Well now B, finally an entree that even MG would enjoy! :thumbsup2 Both your's and Jay's meals sounded fantastic. Anything smothered in veggies is right up my alley anyway.

It would have killed me to leave that dessert behind too. ;)

BTW...did that sunburn hurt as much as it looked like it did? OUCH. :scared1:

Hiya Goosie! I'm glad you liked this review and could even find something we ordered for a change that you might like. :goodvibes

Sunburn? Not a bit ... not really even burned. Jay and I both tend to turned reddish brown after getting some sun and by the next day it usually fades to brown. I have all that yellow in my skin ... and Jay is almost mediterranean in his coloring ... we needs the sunlight so we don't look weak and sickly!

Happy New Year Nancy - lotsa love coming your way from Stinktown.

Hiya Kat! Thanks for reading. I'm curious ... did you guys get the happy mouth and the sorbet since you were there at the same time we were? I hope so ... otherwise I'm going to feel kind of bad and I'm going to wonder what we did to earn such a lovely gift.

Maybe we could all rent out the Ditch one day and eat and drink together there? :thumbsup2

No, we didn't get anything extra! Y'all are becoming famous I tell ya!:rotfl2:

Damn! I had no idea ... I thought everyone was getting that kind of treatment. :confused3

I wonder if it was the birthday button ... and the cleaves??? :lmao: Next time we need to all sit together and see what happens ... other than alcohol fueled hilarity, I mean. :goodvibes

I am betting it was the birthday celebration. I think I was flashing some cleavage the night we were there, so I don't think that did it for you... :rotfl:

Thanks for the Flying Fish review. FF was already high on my list of anticipated meals for my March trip, this just ratchets the anticipation one notch higher. Now I just need to make sure I work up a full appetite after lunch to make sure I have room for all courses. This is one restaurant where I plan to get the full app, entree, dessert deal. I love well cooked calamari, but have been disappointed at some places in the past. Nothing like wanting a great piece of squid and ending up chewing on small shreds of shoe leather. Seems this is more than a safe choice at FF.

Curious to see if others have been receiving the amuse and palate cleanser, though I'm sure I'd be just as happy without. And being a dude, if it was because of showing some skin, if I did the same, I probably would just be booted out ;)

I think you're right Elin. Besides, even with the weight I've put on this year my cleaves just aren't very impressive. :rotfl2:

Ah! Love the seafood! Do you have a McCormick and Schmick's near you? They have some of the best fried calamari I've had and it's served with 3 different dipping sauces. The menu is changed twice a day depending on the fresh fish they get. It's a huge of fish, and it tells you exactly what the fish is and where it's from. It's definitely high on my list of places to go.

Saturday, October 17th - They Soar Through the Air With the Greatest of Ease ... Those Tasty Young Fish on the Flying Trapeze!

Here we are mid-meal; still standing ... er, sitting ... after all that booze!

...hey to HP (first things, first)

Uhm...well...excuse me for correcting a fantastic author...but...that not sitting VERTICAL...that’s a ‘LEAN’. You...ah...only get ‘partial credit’ for sitting upright – Jay gets the remaining nod.

Birthday Drink Tally at 9:30PM:

1 Mimosa
6 small glasses of Moet & Chandon Champagne
3 glasses of champagne ala' Flying Fish
1 shared small cup Spanish red wine
1 shared Happy Lye-chee
3 full glasses of Italian wine
1 glass of Rosa Regale
A whole lotta water!

Looks like you’ve been visited from ‘ghosts of birthdays past’...with...what appear to be...some future visits from ‘ghosts of birthdays present’. Be careful for the ‘future visits’...as they require massive amounts of aspirin and long periods of ‘quiet time’ for ones liver to rebound.

Wonderful installment – really enjoyed this post...looking forward to print/photos of your birthday DIS/cake meet. Thanks for taking the time to do this.

Happy New Year...K

What a nice Birthday meal. I was at the Flying Fish the first week of October and my bouche was unamused, and my palate remained uncleansed. My server was great, but sometimes I think servers wonder who this weird kid ordering all the wine is...

And I almost ordered that cheese plate too, oh how I wish I had, it looks great.

Hi there - thanks for reading; glad you enjoyed our FF dinner recap. :goodvibes

I hope you have a great meal when you dine there in March - I'm sure you will because they serve wonderful food. As for the calamari ... I double checked with the hubba and he reaffirmed that it was terrifc - not a piece of shoe leather in the bunch! :thumbsup2

Curious to see if others have been receiving the amuse and palate cleanser, though I'm sure I'd be just as happy without. And being a dude, if it was because of showing some skin, if I did the same, I probably would just be booted out ;)

Based on some of the replies I've seen here it looks like the amuse and palate cleanser were a birthday offering from the restaurant staff. I have to say that FF is really generous about things like this in our experience - we celebrated an anniversary dinner there a few years back and we were given complimentary champagne and desert (on top of the dessert we already ordered).

I'm sure you can show some skin and see what happens ... just be careful about what you flash!

Have a great trip!!

Um, it's the cleaves....we had anniversary buttons.:lmao::rotfl2:

Kat, did you make on-line ADRs? Just curious because I know it noted my birthday on the on-line reservation and I wonder if that made a difference. I did just notice that they gave me a birthday menu that night as well ... it had to be the birthday and not the cleaves after all. Like I said ... my cleaves aren't exactly impressive! :rotfl2:

Hey there! Thanks for reading. We don't have a McCormick & Schmick's near us, more's the pity. We have found a place nearby that actually does serve pretty good seafood (for Stinktown) so maybe Jay can try their calamari some day. It all rests on his shoulders since I don't eat the stuff.

I had to lean to make the picture look better (and to flash the camera!). :rotfl2:

I was making up for years of missed birthday drinks. ;) Actually, I had no ill effects from my day of drinking. I don't know if it was because it was well spaced drinking or if because much of it was accompanied by food or because I was sucking down water like crazy, but I humbly accept it for the gift that it was. :goodvibes

Thanks for taking the time to read Kevin - Happy New Year to you and yours!

We have all really been missing the boat here. The one thing that is different is the presence of handsome Jason! :goodvibes

It's a distinct possibility ... he does have that dark, mysterious, handsome man aura. And we do like to say that he's the second most interesting man in the world.

Hi Laura! Thanks for stopping by to take a read. Sorry to hear that you, too, left with an unamused, dirty palate. ;) We have decided that it was the birthday that led to such lovely surprises and this only pushes the Fish higher on our short list of approved Signature restaurants.

The cheese plate has never been a disappointment here - order it the next time you're there!!

Come to think of it, this ADR was made by someone else without a notation of our anniversary so you're probably right! Don't underestimate the cleaves girlfriend, it has served you very well.:rotfl2:

Brenda, I don't post much but I follow you everywhere. LOL

When we went to FF in Dec. we were celebrating our 38th Ann and hubby's b-day (were married the day before his b-day) These were both noted in the ressie and we didn't get the extras either. A candle in his dessert was it.

My guess is it has to do with the dining plan. We were on it and I don't believe you were?
The FF is still my favorite on property.

Well, next time try adding that note to an ADR for the two of you when appropriate. I know it doesn't guarantee anything (CA Grill didn't do squat for X&Y but we did get a primo table) but it can't hurt to try. :goodvibes

Hi Polly! Belated happy anniversary wishes to you and your hubby - 38 years is a terrific accomplishment! :goodvibes

I'm a little bummed that you weren't on the receiving end of a bit more magic, though. You are correct - we weren't on the dining plan - but I hope that's not the differential here. It could just depend on the server or the mood of the staff.

Thanks for reading along with us!

A funny thing happened on the way to bed last night ...

I was teasing Jay about how young he still looks for someone rapidly approaching the 4-0 ... and I commented on the fact that he doesn't even have those smile-related starbursts at the corner of his eyes.

And I said, "When people realize we're married they're going to think I'm raiding the crobble."

:confused3:confused3:confused3

There was this long moment of silence and then I started laughing because what I'd meant to say was "Robbing the cradle."

And while I'm laughing Jay said, "What are you, the Hamburgler? Crobble, crobble!!!"

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

So after explaining to him what I'd actually meant, we both decided that raiding the crobble is more fun. Jay's been walking around the house all morning growling "crobble crobble" at me. :lmao:

I think it's become our new catchphrase (until I forget) ...

Crobble crobble!!!

:lmao::lmao::lmao:

Since you posted the story here, I had to add my design here too...

Wow, I think you may have the makings of your next dining review thread title, "Raiding the Food and Wine Crobble!"
