Photo sharing: Sony Alpha

It was really hard finding this thread, so I will add some photos to bump it up... Taken w/ Alpha 100 and 70-210

Look at the size of the hawk's talons.

Wow! How were you able to get this pic. I had a hawk taunting me all summer long. He would bring his "lunch" to our front yard and allow me to run in and out of the house getting dogs in etc. until I showed up with a camera. I'd peek around the corner, raise the camera and he'd be gone!:headache: This happened four times - I think he was having a good laugh at my expense.

I'm a little late in posting. I had just picked up the A300 a couple weeks before our trip in August so most of my pics were just on automatic but thought I'd share.

Nice pics eleventhletter - I really like this one! I'll be there in two weeks - can't wait and I hope to get some nice shots of the christmas decor and hopefully the Christmas wishes fireworks!

Hi, These were taken in October with my a350

Those are stunning - I love the colors!!

Good timing for this next series, looks like! I had a great backyard visit a few days ago and went in to grab my A300 and take a few shots of him, which I thought I'd share here. Funny then that someone else with an Alpha recently posted a similar visitor! Anyway, my backyard guest was a red-shouldered hawk who landed in a tall tree in my yard, and sat watching the goings-on from his high perch. I managed a few decent shots of him before he flew off - all at 500mm with my Tamron 200-500 lens:

Here first from a bit farther away...

Then as I decided to move about 50 feet closer, he swung his head around and gave me the stare to see what I was up to with that big black lens pointing his way...

Then he turned back, and gave me a nice, perfect sunlight portrait...

Pretty cool to see stuff like that in a backyard. I've photographed these hawks before at a few local wetlands areas or in the Everglades, but this was the first time one sat still long enough in my backyard to let me photograph him.

Hi everyone! I just found this thread and I love all the pics.. AND the practical Sony advice:goodvibes

I have an Alpha-100 that I bought a little over a year ago. My pics aren't no where near as good as you guys, but I thought I'd toss a few of my faves up anyway:goodvibes

I am so excited to see these pictures. DH has bought me the Sony alpha 300 for Christmas along with the 75-300mm extra lens. I can't wait to get it tomorrow and start playing.:cool1:

I thought that I'd post some of my pictures. I have an Alpha 300. I'd had it about a week before this trip in August.

I've had my A700 setup for just about 6 months now, and I'm still extremely happy with it. I still haven't processed all of my Sept WDW trip photos (I have a good excuse!) but I've still been contributing to the Picture of the Day thread, processing one at a time as I pick them to share. Here are the last 15 or so that I have posted...

Wow your pictures are amazing!!
I only wish i had a third of your talent!
Here's a recent from my a350

I was debating about getting a Sony, but after seeing these photos- my mind is made up!
Were you using the kit lenses? If not which?
Is there a big difference between the A300 and A350 other than the megapixels? Is it worth spending the extra money?

I bought my Alpha 300 in November but didn't really use it right away. I took my DGD and DGS to a large Christmas display in the Reading PA area and got this shot of my DGD. It's not a great shot as I am still learning how to use the camera but I loved how she was reflected in the window.

Subbing

I got a Sony 350 last July. I shot pics with it on our Sept. trip to the world. I actually got some of the animals on the safari ride.:rotfl2: When I was using my p&s I never was able to get any of them.

I still don't know how to do much more than AUTO.:confused3 I'm fixing to make two trips to the world in Feb and could use any tips on shooting in low light and fireworks. I have a Tamron AF 18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 XR Di II LD Aspherical (IF) Macro lens. That is the only lens I own. When we went in Sept I had trouble shooting in low light, ie: Playhouse Disney, Night time parade at MK. It didn't seem to be reading enough light in order to auto focus.

TIA for any help anyone can give me.

The differences are:
megapixels: 14.3 (A350) vs 10.2 (A300)
speed for continuous shots 2 (A350) vs 3 (A300)
battery life is slightly longer for the A300 vs A350
price A350 is about ~$100 more expensive than the A300

I chose the A300 because of the fast shutter speed. I've enjoyed the action shots that I taken that tell a great story. I honestly think that you'd be happy with either camera. I love my alpha and I am so glad that I bought it.

By the way, for my pictures, I just used the standard zoom lens that came with the camera. My husband has many old Minolta slr lens that also work on this camera although they are much heavier lens.

Sorry, I wasn't very clear. The A350 can take 2 shots/second. The A300 can take 3 shots/second.

There is actually a sticky on the photography board with a lot of good ideas on how to get great pictures of fireworks.

I just got the Sony A300 today, I can't wait to try it out! I think I need someone to teach me how to take good pics like what you guys have posted..:rotfl2:
