I leave for my cruise in a week and a half (!!) and I want to bring photo mats to be signed by charcaters- one signed by princesses and the other signed by Mickey and friends. I'm going to get 11x14 mats, but do you think I should get a 5x7 photo cut out, or would 8x 10 be big enough? If I was more artistic I woule write in the name and date of the cruise, but I would probably ruin it so I'll just stick to signatures.

If you have a Hobby Lobby near you, look for a "Museum Mat.". It's 11x14, I believe, with a 5x7 cutout not in the dead-center of the frame, but centered in the upper two-thirds, so there is room for signatures around the photo but also much more room under the photo as well. Perhaps you could google search for one and find something similar at a local craft store chain.

Bronxgirl, if you are going to print one of your own photos, any size opening would be fine; it's just whichever you prefer. But if you think you'd want to purchase a DCL photo from Shutters, have it cut to hold either an 8x10 or a 6x8. I knew going in when I did mine that I would probably want to use a Shutters photo, so I had 6x8 mattes cut and signed.

Also, have them note on the paper they fill out for you to leave an inch or so around the outsize edge with NO signature going into that space, otherwise, the signature may be cut off by the frame you choose to display matted picture.

HTHs! :thumbsup2

We used an 11x14 with an 8x10 cut out because we knew we wanted to use a pic from Shutters. Instead of writing the date I used a scrapbook decal that said Disney cruise. I also put on a postit that said which side was up so they knew how to hold the mat. Also put in a Variety of colors. Both our mats came out so cute. You'll be so happy you did it.

This is the photo mat we used, a 11x14 with an 8x10 opening. The photo purchased from Shutters includes the ship name and date on the photo.

I'm new to this when do you give the matts to be signed?, where?, when do you get it back?, any particular ink pen?

You turn them in at Guest Services, usually in a plastic bag, with markers included. You will fill out a slip indicating which characters you want (Princesses, classic characters, all). It will be returned to you in your room at the end of the cruise. I think most people use Sharpies.

Wow! I had no idea you could do this!! Does it cost extra?

we got of the Magic in mid AUgust- there were only 5 princess that signed our matt and pillowcases- so I'm not sure how that would look spacing wise with a whole matt and 5 signatures- just a thought?

ETA-there is no charge.

I would say that if you are having two separate mats and only having 5-6 characters sign each one, get mats with an 8x10 opening so there is not tons of space in between the signatures. The characters will fill up an 11x14 mat with a 5x7 opening with 15-20 signatures (which is what we got when we asked for signatures from any and every character).

I would get 11x14 mat with 8x10 opening. Also get a padded envople to put the mat in your suitcase before and after you leave.I would get 11x14 cause the characters write there name in big letters.I brought 11x14 and had 13 signtures had room for one more signture

No cost. Customary is to give a bag of candy with them. They do have a limit of two items to be signed per stateroom, but wonder if they enforce it.

We're you able to fit the mat into a large ziplock bag or did you just bring the padded envelope to guest services? Do they care what type of bag you bring your items in? I've read that most people just put things in a ziplock with pens and some candy; however, I'm not sure if a couple photo mats will fit in a ziplock?

Thanks!!

Put the mat in a xxlg ziplock bag with markers and candy and the padded envelope to put in the suitcase before and after you leave the cruise so the matting won't get bent.My husbands suitcase had a zipper at the bottom of the suitcase and I put the matting in the padded envolpe and closed the zipper than put his clothes on top and the matting didnt get bent.I put tape around the edge of the matting to make sure the charcaters don't signed

You sould be able to put 2 mats in XXLG ziplock bag with some markers and some small bags of candy.I put 2 small bags of lifesavers and some packs of gum.Make sure you put some tape around the edge of the matting so the charcters wont go over the edge and not have them show up.Make sure you put your name and stateroom number on the ziplock bag and the back of the matting that the charcters wont sign

Lucky!! I had the same size (11x14 with 5x7) mat, asked for as many as possible, and got 5-6 signatures with big gaps of space.

my wife did a 16X20 mat that had an opening for a 11X14 photo. it was a black mat they we had them sign in silver sharpie. we had a photo we had done from shutters enlarged to 11x14 size and it looks fine. the mat turned out awesome with the silver writing. i took it to guest services the first day, and our stateroom host took it to our room sunday night when he went to turn down the bed. we got them a 5lb bag of childss play mix. they seemed to like that moraccording to the lady at guest services. we also supplied the sharpies. we sent two of them just in case one didnt work or got lost.

Thank you for all of the great information!
Maybe I will bring them some candy from here in Japan!
