I don't know if this is the right place to ask this or not....

I have decided that I want me and DD to trade pins while at DW in a couple of weeks. I know you can buy pins on the disney site. I saw some on ebay also. How do you know which ones are actually the right pins?? I know the ones from Disney are good but is there any other place to get them? Also, I buy ones I like, do I have to trade if someone asks me for one I want to keep?

TIA!

you never have to trade anything, it's your property.

only CMs have to trade. and the pins aren't their property either.

When I went for a girls day out last month, DD and I did some trading. Usually the people who trade are CMs and if they see you with a lanyard, they will ask if you you want to trade. If you don't you can say no thank you but if you do, then you can tell him which pin you want to trade and which pin you would like. 99% of the time they will be happy to.

Have fun! :hippie:

Ooooh pin trading is so much fun!

I have purchased a few pins from ebay. Be careful; make sure you are buying from a reputable seller and that the pins are genuine. Disney pins are imprinted on the back. (It helps if you are familiar with the pin styles.) You can purchase pins at the Disney Store also. I have seen good deals on multiple pin cards there. The price usually works out to 4-5 dollars per pin.

I am certainly not an expert, and have only helped my dd with her pin collecting, but I'll tell you what I know. To trade, approach another guest or Disney Cast Member (resort or parks) and ask if you may see their pins. Then, if you want to, request a trade. A guest may decline, but CMs will trade if you request to and have a genuine Disney pin to trade. A CM will not approach you nor are you obligated to trade with them. Note that proper trading etiquette mandates that no one touches anyone else's pins or lanyard.

I don't know how old your daughter is but I've found that it is more fun for her if I buy her an undesirable pin because if she LIKES the pin, she will never want to trade. Then she's sad because she has "nothing to trade":confused3 Or, I buy her three of the same pin so she can trade two. It sounds crazy but, hey she's 6.:rotfl:

Good luck and have fun!

We bought pins for DS 8 on ebay..he traded the "girl" pins for boy pins....he loved it.... pirate:

Our family of 4 trades pins on every trip... my DD(8) and DS(5) would rather trade with CMs than do attractions! It is a fun, but addictive hobby. Unless you intend on being a "serious" collector who is in it for $ I suggest you pick a theme that you want to collect (character, ride, movie, etc.) and hunt for those. Far too many otherwise! I have bought "lots" from ebay for trading, but do be sure to use a reputable dealer and you should have no concerns about "legitimate" pins. You can find lots for $2-4 per pin, while they are $6 and up in the parks so get ones for trading (though we always have a couple we want to keep!). Only other thing not covered already is that CMs will trade with you up to 2 pins, but you have to offer them a pin that is NOT already on their lanyards. Also green lanyards(CM) are for trading with kids only, and always have the best pins. You will get to meet and have great conversations with tons more interesting CMs - have fun and happy hunting!
