the park. We would love to go when it is slower and the temps may be more mild but schedules(school and work) do not allow. We are lucky if we can make it this year just because of the downturn and we don't do credit.
We were burned a number of years ago when we did not have a clue of what Disney does, never again...as best as we can.

Jack

Like I said I understand. But all I'm saying is, let people be disappointed. They spend a lot of time and money planning these trips. They have the right to gripe about it!

We wouldn't even be going this year if we hadn't already saved up for it and had the tickets paid for. Just doesn't help that they are deciding to close such a major attraction at what I don't consider to be THAT off season. I've gone many times during off season where a lot of people are there. As far as it being acute. If it was that big of a problem I'd think they would already have it closed to fix it.

I agree that people can be upset...however saying things like disney could do it at night...doesn't make logical sense.

I do want to clarify my wording...and maybe others too. This isn't "off season". There is not any place I have seen where disney uses the terms off season. What they do say is that it is not "peak" season. So there isn't really anytime during the year that is off season just that it isn't peak season. And disney has every right to do refurbs anytime of the year in their park but I think it makes perfect sense not to have any rides down during peak season as that would upset even more visitors. I am sad it will close on our 2nd day, however I am also still just happy to be in Disneyland and away from my daily worries for one week. :goodvibes
