Please forgive me if this has been addressed before, I searched the DIS and did not find what I was looking for.

I'm trying to decide if I need to upgrade my 8 and 9.5 year old to "adults" on the dining plan next month (I know that also means upgrading their park tickets). They are both good eaters at home (large quantities).

It would help me make my decision if I could see pictures of the portion sizes. I've seen the kids pb&j meal (definitely not big enough for them) and the kids' pizza meal (maybe big enough if I share some of my meal). Any pictures of the chicken nuggets or burgers? Any others appreciated too! Thanks!

I have never taken pictures of food but in my opinion the typical kids CS meals will not be enough food for them. They are not enough for dd7 and ds10 ate all adult CS meals last trip when he was 8 - and he finished those. The kids TS meals usually have a larger portion and usually satisfied both.

I'm thinking of doing this for my nephew too. The kid loved a good filet mignon and hates mac n cheese. lol. Anyone know if you can order off the kids menu if you paid for the adult DP at the counter service if he decided he needs chicken nuggets?

I have some pictures of our last trip.My youngest dd is 10 and we had free dining. She isn't a big eater,so a lot of the time we would save her adult TS credit and just pay oop for a kids meal. The rest of us "adults" would use her TS credits instead. We had more TS restaurant that way!

If your DD's are good eaters, then the kids meal may not be enough for them. Look at the resturants you plan to visit. If you're visiting the places that only serve burgers, nuggets, and meaty mac- Go to the adult plan. If you're eating in Signatures, with the app and dessert, they won't be hungry. My DD9 ate very well this summer on the kids meal BUT we were on the DxDP so she always got an app and dessert. In addition we had mostly signature meals for dinner, so her choices were better.
Also do you have buffets planned? (we don't usually eat these for dinner, but do for breakfast). Once again DD ate her fill and was satisified until we got a snack usually mid-afternoon. BTW DD is a little 9 year old with a love of food that most kids won't touch. She's a shrimp, fish, steak, sushi type of girl so a regular kids meal like meaty mac, chicken nuggets makes her mad if DH and I are eating "the good stuff".
In short, think about the following:
1) the types of food they enjoy
2) the resturants you're planning to eat at
3) the plan you're on
Depending on these factors, you may or may not want to upgrade. Good luck making your choice and Have fun!

Yes your nephew will be able to order kids qs meals if he has the adult plan. We upgraded my daughter for our September trip. She ordered mostly adult meals, since she wanted the better dessert ;) but did sometimes order the kids meal. We had no problems at all doing this. We only had qs dining and the only ts meal we had was Chef Mickey where we paid oop and we had her as a child there so I can't say if there is any problem doing this at ts meals.

OP, I would think if your child has any sort of appetite at all, the kids' meals may be small unless you shared some of an adult meals with them to make up the difference. Again, as I said about though, I can't speak to ts meals as Chef Mickey was our only one and as a buffet, it doesn't count for amount of food. My 8 year old daughter could always finish her kids meal and was sometimes still hungry. She did a pretty good job polishing off many of her adult meals, although not all of them, especially the huge sundae she had for dessert about 5 times from POP food court. I have no idea where that little girl puts the food she eats! :confused3 She isn't a big child at all.

My dd is 8 and is what I consider a good eater. I would never have considered upgrading her to an adult. Like someone else said, some of the traditional "kids meal" options were a bit on the skimpy side but overall it was fine. With the side items she was fine.

It depend on what they eat. I eat a lot of kid's meals for myself because the adult ones are way too much (and I'm not a shy eater).

Stay clear of the chicken nuggets. There are not very many plus it's not that good. The mac-n-cheese meals are awesome

Thanks, Shera. The pictures are very helpful!
We are dining at:
Planet Hollywood (dinner)
Crystal Palace (breakfast)
Tutto Italia (dinner)
50's Prime Time (lunch)
Kona (breakfast)

Last time we went down (2.5 years ago) we did buffet breakfasts most of the time, snacked during the day and counter service at our resort for dinner. That seemed to work out pretty well but their appetites have only grown since then! Guess I need to go look at those menus again.

I have lots of photos of kids meals, but none at the restaurants you have listed. I'm happy to post them though if you want to see them, just let me know.
I have photos of some of the kids meals from Via Napoli, Chef's de France, Le Cellier, TRex, Garden Grill, Beaches and Cream, Sci-Fi, Yachtmans, Rainforest Cafe, Dessert at Jiko, Kouzzina breakfast, CRT lunch dessert.

Aussie-
I think it would be very helpful for other people looking for pictures if you could share yours as I know I can't be the only one trying to make this decision.

Does anyone have more pictures of kids' counter service meals?

I agree this would be very helpful for everyone. My DS (4) isn't that big of an eater but does like "not normal" kids food and I prefer he stay away from processed things like chicken nuggests, etc.

I don't have many CS meal pictures of kids meals but do have some TS and Signature photos of kids meals. We paid OOP and used TIW, so DS often ordered off the adults menu, but here are some of the kids meals he had.
