I just received a call from Phyllis. Bob is out of surgery, and the surgery went well - which is a good thing. However, he is experiencing extreme pain on the opposite side of the chest from where the surgery was performed. They have a call into the doctor and surgical team to find out what is going on.

Needless to say, Phyllis is very frightened and she's a tad angry because no one came out to tell her when Bob's surgery was over. I'm not sure how she found out, but it wasn't from the doctor or any member of the surgical team. She should have been called into recovery after Bob was finished, but they never called her.

She said that they were able to get the stomach back into it's proper place, but there was a lot of debris from a previous surgery that needed to be cleaned out. Apparantly, there were adhesions & the mesh that was used in the 1st surgery had separated & spread out. So that had to be cleaned up in addition to the hernia being repaired and the stomach put back in to place.

At any rate, please, please, please, PRAY for Bob that he does not need any more surgery and PRAY PEACE around Phyllis. She's trying to be tough, but I could tell from her voice that she is very scared.

Thanks everyone!

You got it! Anything for Phyllis and Bob!!

Tell her she has our prayers.
All of this is unfortunate for Bob and Phyllis, I hope this doesn't sound bad,but it sounds like its a good thing that they had to operate, sounds like he had a mess going on there, they cleaned it up and thats a good thing.
I can totally understand her being scared, must be a lotta pain with that operation,,surely things will look up from here.
Keep the faith Phyllis.

Tell Phyllis I said I am pulling for them. And everything is gonna be fine, Pete commanded it!

Thoughts and prayers for Bob and Phyllis! Let us know if you hear anything else.

Saw this and figured I post the latest update here. Thanks Deb...you are right. They seem to have a handle on his pain. Seems there were some misscommunications between the recovery room and the surgeons. I actually did hear from the surgeons when he was through with the operation. That was at 12:50 pm. Only..they never called us to see him in recovery until 3:00.
His doctors had indicated we would be able to see him in about 30 to 40 minutes. Finally the waiting room volunteers took pity on us..and said, "we're takin' you in..". Went in with a group of visitors for other patients. In recovery, they said it was an error that they overlooked our name. Okay...not thrilled, but went to see my husband. Who was in tremendous pain. Not where the site of the insesion was..but the other side of his chest. My Bob..is NOT a complainer..but he could hardly speak. They new he was in pain, and were somewhat confused as to why it would be where it was. I told them what his surgeon told us. That..his stomach was also on that side of his chest cavity..and their was extensive removal of mess and other substances used during the previous laproscopic surgery. The anetesiologist(sorry sp?) managing his pain was not aware of this. Of course they put in a call to the surgeons. At the same time one of the nurses told me to "come back at 7:30 tonight". I DON"T THINK SO. I want to speak to his surgeon. She asked me then to come back in forty five minutes..they were going to get a chest X-ray. Surgeon showed up..and told me, that the anestesiologist is now aware of the extensive work to the opposite side of chest cavity, so his pain is now being managed with both an epidural and medication. I can report that as of
4:45, he was MUCH more comfortable. I was not upset so much from his being in pain..but that the recovery staff didn't seem to have a handle on it.
When I returned to the recovery, there were apologies. I feel better that he is comfortable now. As Debbie said ..work was extensive..and I will post more when after I see him tonight. THANK YOU my dis friends...your prayers are coming through loud and clear.

That is great news Phyllis!! It can be frustrating that the left hand never seems to know what the right hand is doing!!!!

I have been thinking about you and praying for your husband. Glad to hear he is more comfortable now.

Good grief Phyllis - you guys have been through the wringer. Glad Bob's felling better. How are YOU doing?

I'm glad the surgery is over and they have the pain controlled, now it's onward to recovery. :thumbsup2 You will still be in my thoughts and prayers during this period.

Maybe you can get a little sleep tonght, Phyllis. Time for a breather.
