PHM 2015-In Pursuit of Cupcakes While Running in Glass Slippers

The WELCOME HOME Special Edition
of our Cupcake Crawl

Zebra & Giraffe Cupcakes (plus added treat of Zebra Domes)
Mara @ Animal Kingdom Lodge

I thought I would give you a beginning of the week Special Edition of our Cupcake Crawl with a couple of cupcakes found at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. And why you ask are we being treated with a special treat? Well…

Debra and I (plus Cammy and Amy-who you have not officially met...she is an original flavored cupcake should their lives work out) are pleased to announce that we have a room reservation for Animal Kingdom Lodge-Jambo House for a studio room with a savannah room for February 18-23 (Wednesday-Monday)! We are beyond excited about where we are staying thanks to a little pixie dust sprinkled on us by another cupcake lady!

And oh yes, cupcake friends (Karen, Nicole, Edie, Imbri are staying here too). And with the room DECIDED and BOOKED with 8 months to spare we can focus on the important stuff...PLANNING ON HOW WE ARE GOING TO ENJOY OUR TIME AT WDW TOGEHER and PERSUING CUPCAKES WHILE WEARING GLASS SLIPPERS!

Chocolate Butterfinger Cupcake (aka The Zebra)

This Zebra Cupcake is exactly what a cupcake themed after a zebra should be… a mix of white (vanilla) and brown-black (chocolate) representing the black and white (or is it white and black) stripes on a zebra.

The cool zebra-striped topper is white chocolate, while the crunchy brown garnish bits are milk chocolate brining a crunch and texture to the frosting. The frosting well, pure vanilla.

Inside the moist, chocolate cupcake base is a mix: the vanilla frosting from the top dips down into the center, but is complimented by its opposite: a dollop of chocolate frosting is in there, too!

My Thoughts: All of these treats will be on my list, probably as I arrive as a special WELCOME HOME arrival treat and then maybe pick one up to bring comfort as I ride the worst ride in all of WDW…the ME back to MCO!

Your thoughts?

I love the idea of a butterfinger cupcake so I would like to try that one! And I WILL BE AT AKL too! Only we are at Kidani, but I should be able to see you ladies on the bus! We will also be there Wed. to Mon.! My plan is to go first thing to the expo on Thursday so I can see the goodies and then meet DH and DD at one of the parks.

good for you!!

I "ran" the Baltimore 10 miler this morning. It was a good race and a beautiful morning but I just was off of my game. I almost hit snooze but that would be worse. So I went. My per mile pace dropped after 5 miles, but I finished in 2:07. Plenty of room for improvement.

Now I get to watch my son play in three lacrosse games today - woohoo!!

Awesome time! You will be totally ready for the ToT!

I had a race yesterday, and I'm pleased with the results, especially considering that I hadn't run in about a week and a half. Yesterday was the first day in, like, two weeks, that it hasn't rained here.

My BFF and I before the race . . .

2014-06-14-06-41-L.jpg

There were over 2,200 people signed up for the race, which began on Memphis' historic Beale Street . . .

I finished under 11 minutes / mile!

And, according to Nike+, crushed my 5K PR by a full 2 minutes!!

Gonna have to take it easy for the next couple of weeks . . . don't want to aggravate the ol' IT band too much. Next race is July 3rd!

And the cupcake of the week is right up my alley! I'd be all OVER that . . . YUM!

Awesome job Andreah! Just make sure to roll and stretch that ITB after that run.

Tammie~ A HUGE congrats on your run! And being PAIN FREE!!! I hope things continue down that awesome path!

Karen~ I am sorry for the calf pain. I hope it ends shortly

Pretty good weekend here. I ran 6 miles on Saturday with my friend and my quads are still feeling sore and heavy from the half marathon. I think I need to take it easy some to let them recoup. I have to remember to roll them as well. DH ran 15 miles on Saturday after my run which is the furthest he has ever run! He is training for his first marathon in October. I have to finish up our training plans. My marathon is about a month later, but we will follow a similar plan. Then this weekend I was relaxing with wine and registered for a few races which is a dangerous combination for me :rotfl: I registered for 2 half marathons in September (DH is doing one of them with me) and I have to still register for another one in October that my sister and I do. I was toying with making that one a marathon, but thought that 2 marathons within a month's span was not a good idea.

My DD finished first grade on Friday and officially started her summer vacation! We go to WDW soon (not soon enough) and I cannot wait! My summer started too as we had graduation on Sunday (our college is a trimester school). I have to write up my research for publication which is almost complete so I can submit it before our trip. Then the summer will be spent running and preparing for my tenure review this fall. Fun!

Congrats to everyone logging serious miles this week! Hoping I can keep a real training program from here on out!

So I am little bummed that I am not staying at AKL - I love it there and will enjoy it for ToT - but looks like I am missing the party!! :(. Is anyone staying at BWV??

I am in for Butterfinger! I used to take them all from my sisters' trick or treat bags ;-)

Tammie, that is a great 10k time!! You must've really hit a sweet spot in your run!

I did 2 miles yesterday, my first 2 miles I'd say since Feb, not too bad but I did go at abut noon and it was hot and sunny so I was feeling that a bit. Not a good idea!

We are beyond excited about where we are staying thanks to a little pixie dust sprinkled on us by another cupcake lady!

As always my needs are pretty simple anymore for a Disney trip, and I am so thankful that this room did not take 10 months :scared1: and lots of funny Disney math to be decided upon and Debra was willing to put up with my whims, desires, wants, needs. I wanted some place new to me and Debra. I wanted some place that I could relax at, knowing that this trip will be more about running then about rushing from attraction to attraction since I have turned in my tiara for a crown and reformed my OCD planning ways at Disney.

I have dreams of sitting on the balcony just enjoying the view and hoping for a couple encounters with some animals. I wanted a great pool with a hot tub.

The only disappointed is in the name, Chocolate Butterfinger and according to all the reviews I read…

“Well, I poked and prodded and sniffed. I consumed every element of this cupcake individually and mixed all together to see if I could detect the slightest hint of Butterfinger taste anywhere… but I just couldn’t. The thing is, this is a darn good cupcake. But those excited by the label (as I was) risk disappointment.”

Which is okay in my book because the Butterfinger at Starring Rolls was way too much for my tastes. I like subtle, in this case.

Orange Marmalade Cupcake (aka The Giraffe)

However according to reviews, The Giraffe Cupcake definitely lives up to its label of “Orange Marmalade.” The beautiful dark chocolate giraffe-printed piece sits atop very bright orange frosting. The frosting on this one, despite its color, is also vanilla, but dotted with yummy orange-flavored garnishes.

It has a yellow cake base with just the slightest hint of tangy orange citrus flavor to provide a subtle taste of orange without being overpowering. When eaten with the vanilla frosting, it has a really delightful creamsicle taste. I so can do that!

The filling however is where this cupcake earns its Orange Marmalade label. The filling is a orange marmalade chocked-full of orange chunks, so while the jelly consistency is still there, it serves primarily as a binder for the orange pieces. So in actuality, even though the feature flavor is orange, the texture brought to mind a Pineapple Upside-Down cake.

“I don’t believe I’ve ever used this word to describe a cupcake before, but the Giraffe Cupcake is actually quite refreshing. It could be an excellent choice for someone searching for something a bit lighter (in taste, not necessarily in calories) for their dessert.”

Zebra Domes

Okay these are not technically cupcakes, but I have to throw them in because I am so EXCITED to actually get to try one of these (or should I say several)…I have tried on all 3 trips to WDW to get to Boma. I have had the ADR each time, and each time I have cancelled, so maybe this time I will make it to Boma and if I don’t well…Mara has them!

Zebra Domes consist of a thin layer of white cake, a dome of Amarula Liqueur mousse, coated in a white chocolate ganache with a dark chocolate ganache drizzle. Amarula Liqueur is made from the fruit of the African Marula tree, and is described as having a fruity, caramel flavor…reminiscent of amaretto (my favorite booze Karen and Nicole).

My Thoughts: All of these treats will be on my list, probably as I arrive as a special WELCOME HOME arrival treat and then maybe pick one up to bring comfort as I ride the worst ride in all of WDW…the ME back to MCO!

Your thoughts?

Well ok so since the party is at AKL... So jealous::yes:: we would have to give blood and sell a couple kids to make that happen. However the Zebra ranks up there with the must have Minnie cupcake. Chocolate butter finger that is just what I will need!!! Are you all planning on doing dinner reservation at one of the AKL restaurants. Maybe some of us non residence can have a pre or post meet up. But yes that little jewel shall be on my list to devour:lovestruc

Tammie and Andreah... Excellent run and race reports!!! Y'all are truly getting in some training.

That's a good point. If we're going to do a group dinner well have to decide when/ where soon before that 6 month window.

Also, wondering what the plan is as to park days vs resort hoping days. Trying to figure out what kind of ticket I need. My AP expires while I'm there so I may have to buy an extra day ticket.

YAY...another at AKL. I am trying to research all I can about AKL since I really know nothing about it...isn't KV just a short walk from Jambo???

Tammie~ A HUGE congrats on your run! And being PAIN FREE!!! I hope things continue down that awesome path!

Me too...no holding my breath just going with the moments that I can take advantage of!

Karen~ I am sorry for the calf pain. I hope it ends shortly

I love BWV...trying something different this time around thanks to pixie dust sent my way! Doesn't matter where you are...come on over and join us...just think you have a shorter walk Monday morning at 1 am when we have to stumble around to find a way to get back to AKL...maybe we all with crash with you! :lmao:

I am in for Butterfinger! I used to take them all from my sisters' trick or treat bags ;-)

I am sure she loved that...

Tammie, that is a great 10k time!! You must've really hit a sweet spot in your run!

Thank you...I don't think I will be ever be able to call any of the time I am running sweet...

I did 2 miles yesterday, my first 2 miles I'd say since Feb, not too bad but I did go at abut noon and it was hot and sunny so I was feeling that a bit. Not a good idea!

YAY FOR GETTING OUT THERE!!!!

Kafi where are you staying? Is everyone coming along this trip? We need to plan a meet up...and of course you are always welcome to sneak on over for a visit. Debra and I just got lucky and since we are going solo the cost is easier for us than taking the family.

Tammie and Andreah... Excellent run and race reports!!! Y'all are truly getting in some training.

Debra, Betsy and I were just chatting on FB about this. I hate making plans for everyone...but I think it would be great to have a couple meet ups...

Okay, since everyone is starting to ask and Karen is needing to plan something...let's talk Cupcake Crawl and what I sort of been thinking about ...none of this is set in stone nor do you have to go along...I am just thinking out loud at the moment! It scares me to even write any of these down because I don't want to come across as controlling or in charge...or worse yet OCD when it comes to planning and step on someone's toes. I also don't want to be responsible for trying to make everyone happy. I am really trying to make this trip relaxed for me...I want a trip where I enjoy the little things.

Saturday Night
Debra requested pasta and pizza for an EARLY DINNER...which makes me totally happy because I suggested Via Napoli because that is on my list for an ADR...I have a love/hate relationship with Zeppoles...I hate that I never have gotten some because of circumstances but I love the thought of having one someday! Then I share some of my thoughts on Karen's PTR this morning and they are thinking the same thing for Saturday night. Maybe we can get together and carb load together???? And talk race plans for running the next day.

Sunday PRE PHM (waiting around for corrals)
A group picture of course if we can all find each other! Who knows we might even need to eat a cupcake for pre race fuel...:rotfl2: Karen suggested a little patch that we can tack to our costumes during the PHM.

Sunday POST PHM
I hope to stand and cheer everyone across the finish line in celebration and maybe even cross with a few of you! Then maybe a celebration glass of that expensive stuff!

I had planned to head back to AKL and clean up, and have a nice breakfast somewhere! I had first thought Akerhaus with the princesses but I don't think there is enough time. I have not looked at the lunch menu...and I don't want to be too stuffed!

Then let the cupcake and booze crawl begin. Looking at all the cupcakes I am thinking sticking to Monorail resorts, plus BW and maybe a few of the other resorts that have awesome cupcakes! Maybe some drinking around the world...

That evening a special dress up dinner at a signature was on my plans...I like Nacrossees because then I could get one last Wishes in before leaving the next day...Betsy has her tradition of Yachtsman...so I know where I will end up!

To wrap up the evening...Nicole & Karen have requested Jelly Rolls!

Feel free to add to, make suggestions, rework any and all of these plans. This is just what I have been tinkering with in my mind...a very scary place...I don't want to think anyone has to do any of this. I just want the pleasure of meeting all you ladies at some point during our trip!

:yay: <----this is me raising my hand, showing you that I'm still around, LOL.

I've been a big time slacker this past week, trying to get used to having the kids home. Today I ran...errands. Does that count??

The boys got new glasses and I got sidelined by the Israeli guy in the mall selling dead sea salt scrubs/lotions, b/c he did NOT want to take no for an answer. Too bad, so sad Mr. Mall Salesman guy...just dropped a ton of coin on eyewear for my kids and food court lunches, no time or cash left for soft skin and de-puffed eyes.

Hoping to get in a couple of good runs this week and doing some pre-Disney shopping...less than two months til we check in at the Wilderness Lodge

All the plans look awesome! My suggestion would be to have a few set meetups with a time and place, Example: Via Napoli Saturday night at 5pm. Then people can try to fit the meetup(s) into their own plans and they have a few options if certain meetups don't work.

I think having a certain time after the race to meet for the cupcake crawl sounds perfect, then if people need to leave at different times during the crawl to do something else, they can. It all sounds like a blast, I'm excited!

I think the only thing that will be difficult is during/after the half. The way the finish is set up, it's nearly impossible to see anyone cross and once you are finished and sent back to the reunion area it's hard to even find ANYONE you are trying to meet up because of the sheer number of people there. I had a hard time finding my friend who had my daughter and they did not see me cross b/c they couldn't get anywhere near the finish. Also, we all run at different speeds and different corrals so it will be hard to figure out who has finished and who has not. I am planning on heading straight back to the resort to shower and then I'll meetup with people after that. Nicole and I are running together for the 10K but for the half we are running alone.

I was throwing around the idea of eating at Boma (or maybe just Mara CS) b/c it's RIGHT THERE...I'll be hungry and this year we went back to Epcot and I made them stop and eat at Electric Umbrella before even getting to World Showcase b/c I was just too hungry and lightheaded to go any further without eating.

Oh and before the race in the staging area (before you go out to the corrals) is a GREAT place to meetup and take pics/hang out before walking to the corrals. :thumbsup2 We just have to pick a really specific place because there are a LOT of groups that meetup and it's hard to figure out who your group is unless you have a pretty specific spot.

A solo trip….what is that??!?!? Lol. my hubby travels a whole lot and um.. me stepping foot in Orlando alone would be cosmic treason:faint:
I know we are 8 months out but I would love to try Boma post race with anyone on this thread that would like to have a post race lunch. I agree I ate and I ate and I ate slept and got back up and ate again after the race. Then we went out to eat.

We are Marriot Vacation Clubbers so most likely we will be at Marriott Grande Vista, Cypress Habor or Habor Lake.
I am definitely wanting to meet up for the pre race pic. Even if its for me to swing by and grab that cupcake and catch some of y'all by the AKL pool!

I also use pizza as my carb load for races

Great Idea...I am going to start putting together a spread sheet and work on this...

With enough of you experience runners of PHM we should be able to work out a place!

I think it will have to be a late breakfast since Boma only serves breakfast and dinner...consider this now part of our plans!

Solo trip...well I just remind DH of his week long hunting trip each November and fishing trip to Cabo in September each year...as for the kids. Well they know this makes momma happy and they get lots of other perks to let her go alone!

I can't believe how much a like we all are and how easy this planning is to do group things! This is the part I like about trip planning now...the fun stuff!

Totally counts, some days I think I would rather run sprints than running errands with the kids!

I cant wait to hear about WL...I have stayed in the Lodge at Yellowstone and well grew up around the mountains so I doubt that I will ever stay at WL...but I love visiting, feels like home!

MUSIC MONDAY

I know I dropped the ball yesterday, but I was so excited about booking a room...

What is your cool down song (s)...

I love using something inspirational for my cool down song ! Right now it is...

Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone) by Chris Tomlin

Yay! I'm getting SO excited! This will be loads of fun. I've never stayed at AKL before, and this sounds like a good reason to give it a shot. I won't arrive until Friday afternoon, after my company's leadership conference (of which, I am the conference chairperson - we'll be transporting, feeding, lodging, educating and entertaining over 400 attendees that week!). Every time I say that, the little voice in my head chimes in . . . are you freaking CRAZY!?! Ummm . . . YEAH! It'll be funny hanging out at the airport with all our attendees making their way home that day.

LOVE the idea of carbo-loading at Via Napoli on Saturday night and post-race brunch at Boma (I've never been there, but have heard good things).

I'd like to throw out a suggestion of California Grill for our signature dinner. AMAZING view of Wishes! We had our wedding reception there. But I love Yachtsman as well (we had our engagement-night dinner there and our rehearsal dinner), and I wen't to Narcoossee's once and enjoyed it as well. I'm up for anything, really.

Can't wait until the booking windows open so that we can REALLY get down to business. It would be great if there are free dining packages available during that timeframe.

I've officially started my TripIt! Woo hoo! :cheer2:

Just be sure you arrive in time for expo since no one else is allowed to pick up your bib but you now. That rule recently changed, I assume, to prevent people selling bibs.

I have never eaten at either California Grill or Narcoossee. Never appealed to the kids lol.

Question for experienced PHM runners...

I was chatting with Betsy last night on FB (since she has run PHM before)...do you think that we have time to finish PHM, head back to our rooms, shower/change and make "BRUNCH" at Boma? Boma's hours are 7:30-11:00 am. I am thinking there might not be enough time.

Sanna looks to have a pretty good menu and of course there is Mara at AK cupcakes wanted to meet at AKL before the crawl.

THOUGHTS?

YAY...I love Via Napoli!

I will be doing the Yachtsman...it is Betsy's tradition. I love CA Grill and Narcoossee's but Betsy has been a real big support system for me over the last year and I owe it to her!

Looking historically there are not a lot of offers around PHM...from what I have been told. Maybe a room discount?! PHM has gotten so popular that of course Disney does not need to entice us to get us there anymore. But who knows. I expect that they will announce around the beginning of October for the spring, if they do things like the past...

I've officially started my TripIt! Woo hoo! :cheer2:

What is a TripIt????

Andreah...are you thinking of staying at AKL too....that would be so great!

Hmmm I guess it depends on a lot of things like corral start times, finish times, etc. If you don't get to start until closer to 6 and it takes you over 3 hours then you have to get through the post race crowd, back to the resort, shower, change etc. it might be tight. May be best to plan to grab something at the quick service. Don't want to miss a reservation anymore or they charge you the $10 pp fee! How about an early lunch somewhere?

This is going to be hard to coordinate, I think! I went back and looked at the time stamp on my photos to get an idea of when I was finished.

I finished the race somewhere around 8:45am but there was a LOT of waiting to try and find my friend/daughter...then we had to find the car (which she couldn't remember where she parked! LOL), THEN she got lost and headed into MK parking lot and we looped around twice before getting back on the road to Pop.

Time stamp on my pics that Savannah took at the room say 11 but I'm unsure if they are accurate? I KNOW we were back at Epcot around 11:30-12 to eat because I posted photos on FB from World Showcase with drinks (after eating and walking to Mexico) at 12:30.

It's a tough decision since you don't want to have to rush to an ADR but you also don't want to sit around starving after a race waiting to eat! :confused3

I am thinking that we skip a post PHM breakfast/brunch and just set a time for cupcake crawl to begin as well as location! That way no one has to stress or rush...or die of hunger because they are speedy! No passing out after the race...only after we close down jellyrolls!
