PHM 2015-In Pursuit of Cupcakes While Running in Glass Slippers

Let me see if I can find an appropriate emoticon to convey my feelings on this cupcake.... eh.. um... nope, no throwing up emoticon. This is the best I can do... and it's misleadingly called 'crazy' :crazy2::crazy2:

No way, no how. I'll be abstaining. I detest carrot cake. It ranks right up there with coconut for me. And mangos. Nope. Won't do it.

Which is fine... I will be plenty full from eating everyone elses lemon cupcakes with Tammie! :thumbsup2

Although, I love the location. I love WL!

Oh my gosh, another lemon-loving, anti-carrot cake person! I don't mind carrot cake itself, but I reeeeeeally dislike cream cheese, so cream cheese frosting is a no-go for me!

Could not disagree more about cream cheese frosting! I am a red velvet girl. Enough said.

No thanks on the carrot cake. Love the location though!!

Yesterday I ran outside and sweated an unbelievable amount. Then last night Eli had 2 baseball games. I've been drinking a galling of water a day. It is really hot here and humid. I sweated a lot just sitting and watching him play ball! It was gross.

I can't wait for fall and cooler weather! I'm running a 5k tomorrow morning and it's going to be in the high 80's...yuck! Luckily the course is by the ocean so I've got my fingers crossed for a sea breeze!

Anyone else racing this weekend? Stay hydrated everyone!

Our weatherman is saying we should get a break from the heat next weekend. I hope he's right!!! I'm over this heat. And it hasn't been that bad here this year. We haven't hit 100 once all summer. :(

Cupcake Friday
(as if just being Friday is not sweet enough)

Carrot Cake Cupcake
Roaring Fork Wilderness Lodge

I am thinking that the Wilderness Lodge is basically the coziest place to eat a cupcake....

Today's cupcake really needs some serious pixie dust, because compared to all the other cupcakes this one is well....just plain boring. But from reviews, very yummy.

The name says it all...Carrot Cake Cupcake. It is a moist spice cupcake with tiny shreds of carrot mixed into the batter topped with a mound of lovely cream cheese icing and a tiny bit of candied carrot shreds.

My Thoughts
Come on Disney, I am totally underwelmed by this appearance of this cupcake! But maybe in this case they are letting the cupcake speak for itself! I am totally on the fence over the Carrot Cake Cupcake...maybe if I am not too full because sadly I need all the pixie dust and magic on a cupcake in Disney!

Your Thoughts?

Carrot cake is my favorite so I would most definitely try this one. I think I had to chose between it and the S'Mores cupcake last trip though and it lost so I think it's worth a try for a carrot cake lover!

Could not disagree more about cream cheese frosting! I am a red velvet girl. Enough said.

Mmmmm....cream cheese frosting!

Motivation Monday

Happy Monday Cupcakes....167 days until we are running! I don't have a lot of motivating words to share today. So how about another youtube video about PHM!? I am finding that these just bring a smile to my face and get me excited to get out there.

Awesome RACES over the weekends by Kafi & Andreah! You ladies ROCK!

My kids have found the countdown on my phone and are getting excited. This is the first year in a long time that we don't have a fall trip planned. At first they were asking to go back to WDW A LOT but since they've found the countdown they're being better about it.

YAY for countdowns!

I was on a good streak of running last week after my 5k, I ran 3 more times. Since last Weds, NOTHING! oops.

Nothing better than getting out there today! We all need some down times...

I know someone who is addicted to those frozen teas. I'll have to give one a try this year...maybe.

I love frozen CHAI!

I remember those days of trying to keep up with the straight runs of C25K...I tried and failed miserably! So thankful about the same time I learned about Galloway Interval Run/Walk...something to think about if running straight starts to weigh you down!

I'm using the Galloway method for my half marathon training right now...for my long runs I do 9 minutes of running to 1 minute of walking and it's amazing what a difference those walking breaks make!
:worship: 9 minutes!!!!

I'm using the Galloway method for my half marathon training right now...for my long runs I do 9 minutes of running to 1 minute of walking and it's amazing what a difference those walking breaks make!

Me too! I'm a Galloway girl for sure!
I am planning to do Galloway for the 10K. I just don't think I can run 6 miles straight! But 8 minutes running was hard the other day so I'm not sure about 20 minutes or so. However, I will give it a go because one of my goals was to be able to run three miles straight. If I try and find it's just not for me, that's ok, but I want to give it an honest effort. Once I've finished C25K I will likely sign up for a local 5K and then we'll see how that goes and what my plan of attack is for the 10K.
I remember how happy I was when I discovered that I could run 1 1/2 miles straight...LOL...that was one time and not sure if I will ever do it again...

Good luck! I bet you'll find that you can do it. When I started to feel like I couldn't do it any more, I used to find things to distract myself...counting how many steps I was taking (I'd count to 100 and then start over again), how many mailboxes I had passed, how many red cars drove by...more often than not I was just bored and it was making my brain want to give up! You can do this! :cheer2:

I find myself trying to trick my brain too...keeping it distracted from listening to my body is hard...my key is fun sing a long songs in my mind...lots of 80s!

I love Jeff Galloway! We were able to meet him at 2 of the Expos. My mom thanked him and told him that she just had a hysterectomy 6 weeks before last year's Princess 10k and it was because of following him that she was able to be there. Ha, he asked her how long she waited to get back to training and she said 4 weeks and he then told her he had his wife out training 2 weeks after having a hysterectomy! So now that's our joke that I should've been making her do run/walks around the hospital because Jeff wouldn't have given her so much time to rest ;)

What a great story about your mom! I am wanting to make time this trip at the EXPO to catch one of his seminars and get a picture with him. The man has truly changed my life!

We still love him though!

I caved and made an ADR for Raglan Rd. We see how DTD looks closer to Feb, hopefully should be mostly put back together.

Park tickets are giving me a heart attack today. I'm considering getting APs (DVC) for my family and we'll do a 10 yr anniversary trip next October to get use out of them. But DH and I also talked about a beach destination for our 10yr. We got married in Disney so that does have meaning and would make good monetary sense. But man, almost $2000 in tickets is giving me palpatations!

Talk about sticker shock!

Ditto . . . You can do this!! I found once I stopped thinking the time flew by. Lately, I've been listening to audiobooks and it allows me to relax and enjoy the run.

That is a good idea...AUDIO books!

I'm thinking about trying audiobooks or podcasts for long runs soon. I usually like music, but 3 hours is a lot of music! lol

I have been working on a PHM playlist...3 hours is a lot of music!

Meh. It looks ok, but I find this late in the game I'm starting to judge the cupcakes by how many OTHER cupcakes I will have eaten previously. I think there may not be room for "just" a plain cupcake at this point, it needs to really blow me away and impress me to make me eat anymore...I'm stuffed just looking at cupcakes now! :rotfl2:

:lmao:I hear you by this time of our cupcake crawl you better be over the top!

Let me see if I can find an appropriate emoticon to convey my feelings on this cupcake.... eh.. um... nope, no throwing up emoticon. This is the best I can do... and it's misleadingly called 'crazy' :crazy2::crazy2:

Tell us how you really feel Nicole! :rotfl2:

I love carrot cake! So many cupcakes, so little time!

:thumbsup2

Could not disagree more about cream cheese frosting! I am a red velvet girl. Enough said.

I hate cream cheese icing too...WHICH ACCORDING to my DH grandmother is NOT the traditional icing for Red Velvet....according to her it is this yummy BUTTER icing that is so freaking hard to make and does not stand up to heat very well...hence why the frosting is now cream cheese. Let me tell you this butter icing is AMAZING!

I am tired of hot and humid...but I cant complain about the humidity because that means Rain and being in a drought the last 3 years it is so needed.

I can't wait for fall and cooler weather! I'm running a 5k tomorrow morning and it's going to be in the high 80's...yuck! Luckily the course is by the ocean so I've got my fingers crossed for a sea breeze!

This weekend was really cool and nice!

Home from my cruise!

Trip Report is here: http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=3321235

That Castaway Cay 5k was killer!

Can't wait to hear about both the cruise and the 5K!

Carrot cake is my favorite so I would most definitely try this one. I think I had to chose between it and the S'Mores cupcake last trip though and it lost so I think it's worth a try for a carrot cake lover!

These videos get me all choked up every time because I am so excited!!! I can't imagine the state I'll be in on the day of the actual race (I cry when I'm excited or when I'm really happy...)

How was your race!
The race was HARD! I've been training on Cape Cod all summer and I don't think we had a single day that hit 90 degrees...so throw me in a race when it's somewhere in the 80's with 92% humidity and I bonk! I usually run 12 minute miles so I was hoping for a finish time of 36 minutes or less, and it took me 38...so in the grand scheme of things it could have been worse!

Yesterday I did my longest run yet- 9 miles! Less than 7 weeks til my first half!

Sunday Stats
August 24-30th, 2014

I started back in the official training mode once again this week. I was not happy with my times at the start of the week, but by the end of the week with my long run I was relieved to be getting back to the same general training pace and I had left off at prior to my Europe trip and then 2 weeks after that of just being lazy! Hoping this week to add back into my schedule my lunch time walking!

Tuesday, August 26th-Short Run Day/2.06 miles/14:11 mm pace
Started of thinking that I need to adjust my intervals so I decided that maybe a 1:1 would be a good interval, I could not have been more wrong. What did I expect with not having run in the last 5 weeks? I felt like I was sucking air the entire time and was really kicking myself for the running break because my short runs were 5Ks and now 2 miles was sure torture. As I was finishing my run, it started to rain and on the way to work a little while later I caught this picture for today’s run.

Thursday, August 28th-Short Run Day/2.10 miles/13:24 mm pace
So after the stupidity of the 1:1 interval I decided to fall back to the 30:30…I also happened to read someone’s post in a fb running group about how much faster they run at this interval and was happily going to continue to run this even for her upcoming ½ marathon. So with that thought, I sat out on my 2nd short run for the week before work. I certainly can tell that fall is coming because my allergy induced asthma appeared just enough to remind me to get on medicine and that running at 6 am is now dark where a month ago it was getting light by this time. With that being said, I had a good run…not great but good and saw my overall pace fall almost 50 seconds.

Saturday, August 30th-Long Run Day/3.46 miles/13:04 mm pace
I was really dreading my long run of the week, simply because 2 miles seemed to be killing me, what was a 5K going to do? I was stunned with the final splits came in and I was at an overall 13:04 mm pace, amazing since I spent the first 4 minutes warming up walking and the last 5 minutes cooling down walking…without the walking I imagine I would be in the low 12 mm pace which is exactly where I want to be heading into my 10K that I am using for my proof of time in October for Disney. Tammie's Sunday Training Stats
Week of August 31-September 6, 2014

Total Weekly Miles 14.32 miles
September Miles 11.82 miles
Total Mileage TD 2014 227.5 miles

Sunday, August 31-HIKE/2.5 miles
We took off for a long Labor Day weekend at our cabin in New Mexico and I got up Sunday morning intending to walk down to town and back along the gravel road that was my demise for ToT last year…when my stress fracture became apparent to my nagging mind. DH was up early too and decided that he would go along…so much for my 6 mile hike. Instead he we decided to just hike the roads around the cabin and my distance I intended to cover was cut more than ½ of what I had planned. Still it was a beautiful morning and it was nice to spend some alone time while the kids slept in.

Monday, September 1-HIKE/3.22 miles
I totally did not expect DH to go out with me again, after all the whining he did about his boots making his feet hurt and how sore he was, but at the last minute he decided to hike with me again and I warned him that I wanted to go over 3 miles! Another beautiful morning…although Amy texted near the end about her issues with release time at school and our trip…putting a damper on the hike.

Tuesday, September 2-MISSED SHORT RUN
Totally intended to get out for my morning run, but I did not prepare the night before and I was sore from the hiking.

Wednesday, September 3-WALK/2.24 miles
I finished my meeting up early and decided to hit the nearest park for a quick walking workout. Let’s just say it was HOT HOT HOT!

Thursday, September 4-SHORT RUN/2.10 miles/13:42 mm pace
I prepped the night before, so I got my short run in before leaving for work…although I fought with my bed, thankfully the bed lost. I was sore and sluggish and my time certainly reflected it. Why does this have to be so hard at times?

Friday, September 5-REST

Saturday, September 6-LONG RUN/4.26 miles/12:59 mm pace
Totally intended to get out and run after taking my DH to the airport for his yearly cousins fishing trip in Cabo, but the weather was not cooperating. So I hate to wait later in the day when the rain stopped to get out there…talk about humid (dumb me wore a long sleeved running top instead of just a regular short sleeved running top…HOT HOT HOT). Each step was hard, but in the end I finished up under at 13 mm pace over 4 miles. I am thinking on my long runs not starting mapmyrun until after my warm up walk so I can get a more accurate read of my pace!

GREAT job with the runs Tammie!!! :thumbsup2

I also have 'gotten back into training' in the last 3 weeks. And have been struggling a lot. I am having injuries I never had before & even low mileage has been hard.....

I am considering, when I run outside, trying that 30/30 split. Just to see how it works for me. I can't do it when I run inside on the treadmill as it takes too long to adjust speeds on that thing... but outside- maybe that will help me! I usually do 7/2's and the 7 is too long for me and I'm getting hurt...and struggling.. so maybe I need to drop it..

Next outside run I'm trying 30/30.. .just to see what it yields! :)

Hi Ladies! It has been far too long since I have been on here. I spent the summer getting my packet ready for tenure (I am a college prof.). I submitted it yesterday and today is our first day of classes. I am happy to just have this process started. In the mean time, I am looking at plan Bs just in case. I found a great engineering job for Disney :).

In running news, my marathon training has been great. I did 20 miles labor day weekend with DH (we use Galloway for marathon training) and I felt great! I was so happy. I ran a half marathon in Manchester, VT on the 6th and it was so hot and humid and very hilly. But it was beautiful! I came in under 2 hrs so I was happy given the weather and course. I have a marathon in Oct. then another one in Nov. Then it is training time for GSC. I found my training program and I am so excited to start it. For the GSC I am going to use the Train Like A Mother plans.

DH and I made our ADR for GSC. Before the half we are doing dinner at Via Napoli and the breakfast after the half is at Grand Floridian Cafe with dinner at Chezf de France. I still have to figure out dinner plans for before the 10k, but we have breakfast at Tusker House after the 10k. I am getting so excited!!!!

In the mean time, we take a family trip in Dec. to Disney so that should hold us over a bit :).

Ok, time to make final preps for class.

BTW, Great job running Tammy!

Can I just put this out there that I am SOOOO unmotivated to go run these days. Injured since mid July after my 25K, then as soon as I was ready to go out there & start training again, I got a horrible chest cold a few weeks ago. I am feeling better this week & my knee is better, but for the life of me I cannot make myself go out & run (or even walk). I think just knowing how much of a setback I will have had is really making me lack the desire to get back out there. I have a 10K next month, supposed to be going to Vegas for RnR 1/2 in Nov & I am unprepared for it all. I am bummed about having to back out of my full in Nov...just need to get my mojo back...quickly. :worried:

Debra~ I am sorry for your injury, but I think you will be surprised by how much you haven't lost. I had major foot surgery and was out for 4 months and it came back quickly. It was a bit slow in the beginning, but I was pleased. Perhaps you can try the book on tape or if you are an NPR fan, downloading an interesting podcast then just tell yourself you are going to walk or run for as long as the podcast lasts. Maybe even download a Disney race or Galloway podcast to get you in the mood. One other thing that really inspires me is watching Spirit of the Marathon (1 or 2).

Good luck!
