Piercings/Tattoos

bwhahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

:headache:

in fact Carly is more attractive to me because of her life choice in having tats and having a great vocal, being attractive, AND open minded to the world.....attractive!

mouth piercings unhygenic.......talk about being uninformed...but hey at least I'm not the one uninformed.

going into interviews....you do know these things are able to be covered right???? long sleeves..put in a clear retainer for the piercing, etc... again..UNINFORMED!

built in survival instincts...about tats and piercings....oh man you can't buy comedy like this!
That's what makes me laugh. I'm sure some people have tattoos and piercings that go unnoticed.
I have to tell people about mine, and it surprises every person I tell :teeth:

yes it was. They don't like tattoos...and nicely put their opinions.

Do I agree? Nope.

Did it change my mind about adding to my collection? Nope.

In fact, I've been shoppping for new jewelry :teeth:

was the whole post writeen well etc.. YES

but it was not informative, and neither are the reasonings given. If someone doesn't like them fine whatever, no skin off my back....but when they try to justify it with uniformed information...that's where it ticks me off.

mouth piercings unhygenic??? if they are done properly and taken care of properly you'd have a hard time finding a dentist with a cleaner mouth 2 weeks after getting a mouth piercing.

and then the whole built in survival instinct....well my instincts must be broken then because I gravitate towards those people and talk about our appreciation of the art...not think they are going to try to mug me.

It's on my inner left ankle. It's about the size of a nickel. It's two flowers, and some small leaves. The centers of the flowers were supposed to be white, but apparently I'm one of the strange ones that white doesn't "take" on. The white is now flesh colored.

If only the whole tattoo could have been white. :rotfl:
:lmao:

Look, the OP asked how people view multiple piercings and tattoos. I took that to mean that she wanted honest opinions. Obviously, people who have them appreciate and enjoy them. Those of us who don't, may choose not to tattoo or pierce for a variety of reasons. I gave my honest opinion as did Camicar. Whether or not facial piercings, particularily in the mouth, are or are not hygenic is irrelevant. Camicar "believes them to be unhygenic" and would not choose to have one. She isn't asking you to believe her, or to remove yours if you have them. She was giving her honest opinion, which was what the OP asked for.

Whether we like it or not, and whether it is right or wrong, is irrelevant. We are all judged by our appearance everyday. How you present yourself to the world is absolutely your choice. What I think about it is mine.
Yes I did ask.:thumbsup2

have em cover the whole thing in white then and voila' flesh colored ankle again :rotfl:

these familes at the compound that was raided "believes" things as well. Make their thoughts true or informed???

I cover my tattoo and piercings when I go mugging..... it justs gives the victim something extra to identify you with;)

Warning: here is my honest opinion. If you don’t want to read a negative opinion about piercings and tattoos, stop reading now.

I do not like tattoos and facial piercings. As a matter of personal taste, I think they are unattractive and often downright disfiguring in that they make the person look far less attractive than they truly are.

I have seen hundreds of tattoos and I have not seen one I consider attractive or adding positively to a person’s appearance. Most, IMO, detract from the person's appearance. And I do think they are very distracting -- I know, for example, that when Carly Smithson is singing on AI all I can see is that huge tattooed sleeve on her right arm -- what was she singing again? So while I don't care one way or the other about anyone's personal taste in graphics whether they are on their bodies or the walls of their home, I am not a fan of tattoos and I find them distracting. So if someone were to walk in for a job interview with visible tattoos, I'd have to work at ignoring the tattoo to focus on their other attributes. If you do something -- whether it's dress or body modifications or personal quirks -- that distracts from selling your qualities during an interview, you are doing yourself a disservice.

I don’t like facial piercings at all and mouth piercings actually disgust me because I believe them to be unhygienic -- I kinda of have the same feeling about them as when I see someone picking their nose or spitting.

To me, these are fads, fashion fads -- IOW, they are no different than any other fad from Pet Rocks to Webkinz to this season's floral dresses. And I cannot imagine why someone would want to permanently alter their body for a fad. It’s kinda like if the Farrah Fawcett hair and polyester shirts I wore in high school in the 1970s were permanently affixed to my body and I couldn't remove them. So, when I see a younger person sporting these current fads, I just think they are part of the herd of faddists adn that they are just one in a crowd, nothing special.

When I see a middle aged man or woman sporting a new tattoo or piercing, I have the same reaction I do when they get a **** job or buy the red Corvette – midlife crisis and a desperate attempt to forestall the hands of time.

Or to quote PJ O’Rourke; “The weirder you're going to behave, the more normal you should look. It works in reverse, too. When I see a kid with three or four rings in his nose, I know there is absolutely nothing extraordinary about that person.”

Yes, facial piercings and tattoos do affect how I view a person initially. And in fact, aren’t they supposed to? If a person weren’t trying to make a statement about themselves thru their fashion choices, then they wouldn’t be modifying their body to begin with.

Like it or not, how we present ourselves to others visually has always had an impact on how we are viewed and always will – the visual impact we make is the first clue to others about who we are. Our built-in survival instincts cause us to make snap judgments about others as we try and figure out if the stranger approaching us is a friend or a foe -- that is something that is hard-wired into us in order to enable us to survive. You can rail against reality as much as you want, but it doesn't change reality.

I agree that your post was well written and I appreciate your honestly. The only part I really have a problem with is the bolded above. And while I know it isn't your quote-- do you really believe just because someone has a facial piercing or tattoo that there "is absolutely nothing extraordinary about that person"??

ETA: Or are you just using that 'nothing extraordinary' about their realms of fashion or use of fads or what-have-you?

I think it boils down to personal preferences. For me no...but for others personally I dont care what people do to their bodies. Would I have that kind of stuff done. No, but Im a scaredy cat too.

I'm here...... I use dictionary.com!:snooty:

Just caught this thread, and figured I would join in....if that is OK?.......

I am a somewhat SAHM...I work part time as a sub teacher and am a child advocate at the local elementary school as well....working in the behavior classrooms and on the pupil evaluation team.........We live in an upscale neighborhood, and dh and I are on the football boosters and the PTO, we are also team parents for DS karate demo team..............
That being said we sort of surprise people when they see our ink, I always get "you don't look like someone who would have those".....I figure that they are just close minded, and I never bother to ask what sort of people do then?..................I know that there have been some judging looks from parents who don't know me, when I have picked my ds up at theater camp and I have on shorts and a tanktop.....that just makes me want to get more ink.....

Unless I am wearing long sleeves, pants, socks, and my hair down, mine show. Dh can wear a short sleeve dress shirt, and you still wouldn't know he has any....now if he has a muscle shirt, or no shirt and shorts on that is a whole different story. He really shocks people from his office when they see him out of work, lol.

I have 17 tats, and my tragus, and upper cartilage pierced on my right ear.
All of my tats are my designs and are all very pretty and very thought out. I have one on my left ear that Chris Garver saw at a show, and he loved it and was very impressed with the work, and even called my artist to talk to him. I have one on my left ankle that is a moon with with a vine wrapped around it with flowers, that continues onto the top of my foot. I do have a very different one that I designed myself on my lower back...call it what you want (stamp, target etc) but I got it for the reason that it masks stretch marks from being pregnant that show when the shirt rises up a bit and the lower rise jeans don't meet when sitting. It goes from the top of my "crack" up pretty high, so no matter what sort of pants I wear it doesn't look odd.
I have a couple of chinese symbols that say love and happiness ( I even went to our local college's chinese professor to make sure it said what I wanted and not something else) and I have one that says queen and dh has the symbol for king.(long story to it)

I have a lot of different flowers as I can't grow a plant to save my life and this way I always have beautiful flowers that I don't have to worry about watering,;)
I have a frog on a shoulder, and a turtle on the top of my wrist with a "bracelet" going around it, I wear a lot of gold braclets on that arm and people always look twice to see if the turtle is a tat or real.
I have on my upper left arm a beautiful pink dragon named queen Mabbeline as she has long eyelashes, she sits in a bed of flowers that has very dainty swirls looping all around to more flowers, a special saying between dh and myself (he has it across his stomach) a pyramid with the eye of Rah on my upper right arm, an arm band of flowers around my arm under it, a skull with a pink rose in the eye, and an ankh on my upper back on the rightside, some moons, suns, and stars. I have a cherry stem with two cherries hanging from it on the back of my neck and words delicious under it. (also something personal with meaning) I have a moon with the word Karma under it on my right ankle (this is the one that started it all!!)
I am getting on the front of each shoulder next month a nautical star in red with devil horns on the left, and one in white with a halo on the right.

Dh has grumpy on one upper arm (that is his nickname as he always looks this way and he is the happiest guy ever) with a chain band under it...he has a huge patriotic piece on the other upper arm, with an eagle head, red white and blue flames, a $100 dollar bill, a flag that looks like it is under the skin, and a band with the words these colors don't run... this piece is amazing and has been in a tattoo magazine............he also has the Mt. Dew design on his upper back....he is a dew addict....he has a skull with a dagger through it on his calf with ds name around the dagger handle...he has more I just can't think of them.

I know plenty of teachers that have tattoos and ones that have asked for the card from my guy as they want one. I know that our local D. A. has a few and 2 judges that have huge back pieces. When I was in last week to the studio to hang out (we have become friends with them in there) a 77 year old women came in to get one, I got such joy out of watching her get this, she had always wanted one and figured it would rile her kids up a bit, lmao!!!

I look at it like this....people collect a lot of different things, I collect skin art and my collections require no dusting!! When I am old and wrinkled at least I will be colorful and easy to identify;) Between the tanning bed and the tattoos I will be a dermatologists nightmare!!
I admit it is addicting, I love the whole feel of it, not a single one of mine has hurt (honest not a single ouch of pain) and that is half the reason I have so many...the only one that was an issue was the ear one and only cause it was wicked loud, if I do more on my ears I will wear ear plugs for sure!!!
My foot one is almost my whole foot onto my big toe and I was prepared for pain...nothing, though my foot did swell a bit for a day.
The longest I have sat for one was 7 hours...other then my butt falling asleep sitting that long it was no big deal.

Sorry for the long ramble......I will end with this......the difference of people with tattoos and those without is that those of us who have them, do not judge those who do not have any.................
