Pictures From Your Part of the World

My part of the world is here! I need to go out in my neighborhood though and take pics of the Sandhills. :)

I am envious...

i definitely live in small town USA since even this is the next closest village which is larger than my own (they have a zip code and everything :lmao: )..the one and only movie theater....at least it's still not showing "Gone With The Wind" as a first run;)

Thanks, though there are other places here I'm envious of too. :)

That monorail wasn't too tough to get - it sat in place for like 8 minutes, I was able to walk all around it to get a good shot. :)

We were driving through eastern West Virginia yesterday and I had a few minutes to grab some quick shots of a climber's paradise: Seneca Rocks. These sharp, shaggy rocks rise almost 900 feet above the North Fork River and provide hundreds of climbing routes for every level. Many, many years ago I actually climbed with instructors on these rocks and loved it but it sure looked scary yesterday!

Since it was noon the light made it difficult to get good shots but I managed to snap a few I liked.

This is a saguaro, right? I've been told that we should see some on our way north out of Phoenix next month, any suggestions on a route to take to Sedona that would guarantee we would see some? Someone on another board suggested driving through Scottsdale and then up to Safeway(?) before getting back on 17.

Great pics as always!!

You will see saguaros throuhgout the valley...not sure what they ment by going "up to Safeway"??? If you are staying in Phoenix you can jump on the 101 and go to Scottsdale Rd. Get off and go north (left) then take that to the Carefree Highway and turn west (left). Then take that back to the I-17.......you will see some saguaros out there but you will see them along a lot of the roads in the valley too. It is illegal to damage or kill them with construction...they must stay in place or be professionally moved and replanted.

On your way to Sedona you show stop here...it is on the way.

My bad, I don't know where Safeway came from (should have looked at my notes first). It was suggested we drive through Cave Creek or Carefree.

Part of our drive up to Sedona was definitely going to include stopping at Montezuma Castle but I appreciate the suggestion!!:)

I debated whether to post these on the Non-Disney Vacation Spots thread or here but since we're lucky enough to live less than 2 hours from Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park I decided to post them here.

We camped at one of our favorite state parks about 15 minutes from Bar Harbor this weekend and took a ride into town and we were surprised to see a cruise ship in town already, there's supposed to be nearly 100 cruise ships in Bar Harbor this year (mostly in late summer and fall), up from about 75 last year.

Taken from Cadillac Mtn in Acadia National Park (1530 ft). It was quite hazy yesterday as you can tell from the pictures.

In my last post, I showed the bridge that connects our island to the mainland... well at the other end of the island, there is a ferry. Unfortunatly the boat was not in when I was there taking pictures, but here is the ramp to get on the boat! :)

Some fisherman's buildings somewhere between home and the ferry terminal, don't quite remember where... This picture was taken by my wife while I was driving... I'm surprised how well it turned out considering I was doing about 110km/h (65 mph).

For some reason all my pictures tonight came out really blurry/grainy. I used a tripod but I think it was no match for the gusting remains for Tropical Storm Barry. None of these photos have been edited, the cloud colors were so vivid, bright red/pink, these were taken after dusk around 9pm.

One I took with the exposure set at 12 seconds. Trying to capture the cloud colors.

Last weekend I took a drive to the Sunshine Coast for the day. It was a gorgeous autumn day temp around 80deg. This is unusual for this time of year - due to the severe drought our cooler weather hasn't arrived yet! Anyway, that's why everyone went to the beach - too good an opportunity to pass up!
