Just want to say thank you to all who answered my questions and gave me advice before my trip last month.
This photo (and the next post) were taken with Canon EOS 40D with a 50mm F1.8 lens, no tripod. The photos are far from perfect, but, for me the photos from this trip were a HUGE "WIN" for me!! So, thank you!!!

Very nice!

What mode were you shooting on?

I remember when I was just starting out. It's quite the journey and as long as you are patient and keep learning new things you are really going to like this new addiction you've fallen for. Take lots of pictures and ask lots of questions. Read your camera manual and really get to know what your camera settings can do. Keep posting your pictures here too!!

I wish you much success and I want you to have the confidence that you are off to a great start!

I agree with Marlton Mom, really nice stuff you've got there. Keep shooting. I live on these boards and the people are so nice and help out so much. Don't you just love that 50mm? I brought one along last August to try and get dark ride captures. A few worked, most didn't, but I learned a lot. I probably wouldn't have bought that lens unless the people here had recommended it. Now that I've seen what you did with it outside of the rides, I've got a few ideas for my Christmas trip. So, you see? You're already helping others! Thanks for your post :goodvibes

Wow! Thanks so much for the kind words; you've made my day!! :yay: I was so lucky that my girlfriend didn't mind all the picture taking. We both agreed it would have been a very different photo-taking trip if both of our husbands would have been along!! :rotfl:

I mostly tried Tv bumping the ISO to 1000 or 800. I also used the Av as well.

I noticed that the blues and greens of the castle were always clearer than when it was colored pink or yellow.

If you don't mind, I'll keep posting some of my favorites as the day goes on!

Great start!

If you wouldn't mind some constructive criticism, your #1 problem right now is shutter speed. Since you were using Tv mode this is a relatively easy fix. Using a 50mm lens on a crop camera you should, at minimum, use a 1/80th a second shutter speed (if handheld). There is no image stabilization on that lens so that unfortunately can't help you.

That might be why the castle was clearer because certain colors might have been brighter and helped get your shutter speed up. That's the reason some of your shots have a slightly blurred appearance even though the focus is on target.

Like I said good work and keep postin your results!

Good advice...I was thinking the same thing after looking at these photos.

To the OP...keep on shooting!

Thanks for sharing. My favorite was the balloon shot, you really captured a moment with that one.... very special.

Glad you like the 50 1.8

Very nice:thumbsup2 I'm with VVFF on the shutter speed. That 1 little tweak in your settings is going to make you go "WOW!" ;)

I tried to multi quote this to include VVFF's comment and it didn't work! Sorry!!
Absolutely, I DO NOT mind suggestions to become better!! That makes sense as to why one is sharper than the other! THANKS!!!!
