Photoshop Elements

Ok, think I got the colors ok and the black outline ok. I found the drop shadow button but it's not letting me apply it. Do I have to click on something first? Also, now this layer of text is covering up another layer that I have so I was hoping to move it down. How should I do that without messing up my lovely letters? Also, I now have a checkerboard pattern after I have deselected.

The checkerboard indicates a transparency. the Indy headline should be on its own layer and that checkerboard is only going to be seen in the layers pallet because the layers under that will show through the transparency.

Does your Indy layer have a whit background?

I think I clicked and changed the background/foreground on that layer thinking it was the box to click for the colors of the font. I don't know if that's it or not. So, I don't know if I have a white background. Oh, I did do the layer with the old brown paper though but that should be another layer. I'm really confusing myself!

I thought it might be helpful if you could see my screen.
this is what your layers pallette should look like. (I should have thought of this last night) DHA:rotfl2:

I'm going to lose it now. I went out and took the pix to insert and was moving it around. The final little bit. Then I hit something and all the layers messed up and everything was gone!!! Now I'm trying to start from scratch, which should be easy since I've got about 1 day of my life I'll never get back.

Now since I have the pix already it is going in as soon as I select the frame and it is the wrong size, totally cutting off his head!:confused3

I may need to take a break and get the kids to bed----and grab another excedrin!

YEAH!!!! Just finished the second version! Of course, now I'm thinking of tweaking the font. The capital I's on the adventure font look more like l's than the Indy I's so we'll see if I do it again! The best part is that Patrick LOVES it! Thank you, thank you, thank you:worship: I will try to figure out how to post it so you can see it.

Now, I've got 28 more days to decide if I want to buy this program or not:rotfl:

I'm glad you got it. I was prepared to post a better explination if you needed it, this time with screen shots, oh well.:confused3

Thoughts on Elements
PSE is a great program. You will have to buy a book for it though. I use the "Missing Manual" by Barbara Brundage. The best thing to do though is to play around with it. Learn to use it without using any button with AUTO in front of the name. To get great results insted of OK thats good enough results learning to add effects and fix photos manualy is the way to go. The program is powerful if you learn how to use it. If you just want to add effects and fix photos with one click there are cheaper programs out there that will do that. Not the Ellements can't do it, it is just that you will be paying for features you will never use.

to post your work head over to photobucket. After you upload your picture there will be 4 lines of code under your photo. All you do is click the one that says IMG and it will automaticly copy the code to your clipboard. Then you just paste it in your post. :thumbsup2

Adobe fixed their website so no trials of PE can be downloaded
until July 1. Does this indicate a PE7 might be released soon?

TIA!

Given that I have recently bought PE6, I'd say that's highly likely :D

I would say, it is any time now..in Canada when Adobe is ready to release the new version Futureshop, BestBuy, Office Depot/Staples start dscounting the bundle ( Photo and Prem elements) heavily and sure enough last weekend the bundle was on sale for almost half price...I got "suckered" into that once , so this time I will wait until I get the update offer through the mail from Adobe then take hte plunge..as soon as I do I get an email I will post...

Yes, I do use Lightroom , but my DW likes Elements for the easy catalogue and instant fixes...and it is a lot simpler then either full Photo or Lightroom

It wouldn't surprise me. I've been trying to get a copy of 6 here in the UK and all the major online retailers have had no stock for about a month. And Amazon Uk is now not even listing it as out of stock - just one of thoseblank entries they do on discontinued lines.

I've decided to wait a couple of months and see if PE7 is released.

Safetymom,

Why did you go from 6 to 5? How do you use PSE? I'd like your input!

TIA!

I taught scrapbooking classes using PSE. The interface in 6 was very dark. It was hard to see the menus. Also the way you could drag something onto a project was changed in 6. They had you do it totally backwards.

I got lots of complaints from people familiar with both versions. I found 5 just worked better on my laptop than 6.

Nothing major. Hopefully they fixed the problems from 6.

Glad I havent bought it yet.
I saw best buy has been having it on sale quite often.

I have been mainly using Canons Digital Pro Professional for processing my raw files and for the most part it works great. Would still like another photo editing program. I am glad I waited.

I was ready to get the 30D when there were rumors about the 40D. Glad I waited on that one too! :thumbsup2

I want to use PSE for scrapbooking, too. I have no experience with "5",
so I suppose I wouldn't see a difference between "5" and "6." I saw a demonstration of "6" at a scrapbooking convention in Arlington TX
last weekend. Now I'm leaning towards "6" - but will see if "7" comes out in July.

Does anyone use a Wacom tablet for the details in your work?
Office Depot (online only) has a tablet with PSE 5 and other software in a bundle for $99.
It sure is tempting, but perhaps I should wait til after July 1.
Thoughts?

Ok, so I don't feel like doing any housework today and I decided to create a slidehow of photos from our recent Virginia vacation (music, transitions, the whole bit). I have Elements 4. I don't know if this is relevant to my problem, but I do NOT use the Elements organizer to download and organize my photos; I use the software that came with my Canon camera (Zoom Browser).

I opened a new slideshow, had no problem adding the 100+ photos. I added the photos in pretty much the order I wanted them, but they didn't show up that way in the bin at the bottom of the screen. However, when I try to use the "easy" way to reorder the photos (the box on the lower right with the drop-down options), the only one that works is "random". I tried using "folder location", but that put the photos in reverse order (my photos are stored in My Pictures in dated folders (i.e., 2008_06_16, 2008_06_17, etc.). "Date (Newest First)" and "Date (Oldest First)" didn't reorder the photos at all; nothing happened. I tried it with just one slide selected and also with "select all slides" and nada. :confused3

Yes, I know I can go into the "Quick Reorder" screen where there are thumbnails of all the photos and manually move them where I want them, but I was trying to save myself some work - I basically have to move photo #150 and make it #1, then move #149 to #2, etc. Pain in the you-know-what!

What am I doing wrong? Or is there something wrong with my program when only 2 of the 5 reorder options work? Or is this God's way of telling me to get off my butt and clean?:rotfl2:

Just wanted to add.....I also saved my project, totally closed out of Elements, went back in and it still wouldn't work.
