Pillow Pet FAKE!!!!!!

I can't believe there is a market for counterfeit pillow pets. If they were true counterfeits I would return it and demand my money back, and report them to the proper authorities. If its just a knock-off (inspired) item and my child liked it, I would keep it.

On a side note, I have never seen anything "brand" or "designer" named at a mall kiosk that wasn't a fake. I thought it was pretty common knowledge that those people sell counterfeit, or just inspired by items. If you want the real thing you need to find authorized dealers, mall kiosks rarely fall under that category.

Wow...they obviously don't care about protecting their brand.

On their website there is a big banner that says "help us combat pet pillow fraud" with a link. I had to look them up. i've never even heard of them before.

Well based on the response OP got when she called it doesn't sound like it.

I used to work as a trademark administrator for a commercial door hardware manufacturer. They had a HUGE problem with counterfeit product in China and the Philippines. Most of my day was spent communicating with investigators, instructing them on what action to take and reminding our local representatives the procedure for reporting counterfeit product found in the marketplace. So, when I hear a response of "there's really nothing that can be done about it" tells me they either don't care or they don't know what their legal rights are with regards to their product and brand. Maybe the person OP talked to was just some flunky that doesn't have a clue.

I might be mistaken, but I think that Pillow Pets are the only ones that can be machine washed? All the other ones I've seen say spot clean only. Being able to wash them is really important to me!!

I've seen them sold as 'Pillow Pals' at the mall kiosks. I try not to linger or even look at the mall kiosk people because they are so pushy...I did make the mistake of glancing at the Pillow Pals and the kiosk lady was on me like bark on a tree...making her secret just for me deals.I politely but sternly declined 5 times...she followed me to the store across the way and then shot me a dirty look and stared me down through the store window until I walked out and away. I don't like going to malls anymore because of the uber-aggressive kiosk people.

OP back again :)

Yeah I was surprised he wasn't all over me to make a report (or whatever it is you do) to the AG and BBB. He didn't say DONT do it, but he was just kind of "meh" about it. It's just such a HUGE problem that they can't get every kiosk, I guess.

I did look at the quality and honestly I never would have thought it was a fake! It's not cheaply made at all. Dd loves her "uni" and I think I'm just going to keep it. Though I hate to support the 'fakes', I do not feel that I would win a battle to try and get my money back - there is a big "no refunds - exchanges only with receipt" sign. Which, like I said in my op, I just thought it was for hygiene reasons, kwim?

My friend actually got one at the same kiosk a few months back for her dd and it's going strong (she also didn't realize it was a fake, never thought such things existed and that she had to "research" a pillow pet)

Thanks for all the responses everyone! :)

Call mall management! I used to work for a mall management and they would have been LIVID if one of the stores were a counterfeit! I bet you'll get the best results this way... and be sure not to be "nice" and "understanding" about it. Let them know you are ANGRY and disappointed they'd allow an illegal kiosk in their mall! (sorry but I used to handle complaints for an arena and the only way management listens is when people are irate.. it sucks. I know:( )

We have them at our mall as well. They are much cheaper than the actual Pillow Pets but they weren't really that bad looking for the price. The only thing wrong is using their logo. I assume you got a better price and if your DD likes it who cares?

Wow...they obviously don't care about protecting their brand.

My sis in law, a trademark attorney, would be shuddering at PillowPet's reaction to this. You *have to* defend your trademark, or you can ultimately lose it. Even if you don't particularly care about some certain infraction, you absolutely have to defend it, every time.

Exactly!

there is another thread on pillow pets on the budget boards. I have been search for these pillow pets. my bj's or walgreens does not carry them. so i did some research online and found this article from pillowpetspromocodes.com

How To Spot A Fake Pillow Pets Pillow
1. The easiest way is to look at the tag or label on the pillow. If the tag says anything other than “Pillow Pets” it is a fake. However you can’t do that if you are buying online.

2. If a website has any other name for the product other than Pillow Pets it is a fake. I am not a lawyer just a mom who wants to help. So I won’t name brands that are fake. Just be aware there is only one authentic product and several fakes.

3. To make sure you are not getting a fake pillow pets pillow made in China by some child sweatshop factory buy your Pillow Pet from their official website.

4. Pillow Pets does not sell their product in Walmart, department stores, Malls or Kiosks.

5. Pillow Pets never offers a promo code. Only the knock-offs offer promo codes.

6. Fake Pillow Pets look cheap! Because they are cheaply made

if you go to their website the first pillow is 19.95 shipping 6.95 second pillow 15.95 shipping 5.95 so all said and done two pillow pet 48.90 for the real thing. not too bad. better than buying one for $30.00 at the mall.

Number 4 is definitely incorrect. Real PillowPets are sold at kiosks. the My PillowPets brand does have direct affiliates who sell them at certain kiosks, you just have to make sure they are authentic. You can do this by actually looking on the tags. If they say anything other than PillowPets on them then they are obviously fake. It also is from Oceanside, Ca and it should say something about that as well. Also located on all animals (usually somewhere near a foot of the pillow) should be their logo sewed into it.

Hope this helps.

Shouldn't the animal have some kind of tag to say it is the pillow pets? I would definetly email the website. Fakes being out there doesn't surprise me though. I mean look at all the different names of silly bandz out there. I would be mad if they were using a sign from the real company to sell fakes!

A tag means nothing. I just bought my daughter a Kate Mack swimsuit on ebay. The price was great, half of retail, shipped from the US so thought it would be authentic. Get it to realize it is def. a fake, even though it has a Kate Mack tag on it.
