Hi All,

I haven't been active trading and just shipped my first pin in a while and learned that the PO is charging Parcel Post rate on our favorite little brown envelopes. Is this true or did I get one of those postal workers that takes there job seriously? The costs for a single pin was $1.10, is that constant with what others are paying?

Thanks

This is probably more than you want to hear, but it is an explanation of the new changes.

There are now three "categories" of First Class Mail, Letters, Flat, and Packages. A letter is 41¢ for the first ounce, a flat is 80¢ for the first ounce and a package is $1,13 for the first ounce. For all it is 17¢ for each additional ounce.

Letter have the following Dimension limits:
------------ Minimum Maximum
Length ----- 5 inches 11½ inches
Height ----- 3½ inches 6-1/8 inches
Thickness -- 0.007 inch ¼ inch
And a maximum weight of 3½ ounces.

Flats have the following dimensions:
--------------- Minimum * Maximum
Length -------- 11½ inches 15 inches
Height -------- 6-1/8 inch 12 inches
Thickness ----- ¼ inch 3/4 inch
* Flats must exceed one of these Minimum dimensions

Anything else is a package. And if more than 13 ounces (flat or package) then Priority Mail (or Parcel Post)

If you have a pin and it is wrapped in bubble wrap and then in a padded envelope you probably have a thickness of more than 3/4 inch and therefore it is considered a package.

Unfortunately it's true. Add delivery confirmation and insurance and the cost is even more. Nuts!! The prices are outrageous.

Wait until you try to send a pin international. Under the old rates pins could be sent by Global Priority flat rate small envelope for international for $5.25, $4.25 to Canada. It was great. Pins would take less than a week to get to the UK and Gemany, France, Japan and a little longer to Canada (their PO tortures them) and there was tracking.

The only GP flat rate envelope available now is the LARGE envelope at $11 a shot. Not Good!! I'll have to see what the cost of regular airmail is and go from there.

I can confirm that you are going to pay a parcel rate for sending a pin in a little brown envelope. The prices and categories are really bad. This last postal adjustment is crazy.

It's actually cheaper now to send a LBE overseas first class than it is to send elsewhere in the US. That's just crazy!

I just mailed back 2 damaged pins (seperate sellers). I used the smallest padded envelope I could find and it cost me $2.80 for both envelopes.

I mailed a few pins yesterday.
One went to CA and was two small pins, first class mail only. $1.30 (1.1 oz)
I mailed two pins and 1 badge overseas, first class: $2.70 (2.6 oz)
I used a large padded envelope to mail ten pins to the NE: $2.15. (6.80 oz) I also paid for $50 worth of insurance, and can't say it was worth it. That was an additional $1.65. :sad2: I rarely insure anyway. And this pretty much has decided I won't bother withthat any longer.
Two pins and one small badge to the mid section of the U.S. was $1.47. (2.2 oz) I paid $.75 for Del Conf. Again, I think I will be using Del Conf much, much less. More on a rare basis now.
I turned off my TA when the rates when up and have not been disappointed in my on-line trading going way, way down.
I trade a lot less now, and when time allows, set up multiple pin trades with the same person. But my trading has gone down to almost nothing compared to what I was doing.
Postage rates, mailing expense and time just make it much more questionable now.
