So just curious as never done Cabanas on Pirate Night - does it have the same main restaurant menu or is it something else? I don't like the Pirate menu so thinking of alternatives as didn't manage to get a Palo booking for that night (even though Platinum).

Before COVID, we would go to Cabanas for dinner to avoid the Pirate Night menu. They had a nice mixture of previous menus. Loved it and will do it again when Cabanas reopens for dinner.

Ah yes had forgotten it wasn't open at the moment! Fingers crossed it reopens soon. Great to know though. I sail in September so maybe by then things will be back

I haven't been on my first cruise yet but I read in the unofficial guide book that you can order off menus of other restaurants no matter which restaurant you're in...but don't know if cabanas counts?

You could just eat something light from the places on the pool deck (around 5pm) and then head to Cabanas at 10pm for the pirate late night buffet. There was tacos, burritos, crepes and so much more.

How is the pirate buffet for vegetarians? Or pescatarians?

The key word being "unofficial", while it may be possible to get an item on a different MDR menu (if it's a different menu), it is a bit of a hassle for your server to do so.

They don't seem to mind. I've had multiple servers offer to get me something from another menu because they knew that I liked it. But this doesn't really matter on pirate night because the restaurants all have the same (very underrated) menu.

They may indicate that it's no big deal, but it is going to cause some extra time and effort on their part, especially depending on which restaurant it's from (if they don't share a kitchen). They will literally have to take time out of serving their other tables and go to that galley to put the order in and get the item. It may cause delays for not only your other food items for the table but the other tables that server is servicing as well since they would have to go and do that.

Our server and I had a misunderstanding on our last cruise because he thought I wanted something from a different menu (that I had really enjoyed from the day before). He told me it was going to take some extra time but that he "didn't mind." We cleared it up (the item I wanted was in fact from the menu in the MDR I was in - too many mushroom and pasta dishes apparently) but it was going to be going out of his way.

And also all the MDRs either share kitchens or are close by (probably have internal stairs or dumbwaiters between them). Cabanas kitchen is several decks up, so much more of a hassle.

Unfortunately I've never heard anyone getting it from Cabanas.

Yeah this is my other option but the evening buffet I really struggle with too - I'm just a little fussy and most of the food has black beans in it

So although I'm not veggie I rarely eat meat (chicken occasionally at home and bacon but not anything else). I found there was a lot of meat and fish on the buffet but not much pure veggie apart from salad but then haven't done pirate buffet for awhile.

Fish is great - as is other non land food - my wife is a pescatarian, so that would still work for her.

I don’t really have a label as to what kind of food I eat. I wonder if it’s possible or problematic to request a dish be altered slightly. Say for example, a Caesar salad without bacon bits? I’m hoping the dishes aren’t all pre-plated. Many of the menu dishes which are made with fish( I eat some kinds of fish ) also have bacon in them? I wonder if it’s too difficult to order them without ? Since this is our first cruise, is this kind os request okay to ask? If not I will do fine, I’m very adaptable. The vegetarian choices look great!

On the buffet or in the restaurants? On the buffet its harder to request but in the restaurants its absolutely fine and if they can they will accommodate. I don't think many of the fish dishes have bacon in them but then I don't look at them so not sure.

It's very much OK to customize your dinner. I'm super picky about what I eat, so I do it all the time. My servers don't seem to have any trouble with it and my dinner doesn't come any later than the others at my table or at my server's other tables, so I guess they're used to this kind of thing in the kitchen, too.

Don't hold back! Ask for what you want and see if they can do it.
