Philly contractor beheaded by Islamic militants

I think this whole situation is very sad. We do not know if they really would have killed him without the publizied (sp) abuse, but it does not matter. My heart goes out to his family for their loss.

I feel that all the talk in the media about the photos needs to stop. Enough is enough already, you don't have to keep showing them over and over again. My feeling about it , now please bear with me if I am "wrong", is that all these photos could turn this into another Vietnam. If I am not mistaken, there was a lot of support for our troops until the images of innocent women and children being killed were shown in the news. The soldiers were then booed and tormented when they returned in "disgrace." I am so afraid that if the pictures continued to be shown, that will happen again.

A few brief thoughs,
First a prayer for this victom and his family. One thing to be killed in combat or by an errant bullet, another to be murdered.
Lets see the worlds reaction. Is it as loud as their complaints about the US(yes the mental cruelty that the jailers did was wrong but we didnt behead anyone)?
If there is no real reaction it means we should re evaluate our relationship with the world not only as a government but also as consumers. Why should we help others that tend to hate us, why should we buy their products or travel to their countries. Lets help the few places that at least dont celebrate our hurts. Remember what happens in the next few days, remember that when you vote, remember that when you shop or donate to charities. Remember the picture of this mans head being held up for the camera.

Thank you Dan.

SM, are you trying to tell everyone who speaks out in outrage of this incident, that we don't have sympathy for others who have been killed?

If that's what you're saying, you need to grow up a bit. You're a 17 or 18 year old child who has seen nothing of this world.

Please do not presume to lecture those who have grown through experience and have matured by watching world events through the years.

With all due respect, yours is a teenage, immature (in experiences) approach. Not reality.

SM---You're right that this horrible incident is not unexpected. The Islamic fundamentalists have shown us their brutality before, with the bombings of the embassies in Africa, the murder of Daniel Pearl and of course the wholesale slaughter of innocent lives on 9/11. This is just a reminder of what zealotry renders people capable of.

Dan---Thank you for making the distinction between intentional and unintentional killing so eloquently.

I would hope that the U.S. never sinks to the level of our enemies. The prisoner abuses was a step in that direction, so I am glad that we as a people have responded so strongly against what happened, and that our government has reacted by changing conditions in the prisons and bringing perpetrators to justice.

I think Nicholas Berg was in Iraq for all the right reasons, and I'm disappointed that U.S. officials didn't do more to help him to get out of the country. If they didn't think he should be there, they shouldn't have let him enter in the first place. Seems like we should look out for our own people over there, whether they are military or civilian. What an ordeal for his family.

Thank you Dan. After I watched the horrifying news last night for once in my life I was speechless. All I could think of (and this is the truth) was I can't wait to get to work, log onto the DIS and see what Dan Murphy has to say!!! And let me tell you, your words have not disappointed me. You are truly gifted with how you write.

SM, I don't agree with your statements.

I know we are at war and with war come casualities. My heart and prayers go out to every family who lost someone. However, the beheaded on tape of this innocent man is so awful I feel like I need to do something. What, I don't know.

And yes, this action I believe was done because of the treatment of the Iraqi prisoners by our soldiers. I hope they get the punishment they deserve as others are suffering because of their actions.

Truly awful:mad:

I too am sickened by this. I do not condone how we treated the Iraqi Prisoners but this is an eye for an eye?

His poor family! Horrendous.

God Bless Nick Berg & his family.
