Hi all,

Last time we went to Disney (2009) pin trading was a big deal so I got my kids lanyards & pins from ebay before we left. If that still a thing? I was thinking about doing the same thing for my younger two this time, maybe putting them in their easter baskets.

thanks!

I read on here not too long ago that people still do it, and I was planning on doing he same thing for my boys' baskets - but now I don't know if I could get them in time via ebay...

They were doing it when we went this summer. Not as many as years ago, but many of the CM in stores have them, some at attraction entrances, and it seems like most CMs at AK trade. If you're there early, look for CMs in button down shirts or more formal business attire. They have great pins!

DH and DS love pin trading, we have had better luck with amazon over ebay for pins and with prime we get free 2 day shipping so plenty on time for easter.

they still do pin tread so get some pins and have fun ( I would get them at disney so you do not get fake pins )

It's been said that guests think management CM's don't pin trade or think they are "too busy" to trade which is why they usually have the best pins.

If you're trading pins, you're going to get scrapers (fakes).

My kids have had some terrific conversations with them. My son traded with the Epcot VP a few years back and they talked for a good 10 minutes even though he was clearly on his way somewhere. I only found out who he was because another CM told me after he left.

My daughter started her pin collection last year(age 6). I bought from a highly recommended ebayer and got 25 great pins for cheap.

We were at MK last week and she had a blast trading with CMs. She doesn't care about the pins as much as the idea of trading so I just let her do her thing. We even traded at Disney springs.

and the one souvenir I buy her is that years year pin(2015, 2016, etc.) The rest she saves for.

Fun idea to put it in their Easter basket! I actually might do this with the adults in our family! Our kids are a bit young.

We were there in Feb. Had a blast trading with CM's. Still going strong! :yay:

Yes we were there late December/early January and much pin trading still going on.
I will say this- it's mostly junky pins though. You can buy assorted lots on ebay for like .50 a pin. They're probably fakes but people buy that stuff and then they trade it with the CM's and what you see on the lanyards is mostly junky pins. So buy the junk and trade it for other junk as you won't be seeing rare pins from CA or France like you used to.
I am a pin trader. I didn't see people buying new $9 or $10 pins and trading it for the pins on the CMs lanyards.

This is exactly why I was going to order some from eBay - so my boys could trade them without me thinking about how much $ I was losing! They can use their own souvenir money to buy "real pins" while we are there. My older son is really into collecting stuff like Pokemon cards (he is convinced he will be able to sell them all one day and be a millionaire), so he's very interested in the pin trading. He already thinks he's an expert at determining which are "fakes" and which ones "are worth a lot".

Are there scrappers/cheap pins on Amazon? Or are they "real" ones on there?

thanks everyone! I ordered lanyards and a 50 pin lot from amazon that I should get in time. I'm going to put the little guys' lanyards in their baskets then use the pins for their egg hunt. They get too much candy anyway :)

My older two have lanyards & pins from our last trip so I'm sure the trading will start before we even get there :)

I have some fun ones from Tokyo as well. It is a shame, and now with all the scrappers, the ones from Disneyland are also usually the scrappers.

It can be hard to tell the real ones from the fake ones sometimes as they are all made in China. There is this one set of pins that were supposed to be LE 300 for a DL paris pin trading night. Yet you see 10 or 20 listed daily on ebay. The math doesn't add up. They don't sell for prices that a real LE 300 pin should command so everybody knows what's going on. Just have fun with the cheap stuff and trade it for other cheap stuff and you don;t get cheated.

Pin trading is not what it used to be. All of the CM lanyards are filled with the same scrappers purchased from MousePinsOnline and ebay over and over. The variety is not there and the quality of all of them are pretty much junk (sharp/rough edges, discoloration, dips in the surface, lines in the surface, etc) on every lanyard and in every pin book.

DD loves pin trading and has been doing since our 1st trip in 2008 when she was 5, and we just did it again in Dec. on our latest trip, and she's now 12. She is more in it for pins she likes, and sets she wants to complete, than for real collectibles. We trade with CMs at rides, shows, and restaurants as she spots ones she is looking for or one catches her eye. We also discovered that the resorts have pin boards, so we check the ones where we stay and where we go for our ADRs. We even traded with a family on the bus ride to MK this trip!

We have bought groups of random pins several times from Mousepinsonline.com and been very happy. They are reasonably priced and also ship quickly, as I have ordered within a week and a half before a trip and gotten them in time.

I enjoy trading and took my pins when we went for our first trip as a family last year. DH poked fun at me about it, but by the end of the week, he had a lanyard himself! Now he's totally obsessed with trading and wants to go as much as possible! But, its fine with me - DD and I love Disney and pin trading makes DH love Disney, so everyone's happy :)

It seems like trading had gone down for a couple years but we were there 2 weeks ago and it seems to have picked up. I saw a lot more CM's trading this past trip.
