Pirates of the Caribbean 4!!!

Hey magic fanatic, let me tell you something. You ... You shareholder apologists are exactly what is wrong with Disney these days. Walt would HATE you...Absolutely DESPISE you! Defend profit taking all you want but it has absolutely NOTHING to do with the dream that Disney was started with. So sad. Pixar had it figured out ... How long until Disney ruins them?

Johnny Depp is the greatest actor of the decade and the original Pirates was one of the best films of the decade but to condone ... No advocate sequels puts you in the same catagory of those who decided to make Alvin and the Chipmonks the squeekwell ... Congratualations, you're a genius.

See I liked the movies, does that mean Walt hates me because I disagree with you?:lmao:

Get over yourself.

And yes, I would like to see Meet the Robinsons 2.

You bring up a good point, but you're wrong in some areas. A high grossing movie dosen't always mean its a great movie. I mean POTC 2 and 3 made a lot of money, but they turned out to be lousy movies. There's another issue that you're totally wrong about, you said that Disney's only reason that they're making #4 is to make a lot of money. Well here's the thing, Disney is an entertainment, recreation, and lodging industry. One of Disney's most important role is to serve guests. The guests are the ones who matter to them. They could care less that they made billions. They want the guests to be satisified, happy, and be served well. And by the way, how do you know that #4 will be successful if they hadn't start filming.
Travel Man, when I made the guarantee that Pirates 4 would be successful, I was talking about financial success. Because of the huge number of people that bought tickets for the first 3 pirate movies, it is safe to say that a huge percentage will also buy tickets for the fourth movie, guaranteeing it success. Now, that is not to say the movie will be as good as the others and if fact if could be worse than any of the previous movies, but it won't matter. Millions of people have bought into these films and will attend the next one no matter how it is reviewed. Personally, I have enjoyed all of three of the pirate movies and have faith that the forth will not disappoint.

As to your point that POTC 2 and 3 being lousy movies, all I can say is that this is your opinion, but not reality. The only way to measure success of a movie is to count the number of tickets sold to these movies and by everyones admission both of these movies were huge at the box office. Were all of the movies as good as the first, maybe not, but they were obviously good enough to put people in the seats.

Finally, I have to address the point where you say "Well here's the thing, Disney is an entertainment, recreation, and lodging industry. One of Disney's most important role is to serve guests. The guests are the ones who matter to them. They could care less that they made billions"I have to respectfully disagree with you. Yes, Disney is a company that is in the entertainment, recreation and lodging industry, I agree with you there. However when you go on to say that "they could care less about making billions" I have to strongly disagree. The single thing that drives the Disney Company, or any other company for that matter, is profit. Without a profit any company becomes insolvent. The higher the profit that Disney makes, the more money they have to put back into the company for future films, attractions at the parks, television shows...etc. It is amazing that somehow the idea of "profit" has a negative connotation to it when in reality "profit" should be the reward a company earns for turning out a good product or service.

Saxsoon, there many on this message board that believe that the
Disney Company should operate like many of the fairy tales that they produced over the years. It is a nice thought and makes everyone feel good inside, but as a publicly traded company Disney must always be aware of the bottom line and it's shareholders return on investment. I don't like many of the changes that I have seen over the years, but I understand some of the decisions that had to be made and how they effect the bottom line.

Put me down for being in favor of a second Meet the Robinsons as well.

I truly believe the 3rd was the best movie in the series, But everyone has their own opinion and I for one am fired about the 4th one, this series has been a very special part of my childhood!

I know this better than most because I worked at Disney World last year in the Disney College Program. One of the reasons they treat guests so well is because it differentiates them from the competition, and gives them an edge that is undeniable in the entertainment industry. It keeps people coming back for more. That is not to say they don't care though about us as guests. To be one or the other is not mutually exclusive. You can care about the guests and care about the bottom line. Sometimes they dip too much into one or the other and it hurts them, but they tend to balance themselves well. Certainly better than any other company out there.

After working 4 months at Disney, I still think I had spent more time on Disney property of some sort as a guest over my years. I am only 19!:rotfl:

I was really touched by MtR. The ending got me, and my Dad liked it a lot as well. He doesn't have an excuse to like it like he did when I was younger with my sis.

Loved #1, thought #2 & #3 were hard to follow as far as the storyline but still liked the action sequences.

As long as they dress Johnny up in that pirate outfit, I'll be there. ;)

I read today that Ian McShane from Deadwood is in talks to play Blackbeard. That would be outstanding if true! I love his Swerengen (sp?) character on Deadwood. Too bad I can't quote any of his lines, or I'll be kicked off of Disboards for foul language!!!

That would be cool! Ian McShane would make a perfect Blackbeardpirate:

Yep, Ian McShane has been confirmed!

Russel Brand, who has been mentioned earlier, however, has not. That was just a rumour.

Yes, Ian McShane is confirmed to play Blackbeard. Excellent choice:thumbsup2

Not sure if this was already stated in this thread ... I didn't have time to read through all of them. But I heard that the story line for the fourth movie is a pre-quel (sorry if spelled wrong) and explains the story of how Jack and Barbosa ended up at odds and how Jack came to make his deal with Davy Jones. Not sure if this is accurate, but I like the idea. They can leave out the deal with Calypso, though. That story line seemed a bit of an afterthought and kind of fizzled at the end of the last movie.

I actually hadn't heard the prequel theory...I heard they're all going after the Fountain of Youth.

From what i understand, the movie isn't a prequel. It's based on the novel On Stranger Tides

Here's a bit of info:
On September 11, 2009, The Walt Disney Company announced that in the summer of 2011, the fourth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean series would be titled Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. The announcement has fueled speculation that the movie will follow the plot of the novel, since Powers sold the film rights for the novel to Disney.[4] It was also speculated that Jack Sparrow would replace Jack Shandy as the story's protagonist. Powers stated that the Fountain of Youth would definitely be in the film, but Sparrow and Shandy are "totally different characters", and that Barbossa and Blackbeard might overlap.

Here's one more interesting thing about the plot, it's from Wikipedia though so, yeah:

The probable story is that Captain Jack Sparrow meets with Captain Barbossa in New Orleans before sailing off to find the Fountain of Youth together. Shomik Sarkar will befriend someone named Vidya and slap her 5 times. Aashay and shom will marry each other, as well. Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush will return to reprise their roles. New cast members include Penélope Cruz and Ian McShane with the latter slated to play the notorious pirate, Blackbeard.[17] Previous cast members Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley have stated that they would not reprise their roles as they feel their characters' storylines are at an end. Mackenzie Crook has stated that he also doesn't want to return. Filming is slated to begin summer 2010 in Hawaii.

I am devastated to hear that Mackenzie Crook doesn't want to come back though. What's up with that???!
