Thanks for the Flying Fish review. FF was already high on my list of anticipated meals for my March trip, this just ratchets the anticipation one notch higher. Now I just need to make sure I work up a full appetite after lunch to make sure I have room for all courses. This is one restaurant where I plan to get the full app, entree, dessert deal. I love well cooked calamari, but have been disappointed at some places in the past. Nothing like wanting a great piece of squid and ending up chewing on small shreds of shoe leather. Seems this is more than a safe choice at FF.
Hi there - thanks for reading; glad you enjoyed our FF dinner recap.
I hope you have a great meal when you dine there in March - I'm sure you will because they serve wonderful food. As for the calamari ... I double checked with the hubba and he reaffirmed that it was terrifc - not a piece of shoe leather in the bunch!
Curious to see if others have been receiving the amuse and palate cleanser, though I'm sure I'd be just as happy without. And being a dude, if it was because of showing some skin, if I did the same, I probably would just be booted out
Based on some of the replies I've seen here it looks like the amuse and palate cleanser were a birthday offering from the restaurant staff. I have to say that FF is really generous about things like this in our experience - we celebrated an anniversary dinner there a few years back and we were given complimentary champagne and desert (on top of the dessert we already ordered).
I'm sure you can show some skin and see what happens ... just be careful about what you flash!
Have a great trip!!
Um, it's the cleaves....we had anniversary buttons.

Kat, did you make on-line ADRs? Just curious because I know it noted my birthday on the on-line reservation and I wonder if that made a difference. I did just notice that they gave me a birthday menu that night as well ... it had to be the birthday and not the cleaves after all. Like I said ... my cleaves aren't exactly impressive!
Ah! Love the seafood! Do you have a McCormick and Schmick's near you? They have some of the best fried calamari I've had and it's served with 3 different dipping sauces. The menu is changed twice a day depending on the fresh fish they get. It's a huge of fish, and it tells you exactly what the fish is and where it's from. It's definitely high on my list of places to go.
Hey there! Thanks for reading. We don't have a McCormick & Schmick's near us, more's the pity. We have found a place nearby that actually does serve pretty good seafood (for Stinktown) so maybe Jay can try their calamari some day. It all rests on his shoulders since I don't eat the stuff.
...hey to HP (first things, first)
Uhm...well...excuse me for correcting a fantastic author...but...that not sitting VERTICAL...that’s a ‘LEAN’. You...ah...only get ‘partial credit’ for sitting upright – Jay gets the remaining nod.
I had to lean to make the picture look better (and to flash the camera!).
Looks like you’ve been visited from ‘ghosts of birthdays past’...with...what appear to be...some future visits from ‘ghosts of birthdays present’. Be careful for the ‘future visits’...as they require massive amounts of aspirin and long periods of ‘quiet time’ for ones liver to rebound.
I was making up for years of missed birthday drinks.

Actually, I had no ill effects from my day of drinking. I don't know if it was because it was well spaced drinking or if because much of it was accompanied by food or because I was sucking down water like crazy, but I humbly accept it for the gift that it was.
Wonderful installment – really enjoyed this post...looking forward to print/photos of your birthday DIS/cake meet. Thanks for taking the time to do this.
Happy New Year...K
Thanks for taking the time to read Kevin - Happy New Year to you and yours!
We have all really been missing the boat here. The one thing that is different is the presence of handsome Jason!
It's a distinct possibility ... he does have that dark, mysterious, handsome man aura. And we do like to say that he's the second most interesting man in the world.
What a nice Birthday meal. I was at the Flying Fish the first week of October and my bouche was unamused, and my palate remained uncleansed. My server was great, but sometimes I think servers wonder who this weird kid ordering all the wine is...
And I almost ordered that cheese plate too, oh how I wish I had, it looks great.
Hi Laura! Thanks for stopping by to take a read. Sorry to hear that you, too, left with an unamused, dirty palate.

We have decided that it was the birthday that led to such lovely surprises and this only pushes the Fish higher on our short list of approved Signature restaurants.
The cheese plate has never been a disappointment here - order it the next time you're there!!
