Pirates of the Caribbean is going to be down the last week of the month!

I agree that people can be upset...however saying things like disney could do it at night...doesn't make logical sense.

I do want to clarify my wording...and maybe others too. This isn't "off season". There is not any place I have seen where disney uses the terms off season. What they do say is that it is not "peak" season. So there isn't really anytime during the year that is off season just that it isn't peak season. And disney has every right to do refurbs anytime of the year in their park but I think it makes perfect sense not to have any rides down during peak season as that would upset even more visitors. I am sad it will close on our 2nd day, however I am also still just happy to be in Disneyland and away from my daily worries for one week. :goodvibes

All the same meaning to me. I agree that they can't do these things just at night, for the reasons stated. But yes I think they could have gave more notice (as it is their calendar could be better to begin with, pretty sure WDW shows things much sooner). I also think for an attraction like this a month like January or February would be a better choice. If it's a matter of worrying about upsetting as less people as possible, right when the weather gets nice probably isn't the best option.

There are things that I will miss this time, but not really care too much about. Like Fantasmic and the Electric Parade. Pirates is more important to me, so of course I'm going to be more disappointed. Especially since I can't handle the thrill rides. And I will be checking the DL website a lot now, to see what other little last minute surprises they are going to spring on us.

It's not going to ruin our trip, but I don't see what's wrong with people expressing their disappointment here either.

Thank you for understaning my frustration. Disney definately should of had better notice than this! I think that they just wanted to hurry up and get over the spring break rush and then make the rest of us, that thought that this would be a good time to go, deal with this unreasonable closure. Like I said before, this is the only time that we can both afford to go and get time off, without the fear of losing our job, to go. I say again they could of found a better time than Spring.

I am always surprised by those who think with something being down its gonna ruin their entire vacation and that they need to cancel. Things are bound to be down at any given time.

When it is one of their favorite rides then yes it can be a deal breaker. Now I know that disney won't miss my money but...

I total agree and got scolded for saying so on disboards. I went to WDW and I so wanted to ride Test Track and Dinosaur but both were not possible. I wanted to do Pocohantas show and never saw it ever but I did not stay at home but instead I ate and ate and ate. I met so many nice people and helped some people and danced with a CM and yelled KANGALOOSH, and partied to the wee hours. TEST TRACK, my beloved TEST TRACK was no were in my mind when I rode so many rides and saw shows and ate and ate.

I also cannot see how a trip could be ruined just because of a few rides or shows being down. I would postpone a trip if it was important but cancel, no way. I do think it is rather late for them to be taking down the big rides though like Peter Pan and Pirates but then again that is suits

I will now go to my corner waiting for another time out for being rude and blunt.

I wouldn't cancel my trip, I have planned them around certain rehabs though. As it really isn't the same without Pirates or certain favorites. But I'm not one for dancing with the CM's though either! LOL The rides is really the main thing we go for.

Oh man, now I'll be stuck on IASW for our Apr 28 - 30th trip with my 2 yr old GS! :scared1: I was hoping for some repreives on POTC.:rotfl:

Look how close you live to the parks compared to some of us. Makes a dif when you have to travel to see something and it is not there. We just do the summer where there is a good chance most of the rides are going.

sorry POTC is going to be closed at the time you wanted to go! :sad2:

i would be REALLY bummed if that happened to me, too. and since we now have to travel all the way from Idaho to get to DLR, and only get to go once a year, we'd probably also reschedule over a POTC closure.

I would have been very bummed to see PotC down the first week of June. When I heard it was going down, I almost wanted to cancel my trip since Peter Pan's Flight is already going to be down. We leave on the 6th, so I'm really hoping PPF will already be open or have soft openings. Right now, the Disneyland website has PotC closed on May 1st, but open May 2nd. It looks like the refurb will be April 27th through May 1st. I'm sorry if anyone is going to miss it, but it looks like Disney is trying to close it when crowds are lightest. It's only closed a Monday- Friday.

Sorry to hear about the closure being at the time of your trip. That is a bummer!
The good news is that you will be visiting Dl. and hopefully everything else that you and your family are looking forward to doing and seeing will go perfectly as planned. And you never know, there might just be a soft opening, or another change in schedule for the refurbishment, during your visit.

DH and I have rescheduled in the past in order to see our favorite attractions. Like others who don't live nearby, it's a big deal to come to CA and at that point, the economics of experience takes precedence. It's a better experience value to come when the most important rides are scheduled to run. :thumbsup2

I remember one year we came, before I learned to check DL's website for closures, and I found that the Matterhorn was closed! That was when we lived in FL and made regular trips to WDW, so going across the country to see DL was a major big deal! I was looking forward to riding the DL exclusive Matterhorn and ... it wasn't running. :sad1::sad1: Had we known, we DEFINITELY would have rescheduled.

This trip we'll be there without Peter Pan's Flight. *sigh* But I understand that sometimes refurbishments need to happen over a block of time, not bit by bit each night when the park is closed. It can take a lot of time simply breaking down a ride before work can begin. A whole night could be spent just taking apart and putting back together.

Peter Pan is pretty close to the same between WDW and DL, just subtle differences here and there.

Thanks! We love it, both parks. We'll definitely miss PPF while there but we have enough good memories (and Youtube) to last us 'till next time. :);)

The differences between the two are quite significant, but the story line they follow are the same.

The WDW version is far more elaborate and done on a larger scale, especially the London scene.

It absolutely amazes me when I read here that people would cancel their trip over one attraction being down.

If you are spending $100s - $1000s of dollars on a trip to Disneyland and ONE attraction - dare, I say, maybe even two - being down is a deal-breaker for you, I am sad for you that you don't realize how much more DL has to offer for all that money you are spending.

I have shared this before. DH and I went to WDW for 8 days in October. one of the things I was SOOOOO excited about was seeing the Country Bear Jamboree. I could not wait. Shortly before leaving, we found out it was going to be down. NOOOOOOOO!

Did we reschedule? No. Did we change our trip? No. Did we even think about it? No. Why? Because there are 1000s of other things for us to do, see, enjoy along with the Bears. We had an amazing trip, have incredible memories, and a picture in the photo album of the all-boarded-up CBJ to roll our eyes at in memory of the irony that one of the things we have waited YEARS to see was closed during our visit.

They have to fix stuff. No matter when they do it, someone will be on vacation. Yes, be disappointed, but to say that one ride being down is cause to reschedule an entire trip makes me wonder if you truly take advantage of everything DL has to offer while you are there.

You are totally right but...my family enjoys certain rides. POTC happens to be one of those rides. If going on that ride makes everyone's experience more enjoyable then we shoot for that. Since we do spend $$$ and there are 6 of us, we will rechedule to see and ride what we wish.
DLR caters to many tastes in entertainment and we like to maximize the $$$ we do spend. It costs us nothing to change and go another time if it fits into our work and school schedules.

Have fun,

Jack

Do you realize the tone with which you write? You're sad for me? Seriously? Oh wait, sad for me and absolutely amazed that I'd shift my DL plans around if a favorite ride is not available. A+ for condescension. :teacher:

Like blackjackdelta, DH and I have the time to work around closures to see rides that are beloved to us. POTC is one of them. For us specifically, it's not just a great ride. We're not just excited to see it. It's a tradition. POTC has significant sentimental and traditional value and for us, riding it is part of the quintessential DL experience.

We have the time flexibility to go when we know the ride is running. If it goes down while we're there, then we'll deal with the change as it happens. We'll still enjoy the trip immensely because we love DL dearly (and we DO take advantage of everything that DL has to offer  ) but we have no qualms about shifting a trip prior to the departure date in order to see POTC.
