Hi,
First time cruiser here. I saw somewhere that the Pirate Deck Party is at an earlier time. But I only saw that one time and I don't see any other information about it. I only ask because we have a toddler and I don't know if she'll make it to stay up that late.

I think all the ships do a party between dinner settings. On the Magic last summer, they also did the fireworks during this time. On the bigger ships they are later. We were happy for the earlier start as well.

I'm not sure the party is always between the dinner seatings. I know it is on those cruises that it gets dark enough by that time for the fireworks (usually during the wintertime in the Caribbean). Other sailings, I believe it's still after the second seating.

I also have a question about this: On our three 7-nt Caribbean itineraries (Magic and Fantasy ) we did in the winter (so it got dark early, like 6ish ), the fireworks were still late, like after 10ish, i believe. My kids were exhausted, esp since we had an active port day. This was a few years ago. This summer, we're doing shorter Bahamian itineraries on the Dream, and it will be late August, so it will get darker much later. Is it a safe bet the fireworks will be 10ish? Last question, next January 2018, back on the Magic, in January, is this when the fireworks will be earlier, since it gets dark early? In these cases, I'm assuming the fireworks and full fledged Pirate party is at only one time (on the earlier side? ) Is this a permanent change? Thanks in advance.

On the Magic and Wonder, I don't really understand how they do it. I think it gets moved around a lot because their itineraries vary so much compared to the Dream class, and its often trying to fit in everything in a cruise. One time I was on firework duty and the cruise director came up, it was at the earlier time, and she was saying the next cruise she'd probably move it later because she didn't like it at that time...So I get the idea at times, its down to who's running the place rather than how light it is. Although, they're obviously not going to do them if its going to be light.
We'd often get an announcement in our embark meeting saying that this week fireworks would be earlier/later, we were never given a reason and I don't think anyone asked, they were only really telling us in case a guest asked.

@bbel Thank you! Would it be correctly listed in the Navigator, though? Meaning, it's pretty much set that day? Wondering if there is any rhyme or reason but maybe not?

Yes, it will be decided probably a cruise before, and known from the start of the cruise. It would usually stay the same for a while (depending on time changes). But it could change the next cruise, especially if someone embarks who wants it different and has that power (e.g., one CD likes it late, then another CD comes onboard but wants it early).
Usually it stays the same, partly because so many departments are involved and schedules have to be made for those departments. If they mess around too much, schedules get messed up and that could mean the tech guys aren't there, or the people on firework duty or the pyrotechnic guys don't set up in time lol.

Dream/Fantasy:
  • Mickey and friends pirate show is always between the two dinner seatings, with no fireworks.
  • Jack Sparrow show leading in to fireworks is always after late seating.
    • One exception was during last year's Star Wars sailings when they did the Jack show by itself, with no fireworks; fireworks only on Star Wars night.
Magic/Wonder:
  • Mickey and friends show (different from the one on Dream/Fantasy) leads into the fireworks. All in one show, not two separate.
  • This is usually after late seating. On select occasions (as discussed above), when it's dark enough early, and it fits in other schedules, and who knows what other factors, the entire party can move earlier, between the two seatings.

Very nice summation. Covers all bases.
