Philly contractor beheaded by Islamic militants

So basically, they tried to blackmail the military. Don't pursue charges against this particular scumbag, because he's our family member, and we won't go to the press. In that case I'm glad the story broke. I would rather have all this public than let anyone involved get off lightly. I hope they throw them all in the darkest hole in the Leavenworth basement for as long as the law allows.

They are a bunch of lunitics just using the soldier abuse scandle as an excuse. What about all the other attrocities they committed, what is the excuse for those?

That's what I thought Grog. Let's try and get our kid out of trouble. Oh, that doesn't work, let's call the media.

Guess what Sgt. Frederick's family. It backfired. Your son will end up in Leavenworth.

You all should be so proud.

I hope there is at least just as much outrage of this horrific murder (and the 4 who where brutally killed in Fallujah) as there was for the photos of humiliation (not torture) done by a handful of horrible humans on prisoners.

There probably won't be.

It's sickening. It's terrible. I'm at a loss for words.

I just think the 'people' who killed this guy are just part of the slime garbage who act as religious, vengeful fanantics. And politicians and media alike use these things, anything, to further their causes and bottom lines.

It's really sick how they twist a religion around too, and make everyone who follows it look bad. They have taken something that was meant to bring peace and calm into peoples lives, twisted it into their own sick crusade as an excuse to torture and kill.

I read a story today about a Palestiniant teen who had bombs strapped to his chest who went to a security building to try and find someone to defuse the bombs before he was killed. What sort of sick people would put an unwilling teenage boy out as a suicide bomber? It's beyond me.

I'm with you Grog, I consider it blackmail.
I have really mixed feelings. I'm glad the Abu Graib story came out, so that prisoner abuse will stop. But on the other hand I hate that it has made all the other honorable soldiers serving our country even bigger targets of hatred.

My heart aches for that family... their grieving process will be so much longer than the normal family who lose a member.

My stomach is just in knots over all this mess. I don't have answers... I can only cry and pray for those directly involved.

Nick Berg in a family photo.

Berg's mother, Suzanne Berg, said her son was in Iraq as an independent businessman to help rebuild communication antennas. Berg owned a communications equipment company, Prometheus Methods Tower Service Inc., she said.

"He had this idea that he could help rebuild the infrastructure," she said.

Thanks for posting that nice photo Dan. I turned off the TV hours ago because I couldn't stand seeing him kneeling down in front of those murderers just seconds before his death.

I was just at another website I frequent - Northeast Intelligence Agency - and they provided a link to the full video, along with a warning that it is extremely gruesome. There is no way I would ever want to see it, and I really hope his family doesn't have to either.:(

thanks for the picture Dan, I wish this is the one they would show on TV. I was working all day and just got home and logged on to the dis so I had missed all of this. Thanks for the warning, now I know our TV will be on cable stations if it is on at all tonight.

:sad1:

How sad for his family. I can't even imagine what they are going through.

:sad1: I just had come and vent...I'm here trying to cook dinner with the local news on and can't escape this story. I wasn't even watching it, just listening, and just hearing the description of his brutal death brought me to hyserical tears. I threw up. I can't even imagine actually seening the video. Thankfully, US TV won't run it (at least I hope they won't).

Not only was he brutally murdered, but it was torture as well...sickening.:sad1:

God bless his family and give them strength to carry on...

I pray our country will come together and be outraged by this...as we should be.

Wow, seeing who he was in life is so sad. The whole thing is so tragic, especially since he was such a young guy with a whole lifetime ahead of him. I really hope his family decides not to watch that awful video. As a mother, knowing how my child had died would eat me up, but to see it would be a thousand times worse. (God knows I'm not going to watch it). They need to focus on his life and their memories of him and try and block out how he died. Not so easy, I'm sure...

I, too, am just sick over what has happened. My heart goes out to his family. I hope no other person has to go through this.

What this makes me feel and think is beyond my abilities to express.

I agree with Grog, that family was trying to blackmail the US Army and I'm glad it didn't work. He deserves punishment and his family should be ashamed for trying to blackmail the army.

Let's all remember the many men/women, military & civilian, who have been killed for what ever the "cause" was that day.

Unfortunately, the prisoner treatment excuse is the current one.

God bless the families who must carry on after witnessing the pictures that we have the "right" to view.

It all breaks my heart.

How sad - prayers for his family.

It's also sad if you read the story - he was not being protected by our military. OUR military even had him in custody over there! What's that all about? I realize that he was a contractor, but with whom? How did he even get into the country? The article went on to say that he was going to come on home since he couldn't find work over there. WHAT?! Seems to me, private citizens shouldn't be there if they aren't working on a particular project.
