We are not planning on doing any excursions in Nassau, but do plan to get off the ship and visit the straw market. My husband and I have been to Nassau before and was not impressed, but this is the first time my DS's 6 & 11 have been on a cruise. Does anyone know if this museum is worth visiting, and is it within walking distance of the ship. I thought my boys might enjoy this, but we plan to spend most of our time on the ship. If anyone has been, I would appreciate your opinions. Also, what is the cost?

Hey Mollie Jo,

I am planning on taking DD10 (11 by the time we get there!LOL) on January 27th. Will let you know all the details when we return!

You can check out their site at www.pirates-of-nassau.com

We walked to the Pirate Museum and back. It's really well done and our son, then 8, loved it!:D

We visited the Pirate Museum in 2001. It is a short cab ride from the pier. You could probably walk. I don't remember the cost--maybe $5-6 but there is a coupon in some of the literature you get durig the excursion talks.

This museum would be great for your kids. Lots of life size dioramas and an actual ship. Lots of history. DH and I enjoyed it but would not do again. There is a little patio in the back for snacks and I think a bar as well and a cute gift shop [if your into pirates]. Not much else in Nassau for young kids except beach!

Have fun.

We went to this museum about 2 years ago and enjoyed it.It is a guided tour and you get a full story about everything you see and can ask questions. The guide really gets into the whole pirate thing. We did not have our kids with us but there were kids there and they were having a ball. There are some parts that depict a bit of violence but I guess you have to expect that with a pirate. There is not much in Nassau that you can do with your kids. . We had taken a tour that took us to the queens staircase, the fort and then the pirate museum. We were in a mini bus and the driver just dumped us off at the museum we thought we would get a ride back to the ship but had to walk instead, but it was only about 10-15 min to get there. Stay on the main streets and really watch the traffic.

Everyone is so very helpful on these boards. We will definitely try the museum. Scratch42 let me know about your visit when you get back!:D

Will give the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly! of it all!LOL
