Photoshop Elements

something cartoony or like drawing?

Our zoo needs to update it's maps and I was thinking that if I could do that (without actually having to draw the map), I could put small portraits of the animals where their exhibits are on the map. But I really need a base showing our paths and thought google earth might help.

Anyone have any ideas how to do that in Photoshop Elements?

I think I'm going to order Photoshop Elements 6. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good book to go with it? One that's not too hard to understand but not just the easy stuff either?

TIA

This is a second vote for Scott Kelby's book. I'm using it now with PSE6 and it's wonderful.

Scott is the man. :thumbsup2 He even has a itunes video podcast, though most of it is geared towards the full version of photoshop :happytv:

Thanks, everyone! I placed my order for PSE and Scott's book. (plus a few extra items) If anyone is interested, PSE 6 is on sale at Amazon with a $20 rebate - final cost $50.

Oh course, PSE 7 is coming out - I received PSE 6 for my birthday & still have it in the box! :lmao:

Any idea what the new changes will be? I didn't like version 6. I took it off and went back to 5.

No sorry, didn't look that closely at the info as i only got PSE6 about 2 months ago (thank goodness i got it cheap else i'd have been really annoyed instead of mildly cheesed off)

Hi everyone! I am currently using an ancient version of Adobe PhotoDeluxe Home 3.0 to do simple things like cropping my photos and adjusting color/brightness/etc. I picked up a copy of PhotoImpactPro a couple years ago, but I found it difficult for cropping to "standard" photo sizes (4x6, etc) so I kept on using my old PhotoDeluxe. Well ... I moved to Vista a few months ago and PhotoDeluxe is not a happy program. It complains, but I can still use it ... however ... I think it's time for a new photo editing program.

I see that Photoshop Elements 7 will be coming out in October. Should I hold out for 7 or would 6 be OK? If I pick up 6 I thought I would wait until 7 is released and then pick up 6 when places are clearancing them out. Amazon currently has PSE 6 for $60 ($80 with a $20 rebate) and PSE 7 pre-order is $75 ($95 with a $20 rebate).

I guess I am also somewhat open to another program for editing, but I really hated PhotoImpact. BTW, is it easy to crop in PSE? In PD all I had to do is select the size I want the photo to be (4x6 for instance) and then a 4x6 box would appear over my photo that I could make bigger or smaller or move around the photo to crop exactly what I wanted.

I know that many of you are lightyears ahead of me, but I appreciate any help you can offer.

I use Corels PAint Shop Pro Photo X2. it is a great program, and cropping is very easy..

you can download a 30 day free trial to see if you like it , before buying it..

Thanks :). I might go ahead and download it and try it, but it's the same price as PSE.

usually adobe has a free download as well for elements. i have pse5 and don't use it as much as i did before i got lightroom but use it some. for only $15 i would probably get the 7 and use the demo till it comes out. to crop at least in 5 you can set the dimensions/resolution then use the crop box over the photo to pick what you want to leave in

I have PSE6. I upgraded from version 4.0 and like it very much. I haven't heard that the upgrade from 6 to 7 will be very significant, so I imagine you would be fine with either program. I do recommend "The Missing Manual." It full of lots of information to help with the learning curve.

Ok, I hope someone can help me on this.

I am needing to clone stamp a picture. In the past I have always hit alt+ctrl to provide a source. Then I thought I always hit the left mouse key to clone over the area I needed clone.

But for some reason, when I hit alt+ctrl and then the mouse key I keep getting "Could not use clone stamp tool because the area to clone had not been defined".

What am I doing wrong?:confused3

Actually, if I remember correctly, (I'm not at my home computer right now) all you have to do is hold down alt, not Ctrl+Alt, and it should let you choose your source area. Let me know if that does it! :thumbsup2

Got it! Thanks! It read Alt+click and I was reading it as Alt+ctrl.

Thank you so much!!
