The Brown Pelicans are the smallest in the pelican family. Like a lot of birds in this part of the world, they were driven to near extinction in the 70’s from the use of DDT and Dieldrin. I was happy to see them as this species is once again thriving in their native environment.

We came across a flock of Canada Geese.

They were sure enjoying feeding on the green grass!

Birds of winter, feeding

The long-billed curlew is also known as the Candlestick bird. Did you know that Candlestick Park was named after them? These birds were once on the brink of extinction in the 1800’s. They migrate to NorCal in the winter.

Thanks, I used my Canon 180mm macro lens for those shots. I used a black pan that I put in the frezzer so it wasn't warm and melt the snow flakes when I brought it outside. I only wish it was larger flakes, the snow was very fine and small.

Hawk - of the Swainson's Hawk variety. I was at Coyote Point (CuriOdyssey) and one of the rangers kindly took me in to the back area to get this shot.

Eh? Canadian Culture related My luck at finding hunt items held all through the trip. This was given to my DS from a Canadian work colleague of my DH's. Totally unexpected; and I couldn't stop laughing when he came back with it.

Candy Jar I found this in an antique shop in Solvang, and forgot to post it. Can anyone make out that the candy jar has a price tag of $165?

Presidential related These - well - they just jump out at me!

And there is one more presidential related that I got at Fisherman's Wharf. Still need to get to loading that day up for here any my TR!
