An old cannonball that was shot and became lodged in this tree

Thank you!! I used my 18 - 70mm for those shots.

Wow! Was that handheld or tripod? I ask because I know the 18-70 doesn't have VR, and I don't think I could hand hold a shot in those lighting conditions. (My hands are not the steadiest due to taking meds for my asthma.) I assume it was rather dark in there being a cathedral and all...

It's funny you asked that question. You see I ordered a new tripod before our trip but due to it being on sale it was out of stock and back ordered. I was told it would arrive before our trip which it did not. With that said all the shots on the Quebec trip where then handheld. The lighting was pretty bad in there but I felt good about the results. Could have been much sharper with a tripod though.

Here's the exif on both shots.

1st one

Camera Model: NIKON D80

Focal Length: 18.0mm (35mm equivalent: 27mm...
Exposure Time: 0.077 s (1/13)
Aperture: f/3.5
ISO Equiv.: 800
Whitebalance: Auto
Metering Mode: matrix
Exposure: aperture priority (semi-auto)

2nd one

I couple other shots from there that I will post later.

Ok Roger, what lens and settings on this one. The clarity is awesome!!

Thanks Dave. It was my Sig 30 f/1.4 1/250 f/1.8 ISO 200. I had it on between dark rides. I forget about it for shooting at portraits. It is really clear once you get to f/2 or so.

Ed that Sigma really loves you- Excellent shots all- I finally got around to processing more from when I met Kyle (Handicap 18) back in June

I've been practicing natural light, focus and exposing to the right. None of which is easy on three year olds, lol, they do not pose, just cheese. I was happy with this one, I think...

Oy, this reminds me how much I hate running! Nice capture!

I hate running and that's the toughest part about being a cross-country mom. If I want to get the shot, I have to run too!! They are almost to the finish line here...my son is the 2nd boy...once his teammate realized how close Kevin was, he went into a sprint. Kevin said...wait 'til next week!
