We've been to WDW 10 times in the last six years, from a one day park hopper visit to an eight day park hopper visit -- and we've used Photo Pass every time. The key is to either sign up in advance (check the website) or at the very least, get a card from the first photo pass photographer you encounter as you enter your first park on your first day -- then have them take photos often.

One little known fact is that if you ask them to take a photo with your camera, they will take ONE, per policy. (If something goes obviously wrong, they will retake.) But this has provided us with many family photos that we would otherwise have never had on our vacations. And oh by the way, ANY Disney cast member will do this, too, under most circumstances. No, Mickey won't be able to help you out, but that friendly street sweeper might take the best family photo of your trip.

Now on to what products you might purchase from Photo Pass. Well, we've always purchased something. On our first big trip, I went a little crazy and got the video, many prints, etc. But by the third trip I had discovered THE bargain -- the calendar. You can select from their stock (professional staged photos with characters, empty parks, etc.) photos plus all of the photos of your family. And you can "mix" pages from different themes. Hint: check every month for every theme for some fun combos. Even though I have two boys, I've found that the Little Mermaid page from princesses works well with photos from splash fountains and pools.

Given that I always choose at least two photos per page and sometimes up to four, I get 25-40 photos for less than $30 delivered. Oh, and typically there is at least one week during your pre-expiration period where the calendar goes on sale.

But you may prefer a T-shirt, or holiday ornaments, etc. They have a wide variety of options.

The "best" photo pass photos I've found are the creative ones - like in front of the Crystal Palace where they take photos with an actual frame you hold in your hands and the castle in the background. And I've twice had the photographer over near the rose garden (go toward the castle from the main entrance and take the last right toward the teacups ride and look to your left when you pass the Minnie/Mickey topiaries) capture fireworks from the castle stage show in our castle background photo. They also have several staged shots where they add a character based upon your pose.

If you don't like the photos, there is no obligation to buy anything.
