It was $17 or $18 (not including tax). My niece just did it last weekend before we headed home.. A $50 gift card would get you a pearl and a moderate setting. My DW got the same carriage setting from etsy (I think that's the name of it) for a significantly lower price than from disney. We compared hers to the ones they had on our most recent trip and it was identical.
I was there Friday. The cost of the mukigai pearl is $16.90 with $1.10 tax. The total was $18. I had the receipt next to my chair! Good luck with your pearl!
I second the idea of buying a pearly cage on etsy before the trip. I bought a mickey head pearl cage (which I didn't see available at the Japan pavilion) and then paid to pick a pearl and placed it in the cage myself. It is my favorite necklace. The cage was really cheap on etsy too.
I'm thinking of doing this with my 4 DGDs in Sept. The cages I see at Epcot say sterling silver and cost a ton, the ones on Etsy or Ebay cost a few dollars but I think they are silver plated?? Would they hold up as well? I'm all for saving money, but does "penny wise, pound foolish " apply?
My mom did this in Hawaii when she was in her 20's. Her Pearl was lost a long time ago. I am going to try and get her one for Christmas this year. Do they ever have Black ones?
Thanks, I just went on and purchased 4 cages for the girls for when we go in June. I think all the girls, even the teens, will enjoy doing this and if I already have the necklaces ready then we at halfway there.
I bought my pearl cages on Etsy for like...$5 each. They had all different types. Disney ones, animal ones, Harry Potter ones. You can order some with or without the chain. I bought a chain at a craft store for like..$3. So I spent $8 altogether for my pearl necklace setting vs the $40 or whatever it would be for a different option at Disney.
But I also have one from Disney. It's just an easier way to save a little bit of money. I know they also sell DIY pearl kits on Etsy, too! They send the oysters (don't eat them) and you can take out the pearl yourself and set it in the cage. They also sell them on Amazon, I think.
