I love credit cards so much! v7.0 - 2025 (see first page for add'l details)

This is a known issue when you pay off longer term loans. Your credit score is looking at the mix of debts that you have, how well you pay them off, etc. Now that the DVC loan, car loan, and closed card aren't in the mix, there's less for the system to take into account when giving that score. It's counterintuitive, but true, that paying off big loans hurts your credit temporarily. In the future, if a card gets hacked, have them just send you a new card number, don't close it outright, unless you really no longer want that card. That would have helped his current dip somewhat, but not totally given the two other paid off loans.

For the United card, yes, it would give him more in his credit mix, but it would also be two applications in a really short window, right? So the benefit of having the card may outweigh the cost of new credit being opened so close together. Just having the CSR open for a while and having good payment history on that is going to help bump things back up.

Is there a loan you intend to open in the near future where his credit score is of particular concern right now? Because if there's not, I'd ride on the CSR and give it some time to rebound. Do the United card in your name as planned, then maybe do the next one in his when you're at the next SUB.
We are planning on getting a loan for a new vehicle, probably at the beginning of the year.

Canada/New England on Princess was lovely! Highly recommend it for any cruisers. I really enjoyed Halifax. Our weather was almost perfect. Headed home now via JFK. Going to try the Delta lounge in Terminal 4 concourse B.
DH and I are doing this same cruise leaving Oct 25th. I think it might be the last sailing for the season, but it was the only week that worked for our work schedules.

What did you do in Halifax? We are looking at doing a tour to Peggy's Cove, but don't have anything firmed up. We have to decide what we're doing in all of the ports lol! I'm a bad decision maker. The only thing I know for sure is that we are planning on doing a hop on hop off in Boston. We've never been there and figured it would be a good way to see a variety of things. We are planning on going back there in 2027 for a longer time to see our baseball team play the Red Sox, so I know we'll be back.

We did the Peggy’s cove/titanic cemetery half day tour through Viator. It was very good but the tour guide wasn’t the best (not bad, just not great). The ship docked an hour late so having a private excursion was a bit of a pain (everyone wanted to get off at the same time).

The ship and crew were fabulous. I was impressed. Cruise director is basically a comedian.

And end of October should be great for fall foliage!

Went to Lulu to spend our two $75 credits today. There was a couple there getting two sets of GCs which was causing enough trouble to take down two of the three open registers. It was annoying. I bought DH a pair of shorts and DD was more than happy to spend the other credit on something she wanted. Easy-Peasy! Resy is much more of a challenge for me.

Use that map I linked, it's worked for 20$ increments. I just did a 100$ because I won't be able to go in the next 9 days. It hasn't posted, but I won't worry until the end of the month.

Thank you for the map. There isn't anything really nearby other than one place I like - went today and they said they can't get their gift cards working (as in, can't seem to load money onto the cards) or something like that. :( There are 2 places I could go to, but we're leaving town and they aren't nearby so I may end up missing this one.

no problem if anyone else saw it here, im sure they would post. I'm still waiting for my 100$ credit
🤞

I got a CIC in August. Do all new CICs have the 0% interest for 12 months? I was thinking of splitting my payment (estimated tax payment) over a few months but not sure if I have this. Do I need to SM to find out?

My AF was charged on my Amex Plat Biz. I only got charged the $695. I asked for a retention offer and was offered to pay it with my points "at a special rate" 69,500 points. I declined that and then they offered 15,000 points for 5k spend in 3 months. I declined, but I would be able to spend that without issue and I am not currently working on any other subs. WWYD?

It all depends on if you were planning to keep the card anyway. You could ask them again and the 15k offer is gone or it could be a better offer or it could be a worse offer.

I always go into a chat about retention knowing my answer because the offer could go away. In the past I've gotten them when I planned to keep the card. I may ask for one on my plat sooner than later if I decide to keep the card. Still not sure what to do.

I haven't seen any recent (past few months) dps of plat retention. It seems more in line with what I've seen them evolve to on the last couple of years. The high retention offers during covid haven't popped back up.

I didn't have one on my gold before the af hit and when I chatted to cancel it was never brought up, there was no effort to keep me from canceling, which was actually nice

I am not sure if I should keep the card. Hard to decide, the Dell credit being less sucks and I likely will not use the credit for Fine Resorts and Hotels. I really wish the everyday spend on the card was better.

I would only consider keeping it if I could use the FHR credit at the lower AF. It would still be a hard decision. MaxFHR is helpful for ideas.

My resy tracker shows I've spent 100. Got two $50 gc for different restaurants that hopefully I'll use next spring. No email or credit yet.

Also seen people's lulu tracker has moved from gc. I'll go to the mall Saturday to get one.

yep I see my 100$ resy credit used under benefits, but the Lululemon doesn't show there yet. Also, I didn't get the email for Resy or Lululemon.

Not really CC related, but I always think this is the best place to ask for travel advice. DH and I are planning a different anniversary trip than our normal WDW for May 2026. We weren't able to go on the planned Alaskan cruise this year with my parents and sisters, so our travel agent allowed us to take the money we had already paid toward it and apply it to another one, so we booked a quick cheap 3 day cruise. Then the plan is to go to Universal as soon as we get back from the cruise. Is the best option to take the cruise bus back to MCO from Port Canaveral, then get on a bus from MCO to Universal? I am open to better suggestions if there are any. This will be our first time to Universal so we have no idea how to plan. I'm looking at staying at either Hard Rock or Royal Pacific since they have the included Express Passes. How many days should we go there? We aren't interested in the Water Park, so just the 3 theme parks. After leaving Universal, we want to spend the rest of our vacation at WDW until we head home Saturday night. What's the best way to get from Universal to Disney? I guess what I am asking is how good of a plan is this? I can modify anything except the cruise portion. We have DVC & WDW AP's, so Disney always feels like a "free" vacation, Universal will cost us completely out of pocket so I don't want to spend more time (or money) than we need to there.

As of now, I am thinking:
Thursday, 4/30/26 - Fly to MCO, stay at Hyatt MCO
Friday, 5/1/26-Monday 5/4/26 - MCO to Port Canaveral for 3 Day Cruise
Monday, 5/4/26-Thursday, 5/7/26 - head to Universal (or should we leave Wednesday for WDW?)
Thursday, 5/7/26-Saturday, 5/9/26 - WDW
Saturday, 5/9/26 - Fly Home on 7:40 pm flight
