PHM 2015-In Pursuit of Cupcakes While Running in Glass Slippers

Debra- great Color me Rad recap! Love it! My daughter is really so excited for ours in June. She has me making tutus and everything.......... ;) I have to read up on how to preserve the color in the shirt. I did the Color Run last year and everything washed out.

Tammie- we missed you.. but I totally get being crazy busy. I also am double booked every second of every day through May. Great recap & pictures... and good luck with the new dream job!

Debra-I am so glad I have FB to keep up with you sometimes. I love your report from OKCity 1/2. I can't believe that they stopped for McDonald's...guess that gives me permission to stop in at BW Bakery, right?
You and Harper looked like you had so much fun together...I have been tossing around the Color Run next month with Ab...but still dealing with the shins and so unmotivated right now to run...I should not say that I want to get out there but just cant!

I still crack up when I think of those ladies coming out with McDonalds mid race. Just baffles me. I will wait outside for you while you stop in at BW Bakery mid-race...unless they start carrying a race cupcake with Honey Stinger chews ;)

I understand how you are feeling with injuries. Why cant our bodies just do what we want them to...when we want them to.

I love being able to keep up with you on FB too ::yes::

Now to update you on my where abouts for the last few weeks... I have been a little distracted lately...I open up the PTR sometimes and read...but just have not made it a point to respond. I go through these withdrawl phases from time to time...so be warned...I always snap out of it. What is on my mind? Well a few weeks ago my "DREAM" job with my school district opened up. It was open a few years ago, I applied and like usual they hired the high school person. Well this time around they have decided to split the position into Elementary and High School and make 2 positions...I am more than qualified for the job...in fact there are only 2 others that are on the same knowledge level as I am (1 is not applying and I am not sure about the other...if she applies she will get it because she is a "Smoozer"). I have had a really hard time deciding whether to apply or not...I don't want to live with the regret of what if should I not apply but at the same time my district has a knack for hiring people who don't have the skill sets for jobs and I dont want to be bitter when they hire sometime like that. So what to do? I have tried talking with God but apparently I still can't hear him...I did end up putting my application in and the posting closes today...should hear about an interview next week...which I am trying to prepare for. I don't interview well...another stress With the April and May comes my other 2 busiest times of the year (August and September are my other 2) with work. It is paperwork, paperwork, paperwork for me at the moment. Plus trying to tie up lose ends before school lets out and plan for the fall. I am not sure if I am coming or going some days. My "TO GET DONE" list is a mile long... The kids are just as busy and every evening it seems that we are double booked with events and are having to divide and conquer Jeff going with 1 child and me with the other...and someone else being drug along. Between awards ceremonies, programs, track, tennis, scouting and birthdays I am wiped out! But on an exciting note...last Friday night they got to dance for Governor Rick Perry at a private fundraising event...(spend the weekend playing cowboy with governor outside in the wild west of one of Texas State Parks).

Fingers crossed for you on the job position! Sending all my extra pixie dust to you :wizard:

That is so neat the kids got to dance for the Governor! What an awesome experience for them! Bet it is one they never forget.

I cannot tell you how impressed I ended up being with the Governor. He made it a point to talk to each dancer and it was not small talk after the show. He asked them about themselves and what their dreams were and goals. He spent lots of time with each one of them...took a million pictures and invited the kids and families to eat with him...it was an amazing experience. The kids were star struck and so were the parents. As far as running...ugh, don't even want to go there because things are not better and I don't want to sound like I am constantly whining. We did not make it to the run store in Dallas this weekend...and I am pretty certain that the shoes are a lot of my issues. I think I will just go back to our local run store and talk to them...sure wish they had a computer gait analysis. I keep resting and doing everything else but I cant seem to get rid of the shin splints. I am frustrated and tired of dealing with this...why cant this be easy for me...easy in terms of just being able to do what my heart wants to do...I am going to try to start getting in the pool as soon as things calm down and do some running and some swimming in the water...there are a couple of races I wanted to do in the next month...but putting them all on hold.

Sorry you didn't get to a running store in Dallas over the weekend. Hopefully your local store can give you some advice. From what I hear water running is great for injuries, so I hope that works well for you.

Thank you! I hope you & your daughter have a great time with your color run next month!!

I know the preservation of the color has something to do with vinegar & an iron...can't remember what I read exactly. It's funny looking at our shirts, there is a big white spot where our race numbers were

Debra - the color run sounds really fun! I bet runnin with your daughter made it even better!

Tammie - Good luck with the new job application! You still have been moving a lot to be dealing with the injury and a busy schedule!

Today is the last day to enter the sweepstakes! It would be so awesome if one of us won it! :cool1:

Oh so pretty!!!!

I just get so mad because I'm like oh tomorrow will be better. I will stay on plan, then tomorrow gets here and it all goes to pot.

I need to learn that No is a complete sentence and I need to stop spreading myself so thin. I can't back out of my commitments for the rest of the school year but I am scaling way back next year. On the up side I will only have one kid graduating from Middle school instead one one making first communion, one graduating from middle school and one graduating from high school.
Note to those planning to have kids, think about these things when you plan your babies!!! I'll do it again in 5 years when DS12 graduates from HS and DD graduates from middle school. I just figured it out and told DS17 that he can not graduate college in 2019 (5 years) because I will lose my ever loving mind if I have 3 graduating!!!

LOL, Buffy!!! Yes I understand. Unfortunately most of my workouts are done 0 dark:30 in the morning in order to make my workout happen. Yes, no is a complete sentence and no I am learning I don't have to give an explanation either. I will start to have kids graduating every 2 yrs in 3 yrs.:dance3:

I would love 0 dark:30 but I am soooo not a morning person, but I may have it resort to that.
2 years isn't too bad as long as none of them go to 2 year colleges!

And start saving money now. $200 for prom, senior trip and senior breakfast, $400 for a prom outfit (thankfully he can use it again), $10 for post prom party, $70 for yearbook, $90 per AP exam, $25 for cap and gown. And this is just the HS!!! And let's not even start on senior portrait packages, that $370 for the high resolution cd and 8-4x5 pics.
I could pay for glass slipper with all of that!!!

I dunno if anyone has asked this, but of the run/walkers that are here, what (if any) interval timer do you use? I'm looking for an app to download to my phone. :) And what run/walk time do you do and what does it translate to for min/mile?

I'm going to be running a 10k at the beginning of June and I'm trying to beat my previous time of 1:20 (a 13 min/mile). I had been doing running as much as I could, and recently switched to run/walk which I like better, but the program I'm doing is a time improvement program and it's got me at a 2/1 run/walk which ends up not being much faster than the 13 min/mile.

I'm hoping to PR to submit for when I register for GSC. :D

You can use the Galloway app to set the interval timer. I do a 1/1 interval which translates for me to a 14-14:30 minute mile. But that will depend on your overall speed. I run at 5.3 and walk at 3.5. DS17 is retraining with intervals after an injury and while he's doing 1/2-1/3 intervals (1 run/2-3walk) he's still at approx 12 minute miles. But he can run a 6mm with no injuries.
With Galloway you can not only change your minute per mile pace you can change your intervals. So if I wanted a 1/1 interval at a 12mm pace I would run at 6.2 and walk at 3.0

I struggle with finding the right intervals too. I was getting so frustrated that I just gave up specific time intervals and used landmarks to break up the running/walking. I'll say to myself, "I will start running at the point where the shadow crosses the sidewalk and start walking when I get to the far curve", or something like that.

I downloaded a plain ol' interval timer from the google play store and set my own times. I like it better than anything I've tried. That way I can try different times and try to find what works. I guess out of all the intervals, I like 3:1 the best, but I'm still experimenting!

Good luck finding what works for you!!

On a side note, during the PHM I gave up on my intervals and ran when I could and walked when I had to. Between the congestion and the thousands of interval watches, I just threw in the towel. I couldn't hear my watch because it's not very loud and if I got behind a line of walkers when my run interval started, it screwed me up.

I do a similar method when running on the road by using people's driveways.

I finished the portions of my May trip report today with Disney Trip #1 & 2 Updates with the major two highlights from San Diego.

How do you set it to what you want? I've got the 5k and Half apps of his and when I punched in the time improvement program, it picked out a pace for me. I do sort of hate the app, though, because it doesn't seem to have a lock screen button (my couch to 5k app does, where you can still see it going) and yeah, I can't hear it for crap.

I did notice all the interval alarms going off when I ran PHM too. It was crazy. I almost wanted to pace myself with someone, but they kept going off all over, I couldn't place them. :/

I can attest to that. I was pretty comfortable the majority of the race as I started in G but around the 11 mile marker it was very very congested and I basically walked the last 2 miles because it was extremely crowded. I know I wound up running 13.56 miles because of the weaving around folks in the mile 7-10 ish. I would definitely advise busting tail
And training to get corralled between A-H if you are wanting to be comfortable to stop for pictures and have some space to move.

I have a garmin that has an interval timer and 2:1 usually gets me a 12:30 pace.

I use Gymboss app and you can set any intervals you want. I do a run 5 min/walk 1 min. If you do less running but want a faster overall pace, you have to run faster than the 13 min/mile during your running times.

My parents had it hard for awhile there with graduations and weddings. I am 7 years older than my siblings, but then my sisters were graduating HS, college, and in one year my sister graduated college then got married a few weeks later. I graduated undergrad and then got married a few months later. I graduated with my PhD just before my daughter was born, but the ceremony was not until the spring (I finished in Dec) so we had my graduation party and my daugther's baptism party on the same day.

So I am hopeful that my previous injury from Ragnar has not returned, but still holding my breath because it usually set in a week or 2 after. As I said before, my glutes get too tight and it gets really bad with really bad back pain. I didn't do anything from Sunday until yesterday. Yesterday I ran a 3 easy miles and walked a bit at the end. I had a massage yesterday and my therapist said things are much better than last year and it felt much better! I had yoga class last night and things went well. This morning I did P90X3 and things felt great. So still hopeful, if I feel well by the end of next week, than I think I am a-ok for my Half on June 8th in Lake Placid.

Imbri- I use iSmoothRun for interval. You can set your pace to whatever you want & it will update you as much as you want on pace (So you know if you are on target to what you want) . I do 7/2 and while doing that, on a good day, I can achieve a 11:30 pace. On a regular day I am usually about 12-12:15 pace. I like the app much better than Galloways. You can interface other programs/music/whatever... you can enter ghost runs & you can enter other activity types for cross training.

Oh goodness! My older kids are 15 months apart, so they are going into 6th & 7th. They will graduate a year apart. My younger kids are 1yr 1week apart, going into pre-k & k. So, they too will graduate a year apart.

I use a Gymboss interval timer. I prefer it to one on my phone as that eats through battery life quickly. The Gymboss has a vibration setting, so I can always "feel" when it goes off. You can adjust the interval to whatever you want. I am still playing around with my intervals to see what works best. I also have a Garmin, but don't use it because as mentioned, too many beeping watches during races.

TRUTH x 1000%!!!!!!!!! Luckily I wasn't relying on my Garmin for intervals, was using my Gymboss. But it was hilarious to hear watches beeping & see everyone looking down at their watches to see if it was theirs :lmao:
