PHM15: A Frozen Cupcake Celebration & Carnage as No Cupcake is Left Behind

10.JPG

And Naan bread service with red pepper hummus and cucumber raita to begin my food adventure that I had been looking forward for months in preparation for the trip, along with a sampling of Watermelon, Cucumber and fennel salad.

10a.jpg

Sanaa was not a place that I knew my family would enjoy, so this was my chance to step outside of the box a little with food. Cammy and I had already decided that we were going to split a meal (gotta save room for those cupcakes and cocktails later on)…

11.JPG

So we split butter chicken and beef short ribs with rice. Oh my gosh, one of the yummiest things I have eaten EVER! I would have drowned myself in the butter chicken sauce! The meal was not a disappointment, only the service. Apparently our waiter knew that we was charging the gratuity to us anyway, so he felt the need not to give us any kind of decent service…in fact he disappeared entirely after we asked for our bill. Did this guy not know that we were on a schedule? Waiting we struck up a conversation with a family next to us who wanted to know all about running at Disney. We chatted with them for a good 20 minutes and still we had no waiter and no bills. Edie finally took charge and went looking for him and practically drug him back to our table by the ear…don’t mess with Edie! Finally paid out we made our way onto the savannah to admire the zebras while others took a bathroom break.

12.JPG

We made our way back to shuttle van, only to see if pull away and the next one not arriving for 20 minutes. The CM at the door mentioned that it was just a short walk to Jambo house, I looked at him and the words “H E Double Hockey Sticks NO” flew out of my mouth without any filter, did I really look like I wanted to walk…see these medals…I am done with walking.

13.JPG

Shocked at my mouth, I apologized to him, made him hold the flats and waited for the shuttle with Buffy while the others went to the bus stop to catch a bus to MK and then the POLY for the start of our Cupcake Crawl, which we were quickly becoming very late too!

Looks like a great time! I've always wanted to try Sanaa but my family isn't into African foods much so we've stayed away from it. I wouldn't want to walk after running either so I don't blame you.

So proud of you on your hilly half last weekend! Glad to hear the volunteers were awesome & supporting everyone.

You know I thought I would be really sore from it...but not so much! Thanks friend...it was hard to be the caboose!

Fantastic! Great job! And I love that wine glass - I didn't see that in February and wish I had!!

Thank you...this was my first time using it...I almost did not buy it but I am glad I did!

I love all of the race pictures!

Having never done a long race, I can't even imagine how frustrating it must be when things don't go as planned and you hit rough patches in the race. But I'm very impressed that you kept going and finished the race. Congrats!

And congrats on finishing the snowy half last weekend!

I think that once you have done a half you know that you can complete another one...there was really no doubt that I would not complete it...just not the way that I wanted to. Next time...

Great race photos! Looks like you guys had a fantastic time! Things may not always go as planned but as long as you had a good time that's all that matters. I can't wait for January when I run my first half. Congrats on your fifth!

You are so right...the good times are what matters and I did have a few of those...your first half will be one that stays with you! I am super excited for you.

Really what I had was more Indian inspired than African and not very spicey at all. I loved it...I almost think my family would too now that I know pretty much what to expect. Certainly give it a try and ask the CM for suggestions...

My feet hurt so bad after the half...I should have kept my ankle compression sleeves on...the CM was great...after he got over the initial shock of what I said he had a great time teasing me!

You handled the Half recap well! I know you were stressed. Good job. And I always enjoy good eyeball selfies of you!

Karen and I had bad service at Saana too- maybe it's a requirement to be wait staff there? :)

The meal at Sanaa looks great, but ... looking at the cocktail count, Amy seems to have a lot of catching up to do.

Sanaa...glad you enjoyed it. I am sad I didn't get to try it, but I am more sad about Narcoossee's. I know there will be lots of yummy food to be had come next Nov when the cupcakes take over W&D!

Can't wait to see your crawl!

I'm glad your food was so great post half!

I am ashamed of my crawl pictures...ugh.

I could not believe the service we had...thank goodness we had attack dog Edie with us!

I am taking selfies now with the 1 eyeball all the time...channeling my Amy T!

In Amy's defense she started WAY LATE TO THE PARTY!

I already have Narcoossee's planned as are pre race meal for W&D on Friday night...good protein the day before a night race is how I roll!

Where did all the Cupcakes Go?

Buffy and I finally made our way back to Jambo house and slowly made our way to our rooms so I could find my phone and she could check out. I swear that walk to the bus stop was the longest, but not as long as the wait once again for a bus to the Magic Kingdom. As we waited we received a text that the monorail was down due to a medical emergency from Amy and they were trying to get a boat to the POLY which was not looking good because the lines were so long. I really don’t remember how Buffy and I got to the POLY but I know we did and found the Tweedles waiting in the lobby. Both Buffy and I were confused because the rest of our group was apparently still waiting to get to the POLY on the other side of the lake…we stood around for probably a good 15 minutes talking until finally we got a text that the rest of the cupcakes were in Captain Hooks and apparently cleaning out the refrigerator cases of all cupcakes. Seriously? Yep, that is where we found them all…munching away without us. Of course we had to catch up…and of course I have no pictures other than the yummy cupcake that I had… (Hopefully Tweedle Bossy will have some)!

1.JPG
The Minnie Mousse! Certainly one of my favorites of the entire trip!!!! The POLY if I remember correctly had a great selection of cupcakes including this tiramisu…

2.JPG
Which I wish I would have gotten one of those too! After we fulfilled our need for sugar it was time to head back upstairs for a few cocktails…

3.JPG 4.JPG
and of course being at the POLY on has to have a lapu lapu and of course I can’t get a picture taken of me because every time I am told to drink for the picture someone has to say something…

5.JPG
Before moving to our next stop we took a group picture and said goodbye to Buffy!

6.JPG
The monorail was up running again by this time, so we all loaded on board (making sure we were clear from the doors) and made the quick trip to the Grand Floridian. With Edie as our leader we busted up a wedding photo shoot on the grand staircase…you would have thought they would have shut down the stairs but NO….poor girl could only look mortified as a dozen cupcakes walked right through her pictures.

6a.jpg
On the way to Gasparilla Island Grill, Kafi and Debra decided they needed to take a little dip.

7.JPG
Of course when we arrived at our destination we made quite a ruckus at the refrigerator cases when we discovered a VERY LIMITED cupcake selection, or rather we were being picky. Really Disney, we have been stalking the cupcakes for an entire year and this is what we find. Andreah did pick up one, I think pina colada?

8.JPG

9.JPG

Just so that we could say that we had a cupcake from GF but it was totally thumbs down and we headed back out the way we came…this time disrupting the bridal party waiting to leave for the wedding…then back on the monorail for the CONT.

By the time we made it to the monorail, I was just not feeling it any longer. I think everyone was the same way and when we finally made to the CONT Café display case of cupcakes, we literally found NOTHING. Trust me we made our disappointment known and the poor CM behind the case went scrambling to find cupcakes….and did she find cupcakes! Jackpot…

10.JPG

We ended up with Frozen Peppermint (or as many referred to as chocolate toothpaste), Hot Chocolate (my favorite at this stop) and triple berry…or at least that is what I think it was.

11.JPG
You can tell this group had really bonded, as no manners where needed and this was what was left…

12.JPG
the carnage. By this time we all decided we needed some substance and forgot about our next stop for cupcakes and went for real food. I was completely dragging by this time and had no idea how I was going to make it to JellyRolls, let alone party it up with the girls and made the decision that I was going to go back to AKL and Amy was thinking the same thing…

13.JPG

but really needed further assistance at the bus stop. We made it back to AKL in one piece and decided that the hot tub was really calling our names, along with the bottle of wine that I bought in honor of my first half back in January that I managed to get to Orlando without breaking. Changed into pool attire, I went off in search of a wine bottle opener (or someone to open it for me) and was lead on a wild goose chase by several CMs…first to the Mara (where I had to purchase a good bye cupcake for tomorrow and some yummy zebra domes to go with the wine), then to the gift shop and finally to the bar. Bottle opened I found the rest of the Cupcakes in the hot tub…Andreah, Cammy, Amy, Megan and of course the flats had to join in.

15.JPG

16.JPG
Heavenly is the only word I can used to describe the warm circulating water on this tired body! I did not even mind the crazy Brazilian swimsuits or children around me. By the time that we got out, I was totally fading fast! But of course there were some yummy treats to indulge in.

19.JPG 20.JPG
I let the ladies have the bottle of wine and dove into a zebra dome instead, which you must have if you are staying at AKL (poolside even makes them better). I think I left the ladies with the wine and the hot tub and headed back to the room for a long shower and bed…vowing that my next Disney race will be run at the start of the trip, not at the end and making it to Jellyrolls with the girls!

Chocolate toothpaste cupcake...I forgot you mentioned that one. YUCK!! Why were the cupcakes lacking is just beyond me!!

We have to figure out a plan for Jelly Rolls next year for sure. I messed up the original plan by leaving on Tuesday, therefore needing to go to MVMCP on Sunday...but there is just no way I can stay any longer than Tuesday morning since we will be going out of town for RnR Vegas a few days later.

Wow what a cupcake adventure. That's so cool that you found a cupcake jackpot. Looks like a fun time at the hot tub after.

What? The cupcakes started without you at Poly? Not cool!
The Minnie Moose cupcake looks good ... I hope it tasted as good as it looked!

I think the bride at GF was probably thrilled to have the cupcakes in her pictures. Why wouldn't she be? It's a group of awesome runners in adorable ears & outfits, wearing cool medals!

I'm glad you guys finally got some good cupcakes! I think the moral of the story here is ... if you don't like the selection, make sure the CM knows, and hopefully they'll get you some better cupcakes!

The hot tub must have felt so great after the race ... and of course, you can never go wrong with some good wine!

Oooh I forgot about that! I was so annoyed! :lmao: We let 'em know it too! We griped about it all the way until those Lapu Lapu's hit our system!

I wish you guys could have gone to Jellyrolls with us! OMG, I have no idea how we'll count the drinks for the Tweedles there...we had MANY.

Breakfast fit for a Princess
Monday morning was a bit of a rush, as we had to get around, get packed, drop luggage off at bell services and get to Epcot before 10:00 for a special breakfast we had planned. Thankfully we all anticipated this beforehand and had most of the packing done…so much so that I got to enjoy the balcony and the animals with a good bye cupcake! A yummy giraffe (orange marmalade) one…and of course there were giraffes below too!

1.JPG
Ready to go we dropped our bags with bell services, found and Andreah and we off to Boma to say good bye to the Tweedles. Saying goodbye was so hard as we had all formed some serious bonds! But with another Cupcake trip in the works and some run meet ups the next 18 months would fly by! ( You will have to stalk the Tweedles TR as I can’t find the good bye picture!) Then we were off to Epcot, surprisingly very close to rope drop.

4.jpeg
Andreah went off to do some last minute shopping as Team CAM-TAM-AM headed to make a loop on Test Track. Amy T started texting me, and it seemed like the entire morning we were either one step in front of her or behind her…never getting our paths to cross for a goodbye meet up!

2.JPG
At Test Track we let Cammy do the designing along with the flats…and felt pretty good about how our car would do.

3.jpeg
Then it was off to re meet up with Andreah at Akerhaus for a breakfast with the Princesses! I love this breakfast and the character interaction was pretty good, although Snow and Ariel just seemed to go through the standard monologue without giving us much time to talk back to them. All is all we accomplished what we wanted…them to sign our bibs and have a nice good bye breakfast!

5.jpeg 8.JPG 9.JPG 10.JPG
I love the breakfast selections at Akerhaus…

7.JPG
We kept waiting for Aurora to come to our table, but it seemed just as she would get there another princess parade would start…so with the time clicking by and FastPasses to use in MK we decided to skip her. As we were leaving the restaurant the CM caught us and put us in line for a picture with her at the door (apparently it is not just Belle that greets at Akerhaus now).

EPCOT_NORWAYDINING1CHAR_7200727871.jpeg
I don’t think the people that the CM had us cut in front of were very happy, but we were! YAY and then it was off to the monorail…

Wow what a cupcake adventure. That's so cool that you found a cupcake jackpot. Looks like a fun time at the hot tub after.

Lucky for Disney we found a jack pot (or should I say created a jack pot at the CONT)! The hot tub was great, but I wish I would have sucked it up and went to Jellyrolls...next Cupcake Trip!

What? The cupcakes started without you at Poly? Not cool!
The Minnie Moose cupcake looks good ... I hope it tasted as good as it looked!

Total miscommunication...LOL. The Minnie Moousee was probably my favorite cupcake of the trip, taste wise!

I think the bride at GF was probably thrilled to have the cupcakes in her pictures. Why wouldn't she be? It's a group of awesome runners in adorable ears & outfits, wearing cool medals!

:rotfl2:I am not so sure she thought was were awesome or adorable...more like loud and silly!

You know I carted that bottle of wine home from the New Mexico, it sat in my frig for a month, then ended up in Orlando...you would have thought I would have taken at least a sip...but I didn't!

Oooh I forgot about that! I was so annoyed! :lmao: We let 'em know it too! We griped about it all the way until those Lapu Lapu's hit our system!

Totally let them know our DISPLEASURE...we should have started the drinking without them!

I wish you guys could have gone to Jellyrolls with us! OMG, I have no idea how we'll count the drinks for the Tweedles there...we had MANY.

I wish I would have gone too...next trip! Which according to my countdown in 512 days! I am sure I will think of a way to count your drinks! :jumping1:

That cupcake looks pretty good. I have never done akershus but it looks like you guys had a great time there. That's nice that the CM caught you and you got a picture with aurora as well.
