DAY ONE - ARRIVAL @ PORT ORLEANS, ATLANTIS TOWNCAR, DINNER AT DIXIE LANDINGS

CAST:
"Pinky" AKA PrincessAurora - Computer geek, web designer, and Disney Princess Fiend. Already planning next trip to The World.
"The Brain" AKA Captain_Nemo - Applied Mathematics Major, first timer at WDW, trying hard to put his trust in his "native guide".
(Please note all detailed food reviews are featured as a separate report after Day 8)

It was a dark and stormy night (or early morning in our case) when we left our warm beds and made the trek to Oakland International Airport and Disney World!

Coming from the west coast, the earliest flight we could get out of Oakland on that flying greyhound bus, Southwest airlines, was at 7:15am. Including the change of plane in Nashville that put us into Orlando at 5:15pm. You East Coast people have it so much better! That time change is a killer. Even after having to get up at 5:15am PST, we are all excited because we are FINALLY THERE, almost.

After surviving nasty plastic cheese and peanuts tossed at us by our Flight Attendants, I race to the baggage claim area. It seems I was a tad early pushing past all those people to get there to meet our Atlantis Towncar driver. I finally find Moe holding a sign with my name on it and off we go to claim our bags. I keep looking at my watch and wondering why Southwest is slowing down my schedule by holding up my bags. The bags are finally delivered and Moe takes it from there. With travel log, itinerary and plan to conquer The World in hand, we leave for our car.

First a pit stop at the market for water, juice and cold medicine for The Brain. It seems all that thinking gave him a bit of a head cold a few days before the trip but he's determined to kick it. I think we broke some kind of speed record as Moe was very surprised at how quick our stop was. Hey, why waste time with food when DisneyWorld is waiting?!

On the road again, next stop - Port Orleans. I am yacking about how great the weather is and how great The World is and how big the gators are when we see it - the entrance to The World. Just a few more minutes and we are through the gates of Port Orleans as twilight falls. What a lovely resort it is! All wrought iron and shady trees. It's wonderful. The bellmen take our bags, I take care of Moe and off we go to check in.

Registration goes smoothly. We are seen right away and everything is in order. I faxed my room request to the CRO 4 days before leaving and it pays off big time. Now we did pay for a King size bed and a fridge that was guaranteed at the lower price by the manager in writing on our confirmation letter. I asked for a view of the river by the carriage path. When we got to our room, I saw how we scored!

Our room was a corner room, 2 windows, king size bed, building five, third floor, room 5323. It was great. The view was so beautiful, we were close to the dock, pool (but far enough away that there was no noise), food court, laundry, etc.

A call to the front desk gets our luggage sent up. I unpack quickly, call for the fridge to be delivered and not wanting to waste any time, take a pass through the food court for our mugs. The food selection is very small. But hearing about the larger selection at Dixie Landings, we set out on foot to Dixie Landings.

(Hey honey, I know which way to go. We just follow the river. I heard about it on the DIS Board. Trust your native guide!)

We get to Dixie's food court (past Boatwright's Restaurant - just keep going) and order food. We both get chicken, mashed potatoes and corn bread for about $8.00 each. Cast member Cliff was very nice and great to us at the food court. I also LOVE the slushy machines (which I kept calling squishies, in honor of the Simpsons, all week - Anyway...). I got a Sprite squishy. Mmmmm, good squishy. We voted for the boat trip back to PO which was very nice and romantic. I took my leftovers back to the room to deposit in our fridge. Now I must admit that the fridge was not in the best shape, a bit unbalanced and the door would not close unless there was a book under it. There was only one book in our room that was the right size and it was a Good Book. It did save our food from going bad. (Note: When I returned home, I went to confession, said my penance so now I know that I'm forgiven).

We decided to turn in early. Tomorrow was an early day and there was much to do.

NEXT: Day Two - Animal Kingdom, Citricos @ the Grand Floridian for a surprise birthday dinner and we plot to take over The World.

LOL! I'm so glad you posted these again. I love your sense of humor, you make me laugh.

Now on to part 2 :)
