Pics Of the Contemporary Vacation Club!!!!

We own 160 at SSR, and will probably do a 50-point add-on at Cont. We usually go in the off season, and we just want enough to stay there two or three weeknights in a studio. That way we'd get the 11-month booking window. Then we could move to SSR or another resort for the remainder of the stay. I'd love to buy more at Cont. but I think it will be pretty expensive. We could always add more in the future

OK, what's a WEDway?

I own 200pts at SSR, which I'd keep for my "quiet spa/golf" vacations and add on 100pts at CRV in a HEARTBEAT. The pics give me the chills. I hope they announce it soon. I'm going to start a special account just for this because I want to be READY!

No moving walkways...we want a WEDway!

That's ridiculous... it will be stroller rentals at each end of the walkway, and a station to sell exclusive Contemporary Squeeze Breezes at $28.95 each

Hmmm...where do I start? What is now the Tomorrowland Transit Authority was originally the WEDway Peoplemover, an example of electric light transportation that Walter Elias Disney hoped to use throughout EPCOT (the acronym for the entire property, not the theme park) to transport people from the high density areas to the recreation and residential areas within the city in conjunction with the mass transportation monorail that would move people between the major centers of the property. WED was the original name of what has evolved into Imagineering and is made up from Walt's initials.

For a more detailed explanation, visit any of the sites dedicated to WDW's past such as Walt Dated World, Widen Your World, or the excellent Waltopia site that has gathered as much information about Project X (Disney World) as any I've seen in one place. While you are there, check out the original sketches and models for the original central hotel of Progessland and EPCOT that I believe inspired the drawings by Gwathmey Siegel & Associates. Another great source is the Walt Disney Treasures: Tomorrowland DVD that contains the film Walt made in 1966 (his last) to attract and inspire commercial interest in the project and was later shown to Florida's legislative bodies to help pass the necessary legislation allowing Walt Disney Productions to proceed with the construction of the posthumously-renamed Walt Disney World.

A WEDway connecting the new villas that I would love to see called Tempo Bay (Walt's intended name of the Contemporary Resort) Villas would be a small, but fitting gesture to Walt's original dream and intentions for EPCOT, not to mention being an amazingly unique feature/attraction for the resort. I'm sure cost would prohibit any such happening. But as I've written above, it's all still rumor, so why can't we dream?

Wonder what they are going to do about parking?

The parking lot is still there in the plan. It takes up all the area that is now one of the old wings. I just don't see how this could be ready unless construction is started now!

Looks like maybe there will be an overflow lot back where the tennis courts currently are (like the WL overflow lot). I mean think about it........there really isn't much parking at WL. I realize the Contemporary has the convention center, but, in the event of a large convention there probably would be offsite parking somewhere with shuttles. I really think more people are starting to use ME also now that the bugs have been ironed out. I know my family personally has ALWAYS rented a car, but, we're thinking about ME for our January trip since rentals are so high. I do have one booked (minivan at $400) but, if it doesn't come down, I'm seriously considering cancelling and using ME.

I'm looking at the design and thinking that the C shape should be smoothed out and flipped so that the broad backside curve follows along the shoreline .
This would give a whole lot of rooms direct lake views w/o looking in towards other rooms. The smoothed out curve would center on a courtyard BUT all the rooms would have wonderful viewlines toward the fireworks.

Over and out. :goodvibes

I thought it should be rotated clockwise a little so all the rooms along the back (it looks like more rooms are along the back?) look into MK. But either way a slight turn would be nice and give a "Bay lake or MK view" choice-not a CR view choice.

Regardless its great news and appreciated information, thanks.

It looks like a nice big lot directly in front of the building so very convenient.

I wish it were rotated too. We would have purchased and always asked for a view of Bay Lake but now that side will be mostly a view of neighbors.

Barnum, it will always be the peoplemover for us. :sunny:

But my guess is that it is just a walkway. A peoplemover would require staff wouldn't it?

Looks like www.screamscape.com has picked up the story now, too.

The word seems to be spreading. Hope we DO get an announcement around Oct 1st.

And, FYI, with Florida's 365 day a year construction ability, late 2008, provided demo started sometime this year, wouldn't be too far out of the question. We started demo in June of this year on a facility where I work, roughly 13 stories running the width of a city block, and the estimated completion date is early Spring of '09...and we're in Connecticut where exterior construction in the winter is pretty limited.

I have a question. Those that are excited about this and will buy into this, what will you do? Sell what you have and buy VCR or own at both resorts?

Or will you just add on lets say 50 pts? But how would you be able to book at VCR with only 50pts??

Here's my plan:
I currently own 200 points at BCV.
I'm going to add-on 90 points at VCR, and 90 points at VAKL.

By banking and borrowing, I'll have 270 VCR points every 3rd year, 270 VAKL every 3rd year, and 600 points at BCV every 3rd year.

Oh my - what in the world would I do with 600 BCV points?

Of course, this is providing that they both actually get built :teeth:

VCR doesn't look that small though, and could very well me the next anchor for DVC III. The thought of a WEDway between the two structures would be magnificently cool though, and would resolve the access to the Monorail stuff ... though it wouldn't be cool as an actual Monorail station.

AKL would be small ... but then what other smaller resorts could they put out? Other than perhaps the TreeHouse Villas area? maybe a Poly area?

Everyone thinks or assumes BWV is a small resort. It has almost 400 units! Definately a mid-major resort! Contempory would probably be about the same scale as BWV in number of units.

The 'people mover' thing in TomorrowLand that takes you around and through Space Mountain. ;)

I'm just praying we are ready to buy (financially) when they start selling these units!!!!!!!!! We were waiting until I'm done nursing school, and go back to work-- but now I don't know if we'll be able to wait that long.

They seem to have the headline on their main page, but don't have any details listed when you click the link ... they only talk about the ticket price increases. :confused3

Absolutely, besides the distance between the two buildings is too short to make a peoplemover actually feasible.

My nostalgia gets the best of me at times, but then again I'm one of the people that won't even look at the flying carpets in Adventureland because, imho, they just don't belong there.

You have to scroll down a bit. There's a stop sign at the DVC story.
