Picking up your own luggage ?

We are scheduled for ME service. I know we don't have to go to baggage claim but we are traveling with my elderly parents - who are not using the magical express service...so we have to go to baggage claim with them anyway.

Is it possible to claim our own bags and then proceed to the disney welcome center? Would they accept our luggage if we brought it ourselves ? Seems kind of silly that they wouldn't and we are going to be waiting for my parents luggage anyway...

so what are your thoughts ?

Okay, first - the age of ANY Guest notwithstanding, have you asked your parents why they trust the airlines (which misdirect tens of thousands of pieces of luggage a year) to transport their luggage up to several thousand miles but they don't trust Disney to transport it the last twenty or so?

At any rate, sure, you CAN pick up your own luggage. Don't put the yellow DME tags on ANYTHING. Go to baggage claim, get your luggage, bring it with you to check in for DME, then to the bus where the driver will load it under the bus. Remember to tip the driver (as well as anyone else who handles your bags).

I just reread your post - are your parents not staying onsite?

You can pick up your luggage just remember not to put the DME tags on. But to me that is the best part of DME not having to drag luggage through the airport.

no they are not staying on site. they are staying with relatives.

My main concern was with our tags. they were misprinted with the wrong resort on them. I called ME and they told me to cross off the wrong resort and it should be okay. I was just a little leary of getting my luggage transported to the correct resort. And, since we were going to be in baggage claim anyway I just thought we could grab our own luggage for peace of mind...

but, I guess I wasn't clear if there was someone from Disney picking up luggage at baggage claim or if there was something going on "behind the back door" so to speak and it was picked up other than the usual baggage claim area...???make sense???? or am I just rambling.

If you put the yellow tags on your luggage it should NEVER get to the baggage claim. It gets pulled behind the scenes. So make sure you decide before you get to the airport....

Yes. All DME-tagged luggage is pulled before any luggage is placed on the carousels. So as long as you don't attach the tags you'll get, your bags WILL be available at baggage claim. Throw them away BUT don't toss everything. Your DME vouchers will be in the packet/booklet that also contains your yellow tags. You will need the vouchers to use DME (okay, not absolutely, but it'll make your experience a whole lot easier :))
