Hi Guys,

Well, I finished the last double-digit run prior to Disney; 10.5 miles on the gym treadmill. The roads were clear yesterday and the temps were in the 40s so I had no excuse not to be running outside, but I think I am now addicted to watching TV while I run.:happytv: I am trying to figure out how to carry a portable DVD player with me during the marathon :scratchin

Woke up to 7 new inches of snow this morning (and it's still snowing); I have now classified shoveling snow as "Cross-Training."

Welcome Howard. I'm also new to the MCM/Philly group.

Happy New Year!

Be good and be safe on this New Year's Eve ;) Well, I guess being bad is OK, just be safe!

Um...Theta - Glad you'r back in one piece & had fun. Uh, what's a Theta???:rotfl2:

:rotfl:

Theta is:

a. the dish made from curdled goat's milk that my grandmother used to make on New Years Day.

b. my middle name:)

c. Theta Apex - the original name of Space Mountain before a focus group kept asking, "Uh, what's a Theta???":confused3

d. the symbol commonly used in trigonometry to denote an angle despite students continually asking, "Uh, what's a Theta???":thumbsup2

Actually, I originally wanted Alpha, Mu or Omega, but they were already used.;)

... the two races close to each other (PHL & MCM) in the fall. When WDW rolls around for 2009, I will not be Goofying it, I will cut back to only the Marathon.

Howard

Hey Howard, that is so great you can see the end of the grad school tunnel!:worship:

And wow, you have MCM, Philly and Disney on the docket.:worship:

Can't wait to see you and your lovely bride again in a few weeks!:thumbsup2

Colleen

SilverSteve, you are doing Goofy too? Is this your first time?

Where/when was your last marathon?

Jodi, are you enjoying your 2 month taper since MCM? ;) :rolleyes1 My training for 2007 Goofy was less than lackluster after I saw the 80 degree temperatures last year, I was glad I didn't sweat the training for that race.

Sara, are you feeling? Are you ready to do this?

Mike, did you ever get the second 20 miler in?

Chester, is this the first marathon for your DS?

Lou, a "bunch of 5-8 milers", doesn't sound like coasting to me. Good job staying healthy!

So many questions, I feel like I am completely out of the loop. Can't wait to get back into a routine.

Colleen - Hello

Jodi - I'm with you on the flu shots. It seems like everyone I know that gets one ends up getting the flu. I'm with you...lets get to WDW and do this thing!

Steve - It feels good to be finished with the double digits runs, doesn't it? I'm coasting into WDW as well. I added a new cross training excercise today as well...raking wet leaves. All this running has allowed leaves to pile up all over the house. I found out toda that raking wet leaves is a pretty good workout.

Howard - I hope to see you in Philly 2008. I'm sure we'll cross paths in another local event because Wilmington is almost my second home. I do a lot of work there.

Sara - I'm also getting psyched for WDW!

Cindy, Dave and anyone else I missed...HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

I'm kind of coasting now. I'll do a bunch of 5-8 mile runs this week but I'm taking it easy now. I'm just looking forward to getting to WDW with no injuries.

Just took care of my final ADR's for the trip...

Sat - hanging out with a bunch of family at MK and eating at Liberty Tree.
Sun (post marathon) - Le Cellier @ 7:50PM - That's after I limp around the World Showcase sampling the world's beers.
Mon - PrimeTime Cafe - DW's birthday dinner as well.
Tue - Yaki and Yeti and then it's time to come home.

It's starting to sink in now that the holidays are almost over.

Hey Everyone!!

I hope everyone had a great Christmas and HAPPY NEW YEAR to allparty:

Back to the real world for a bit until next week's fun! We spent the weekend at the "sitting on your a**-fest" at my parent's. Between that and the guest bed from beyond Hell (shhh! Don't tell Mom and Dad), it's wonderful to see them but nice to be home.

Colleen - You get a funky Greek symbol name and get all seeing into the future on us?
You say on post #924
Lou, a "bunch of 5-8 milers", doesn't sound like coasting to me. Good job staying healthy!
Then, on post #925 Lou says
I'm kind of coasting now. I'll do a bunch of 5-8 mile runs this week but I'm taking it easy now.
What gives? Can you tell me what I'm going to say next? Is Jodi going to sound like Eeyore without his Prozac in her next post (OK, that's too easy!)? What's the FL weather going to be for the races? What are the Virginia lottery numbers for this weekend?

Howard - Glad you are officially joining this rag-tag group of merry runners! I'm looking forward to meeting you next week.

Steve
- I'm sure you could rig up some sort of over-the-shoulder harness to hold your DVD player. Or maybe just look for someone in the pace groups that you can velcro the unit onto and follow them!:happytv:

Well, I decided to bag my last 20 miler in favor of 14 miles this morning. I figure that's enough.

I wore my running tights for the first time and liked them a lot. DD11, however, was less than thrilled with the idea of dear old dad possibly being seen by someone she knows and DW said "You didn't wear shorts over them?!?:scared1:

I'll try to get one more double-digit run in over the weekend.

I'm still torn about my pace for the full. I guess I'll wait until race morning to see how I feel after the half.

Later!

Good Morning Everyone:

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! To all my friends here...

I'm getting ready to run the New Year's Resolution 7.5 mile race this morning. It's about 35 degrees, and big white fluffy falkes are coming down fast. I've been able to keep my running up over the holiday. Actually, it's been fun being able to run and know I don't have to squeeze it in to rush back to work or rush home or something. It's been very relaxing. I've been able to average about 20 miles or so/week.

Christmas and my birthday were great. I got some new running clothes - cold weather tights that are wonderful.

OK, enjoy the last day of holiday break (boo hoo!), and enjoy getting those last steps in before Disney. Have fun!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Watched "Twilight Zone" marathon, played scrabble & went to bed @ 12:03 this am...was anyone elses New Year as COOOL as mine:rotfl2: ?

Theta - Ok, I'll buy your definitions...but the grandpa recipes sounds a little too canadian to me;) , glad you're back safe...and YES, I've been enjoying my 2 month taper, thank you very much:cloud9: .

Mike - Eeyonre's like a dang inspirational speaker compared to me!! No 20 mile run??? NICE, welcome to the dark side!!:rolleyes1

Steve - If you were like my kid you could just play movies "in your head" while you run....don't ask:confused3 .

Dave - SO glad you've been running (more than me)...I think there's still a bib available out there!!

Lou - Looks like you've got all your ADRs ready for some post carboloading...while you're @ LeCellier I'll be driving 100mph trying to the airport trying to catch a plane!:rotfl:

Sara - Hi:rolleyes1

Cindy - Hey, I wanna go to away w/ my hubby for 5 days... . Have fun!!!!!

Chester - Are you & the family all set to drive up?

OK, don't we all need to post our bib #s or something?? How do we (or do we even try) find eachother in the a.m.? We may not even be in the same corral, right? or in the same color? OK, I'm done!

SilverSteve, you are doing Goofy too? Is this your first time? Where/when was your last marathon?

My one and only marathon was the 1991 MCM; that is why I wandered into your original thread. And no, that was not a typo: 1991. Ahh, to be 24 again; the days before gels, Clif bars, "moisture-wicking", and mp3 players. (OK, actually I like all those things).

So, yes, I am going Goofy, albeit slowly; probably a lot of walk breaks. I have two surgically repaired knees which like to remind me to take walk breaks when mileage gets above 10 or so.

I do want to run (continuously) Philly next year; my deep-down secret wish is to get in the shape of my life, train like a freak, break 4:00 for Philly, and perhaps retire to half-marathons and below.

Happy taper! :smickey:

Good point. I would like to say "Hi" during those ungodly early hours in the dark parking lot before we are herded to our holding cells. I believe I'm in Blue Corral C for the Full.

I am on the blue start, corral B. Steve and Jodi, we are meeting just inside the portapotty holding area. Last year we met just to the left as you enter. After we complain for an hour or so...:chat: we can walk the .75 mile to the corrals together. This is where we met up with MSDave last year. Thank goodness we did, Dave, you, Melissa and SteelersSteve were a Godsend!

I forgot to post about my 20 miler. I did it on December 17th, walked 1.5 miles/ran .5 miles and finished in 4:28. Hopefully I can keep it together for those last 6.2 miles and finish under 6 hours.:thumbsup2

Oh, Mike, as I look into my crystal ball, things are a little foggy, but....I see there will be no need for you to wear your new running tights for Disney. Kathy and DD will be happy!:)

Jodi, Twilight Zone marathon? What channel was that on? Wait, don't tell me.....

Happy New Year!!

Colleen :wave2: Welcome back!! Glad to see you made it back safely and that you got a bit of training in during your absence. Nice job on the 20 miler:banana: .

Howard - So glad you'll be joining us in Philly:hug: . I knew it would be kind of hard to resist with the proximity and all:thumbsup2 . Congrats on nearly being done with grad school:woohoo: Please give Cam my love:love: and I'm looking forward to meeting Jennifer at WDW!

Steve - :rotfl2: about the TV addiction while running. We're feeling your pain with the snow as well and shoveling is awesome XT'ing:goodvibes

Lou - Taking it easy from here on out sounds like the best approach:thumbsup2 . Your ADR's look great:)

Mike - Thanks again for making me :lmao: . Sorry, but I have to agree with DD & DW. I know I do the spandex shorts solo but I prefer not to see men in tights:confused: Glad you cranked out 14 miles and are good with that:cheer2: .

Dave - I hope your race went well this morning:woohoo: . It really is nice to have the luxury of time over the holidays to devote to the things that bring us pleasure. You will definitely be at WDW in spirit you know:grouphug: .

Jodi - I get your son completely. I play visuals in my head when I run - accompanied by some choice iPod tune selections:lmao: . That's the real reason I don't appreciate the distractions:confused: See, my avatar shows my smile captured during a "good scene:thumbsup2 ." Your New Year's Eve lasted about 4 hours longer than mine did:confused3 . Colleen has already posted about the meeting site for the full. You won't miss the WISH pack.

Cindy - Jamaica sounds like a dream:cloud9: . I hope you guys have an awesome time:thumbsup2 .

Runs have been good and I am just trying to rest up and stay healthy for next week. I may have to go to the doctor's this week to get my ears checked because they may be infected and I can't fly like that...my stupid dairy allergies have had them filled with fluid for weeks now and I can't ignore it much longer.

Happy tapering to all this week - See you all NEXT WEEK:cheer2:

I'm scared!! My bib # is 9133 & I don't know what color I am or how to find you guys:eek: . I'm drawn to the portapottys instinctively, but once there, how will I find anyone?:scared1:

Jodi, girl, we will take care of you! Just after you drop off your gear bag, you will be directed into the portapotty holding area. Just look to your left and there will be a sea of green WISH shirts, we will be there! Right now you are in Corral C with on the Blue start, but you can get that changed.

If Disney uses the same way they base chutes last year, here is what it will look like:

Blue:

A 101-2000
B 4001-6000
C 8001-10000

Red:

D 2001-4000
E 6001-8000
F 10001-12000
G 12001-14000
H 14001-16000

So when is everyone arriving into MCO? I am getting in Friday around 1 p.m.

So when is everyone arriving into MCO? I am getting in Friday around 1 p.m.

Theta Beta Gamma Epsilon- We're Thursday mid-morning. Don't know the exact time.

Sara - Get better soon. BTW: From my experience, dairy is much more tolerable if you put it in your mouth vs. your ears. See how that works for you;) . No men in tights, huh? I guess I'll have to rethink my wardrobe selection for the race. Maybe I'll just wear them to Spoodles Saturday night.:thumbsup2

Jodi - Did I read it wrong? You want Bruce to go to the islands with Cindy? I don't think this is the forum you're looking for!

Oh, and STOP SPAZZING!!

Steve - You sure you want to get mixed up with this crowd?

Colleen - There is a post somewhere on the competition thread Robert started that contained the corrals for 2008. You can probably see them on his website also. We're in MCO Friday around noon.

Michael - I would totally PMP :rotfl2: if you were sporting tights:lmao: Speaking of the wrong forum for elaborating on that one:confused: I won't even start on the sticking things in my mouth vs my ears:angel: ?!

Jodi - Remember my BRIGHT WISH shirt? Well, there should be a mass of them congregating by the port-o-potties b4 the full. If you come to the Pop meet and are social you could most likely hook up with a BW buddy to get to the start with. That's how Colleen and I met:hug: .

Steve - I love your goal for Philly. I am totally impressed:worship: with your aspirations considering the knee issues.

I am going to the doctor's today for my ears since I can't take it any longer. I had a great 4 miler on the TM this morning followed by some yoga.

Happy tapering to all:cheer2:

Morning Phillanators!

Back to work again. I did have a very restful 4 days off with a bit less running than I would have liked, but sometimes, ya just gotta give in to the laziness! My official training for the National Half starts Jan. 21 (the day I get back from Jamaica), so I'll have to get my act together soon. I think I am going to try for a 2 hour half - that's pretty aggressive for me, so I'll have to see how the training goes. I also think losing 10 pounds would help (supposedly, you can run about 2 seconds faster per mile for every pound lost), but we will have to see how motivated I can get myself about that one.

I did manage to run 4.5 miles this morning in CRAZY wind. Wind chill was 17 degrees with winds over 20 mph (I haven't gotten around to joining the gym yet). It was actually a pretty good run.

Howard - HI! Glad to have another person in for Philly.

Dave - I hope your race went well!

Colleen - Welcome back!

Sara - I hope everything at the doctors goes well.

Steve - I'm laughing at the image of you hiring someone to run in front of you with a DVD player strapped to their back.

Lou - Let me know how Yak and Yeti is. I am planning on planning my ADRs for my August WDW trip while lying on the beach in Jamaica.

Chester - Hope you are having an easy taper after all the miles you put in recently.

I wore my running tights for the first time and liked them a lot. DD11, however, was less than thrilled with the idea of dear old dad possibly being seen by someone she knows and DW said "You didn't wear shorts over them?!?:scared1:
:rotfl: My DH is required to wear shorts (or loose pants) over his tights.

Watched "Twilight Zone" marathon, played scrabble & went to bed @ 12:03 this am...was anyone elses New Year as COOOL as mine:rotfl2: ?

Mine was just as cool, except no scrabble for me - DH takes FOREVER to make words and it drives me crazy. Instead we played a new board game that he got me for Christmas called Ticket to Ride. Its pretty fun. It won the award for Best board game in Germany in 2004. For some reason I find that funny. We also watched some episodes of House on DVD. Going out on New Year's is just too much of a pain.
