Dave - Oh man, you had me rolling' this a.m. "vacation from Hades":lmao: . Unfortunately, when family members are crammed together for long periods of time, this can happne. We've done trips to DW w/ my entire family, (my 3 siblings, spouses, kids,...you get the idea), & even the happiest place on earth can't make it all good. It's just too many people w/ too many ideas.
But on the brighter side of things, a cruise was born of this debacle. I'm soooo excited for you & your family!!!! Your wife is gonna love it, guaranteed! I've only been on a 3 night & 4 night Disney cruise, the first in 11/04, but it truly is a relaxing vacation. Depending on the the girls' personality, they should be fine, do the cabins adjoin? Anyhow, enjoy, indulge & don't worry one bit about "training". Consider the cruise 4 days of carbo-loading:rotfl: . Get home safe & have a blast!! We'll be waiting for a reportpopcorn:: .

Chester - Hello. Good to hear from you. UGH!! Did you say 7 miles today & 11 tomorrow?? That's heinous...I'm not sure I can speak w/ you, you are far too trained for me:rotfl2: :thumbsup2 . Interesting about your shoes. I never thought I'd be able to tell the difference before I started running, but there sure is. Glad to see you switched back to old reliabe, I hope your knee & shins cooperate this weekend. Good Luck

Sara - Ok, so now the truth comes out. You're a buff gym-rat from Lake George....It's all starting to fall in place now:laughing: I take it back, please don't beat me up:scared1: . I only wish I had your dedication, but other things just seem to get in the way:happytv: :confused3 :surfweb: :coffee: :rolleyes1 . No excuses. Like my husband always likes to say "pain is weakness leaving the body". Oh please, go re-enlist!:lmao:

Colleen - You ok down there? Perhpas you're off to a cooler climate this weekend? Don't come up here, it's miserable.

OK, I'm not running today. I swam for 30m yesterday, resting today & I'll do my LR tomorrow a.m. Think I'll do 8. No matter how hard I prayed to Earl, he just didn't listen, it is suuuper sticky out this a.m. & I'm staying in the AC!

OK, just a quick drive-by post about my LR.

I did 10 miles in 1:31:15 min/9:07 mpm pace! :cool1:

Whoo hoo, I had a great LR today!

Dave--WTG on your LR! You were flying! Are you shooting for sub-4 in DC? All I know is that you're cranking out way faster long runs than I am at this point.

Nice job!

Steve

:cool1: :cool1: Wow, Dave that LR was awesome! Hope you have a fab time on the cruise. I am sure DW will love it.

Jodi, happy rest day today.

Chester, good luck with your back to back runs this weekend.:scared: I could barely muster one LR today.

Steve, wow, you are really cranking out the miles. Has it cooled off in your neck of the woods yet? Still hotter than Hades here. So much so, I had to run 12 miles on the treadmill today...ouch, it has been a LOOONg time since I ran over 6 miles inside, but I just couldn't hack the heat and humidity this morning.

In any event, I did get 12 miles in this afternoon and I am now icing and stretching. I tried to cycle a bit after the 12, but my knee started locking up, I took that to mean I needed to go home and order Thai food.:rolleyes1 My time was a steady 10 mpm pace, I tried to increase speed and elevation periodically so I wouldn't get too bored, finished in 2:01.

Hi Sara, what did you have planned for today?

We need to track down OptiMike too!

Colleen - You know what they say, "the best laid plans..." I had to swap out LR's this weekend due to family commitments and my friend having surgery. I did 8 today and will do my 16 next weekend. I guess that's not a bad thing since it's supposed to be cooler next weekend so I will be able to run outside. I did a steady 9:40 mpm on the TM. Great job on your LR:cheer2: . I hope your Thai food was yummy:thumbsup2

Dave - Awesome time on your 10 miles today:banana: I hope your cruise more than makes up for the cottage debacle.

Jodi - I run in Asics Gel Nimbus. I have really high arches and underpronate. They probably have a bit too much cushioning for me but I like them a lot. I probably shouldn't tell you that I have 5 pairs of shoes in my running rotation at this point:confused3 . The Asics, two pairs of Brooks Epiphany's, Mizu0a Wave Riders and Saucony somthings. Best of luck on your LR tomorrow:cool1: I hope the humidity breaks for you by then. I'll send up some prayers to Earl:)

Chester - Thanks so much for checking in. Glad to hear the training's going well for you. I hope the shin splints resolve quickly:wizard: .

Happy training to all this week:cheer2:

Dave -
Thanks for the welcome. I hope your cruise was everything you expected and more.

Come on and join Tracy and me in Honolulu in 2009. I picked this marathon out because I heard that there is no time limit/minimum pace requirement.

Jodi -
The mileage only goes up from here on out. This week:

Tuesday 4 miles
Wednesday 8 miles
Thursday 4 miles
Saturday 8 miles
Sunday 17 miles

Sara -
The shin splints realy don't have an effect on my running, I just notice that the inside of my shins below the calf muscle and along the bone are tender to the touch when I get home.

Colleen -
I really like the back-to-back runs that are in the Higdon intermediate I schedule. I think they will help for the Goofy in January.

Happy training to all.

Chester

Let me just say first off, that I hate Earl.

OK, ran 60 mins. this afternoon in the blazing sun. UGH, I don't know how far I went b/c I was delerious from heat exhaustion, running in circles. I promise I won't complain in the winter that it's too cold, just stop the heat, Earl, PLEASE.

Chester So it's the Hal Higdon you follow. I was going to do that, too, but it was too much running for me:rotfl: , so I stuck w/ Marathoning for Mortals. It worked so well for me b4, so....I'm trying to squeeze in more speed work, but...:rotfl2: You're running the Goofy, also, huh?:scared1:

Sara - The humidity didn't break, but thanks for trying. I'm going to glaze right over the 5 pair of shoes thing, I expected nothing less. I need to get another pair of sneakers this weekend (birthday $ well spent). Nice job on that 8 miler.:woohoo: What other workout stuff did you do? Weights, Yoga, Pilates??

Colleen - 12 miles on the DREADmill! You deserve a medal just for that:yay: . The furthest I've ever gone on one of those things is 8 miles. Mind numbing!! You can only hope that someone with a heinous odor doesn't settle in for a long session next to you. But I guess it's beats passing out on the street from dehydration.

Hope you're having fun on your cruise, Dave!

You can only hope that someone with a heinous odor doesn't settle in for a long session next to you. But I guess it's beats passing out on the street from dehydration!

OMG, about a year ago there was a man, about 50ish, who frequented the gym and he had THE most foul smelling odor EVER! :faint: I would dry heave just walking by him...needless to say I would do weights the days he was in the cardio area.:sad2:

I cross trained today. 40 minutes on the stairclimber, 20 minutes bike and a few weights. Tomorrow I have speed work. Oh, did I mention....the kids are back in school! :cool1: :dance3: :cheer2:  :cool1: Hear ye, hear ye, I shall now begin serious marathon training.

Jodi, an hour outside, awesome, but I just couldn't do it. I would faint in the heat. Yesterday's 2 hour ordeal was miserable, but I was alive and well for the rest of day. If I ran that outside at 96 degrees, I would have been out of it for the rest of the day.

Wow, Chester, over 40 miles this week. You sure put my marathon training (or lack thereof) to shame. I think I got 25 miles in last week.

Sara, yes this week is a new week and I am sure your 16 miler will more than make up for this past weekend. Yes, Thai food was yummy, much better that "chic Thai" place we went to in Chicago and 1/4 the cost.

Dave, thinking of you on the ship sipping on foofoo drinks!:beach:

Hey All !!!

Extended leave of absence that included most of a week in Wisconsin, a week home but under a self imposed media ban to avoid Harry Potter spoilers, then 3 weeks at Vero Beach/WDW.

We are probably to only family left that doesn't have a lap-top for on the go connectivity (can't afford one since we gave all our money to Disney).

It's great to see how well everyone is doing with training. Unfortunately, it only reinforces the fact that I'm in deep, deep trouble! Extended vacations are not ideal for scheduled training.

I did manage to get in a couple of runs a week, but nothing longer than 6 miles. Ughh! The 17 mile LR this week will most likely get a significant cut.

Keep up the good work everyone!!

Welcome back Mike. Wow, you have had busy summer. But you still have time to pull everything together for the marathon. That is what I am telling myself, because my training this summer has been lacking.

Guess what, I went for a massage today. Boy did I need it. My piriformus (sp) was soooo tight. My massage therapist said my back, glut, piriformus were causing my leg, knee, IT band problems. I booked another massage for Thursday in hopes that everything will be worked out for my LR this weekend.

As for LRs, what do people have on for this weekend?

Colleen The massage just sounds heavenly:cloud9: !! I definitely suffer from chronic tightness in that area on my left side. My sciatic nerve is always acting up as a result:sad2: . I hope you are able to get all residual tightness out during Thursday's massage and your LR over the weekend is nirvana:cheer2: . I am doing my 16 miles on Saturday:woohoo: . Yeah for the kiddos being back in school:cool1: .

Mike Why are you posting at 2:00 in the morning:confused:? I am going to WDW from 9/22-10/1 and I am so afraid of it messing up my training plan. My family is just plain scared of me if I can't run:rotfl: . Best of luck on how ever many miles you manage to tackle on your LR this weekend:banana: .

Jodi - I am still praying to Earl for you:wizard: . It's going to be a gorgeous weekend here so I hope you get the same kind of weather. Yesterday I did 1 hr of yoga in the a.m. and 1 hr in the p.m. Speedwork this morning. It is a step back week for me so more XT'ing this week.

Dave I hope the high seas are magical for you:thumbsup2 .

Chester - IIRC, I used Higdon's intermediate training plan for Goofy also. I used it for Goofy in 2006 and it served me well. However, I have since come to my senses, as I believe Colleen has, and have no desire to repeat the 39.3:lmao: . Best of luck to you with Goofy training:cheer2: !!

::yes::

Finishing 39.3 miles in 85 degrees and a gazillion % humidity was quite enough for me.

Mike - WOW, that's quite the whirlwind summer you've had. Glad to be home??? Now start training!!:rotfl: Don't worry, I'll bet your LR feels fine this weekend.

Colleen - You've inspired me to go dump stupid $$ that I don't have on a massage this weekend. The guy I go to is a massage therapist/accupunturist & is unreal with his little voodoo-doll needles & knowledge. Perhaps he can get rid of this slightly nagging thing going on in my right heel - I know it's due to a tight calf, but can't seem to massage it loose myself. And it all started from trying to go fast the other Saturday...see, speed is not only tough, but it's just not good for you:lmao: Glad to hear your session went well, keep us updated after tomorrow's follow-up.

Sara - OK, not only can I not speak w/ you 'cause you're a fitness guru, but now you're going to DW, too???? Am I the only loser not headed down there this fall? Yesterday I did 1 hr of yoga in the a.m. and 1 hr in the p.m. Speedwork this morning. It is a step back week for me so more XT'ing this week. This is a stepback week's schedule? That's it, this conversation is over! Oh yeh, first let me thank you - Earl shall be kind this weekend here, as well. I'm doing a 16 miler on Sat, too. What time are you going? I think I'll start around 6 a.m.

OK, ya'll are scaring me about the Goofy thing:sad1: . Is it really that heinous?? I know you guys had brutal weather last year. Earl can be cruel, but hopefully if I sacrifice a few small mammals:scared1: a few days b4 he'll make is 20 degrees like the year b4.

I'm not going to ask your advice Sara, 'cause you'll have me hanging upside down from the rafters doing reverse sit ups. But Colleen, how did you train for Goofy last year?? And please don't tell me it was Hal Higdon:eek: .

Chester - Start thinking cold now.

Jodi - I am so sorry. Honestly, I didn't know you were training for Goofy. I ran it the year it was nice and cool. I will definitely be praying for cold temps in January. Give me throw away clothes any day over the alternative. I will also be headed out around 6 a.m. on Saturday so I will be with you in spirit:hug: . I am dropping off a prescription today for an asthma inhaler so I am not cursing outside on the LR. I've had it for months and just haven't gotten it filled. I must enjoy complaining about not being able to breath outside when I run in humidity:confused3 . Goofy is doable for the average mortal. Don't sweat the training too much. Your back-to-back long runs are the key:thumbsup2 .

Hi, I wish I could say I am training for this one, but as you know I will be running it next year!!!

In my first class of the semester last night, I found out that my friend and classmate, Jenn, is running in the MCM this year. She said her training is coming along, but she is suffering from shin splints, blisters, etc. Her feet were bandaged last night, etc. This will be her first marathon.

I told her there were a bunch of WISH'ers running in this race and that hopefully, there will be a nice group of us (including me) next year at the MCM.

Good luck everyone!

:grouphug:

Howard

Sara - I do the night shift thing and usually have a couple of minutes here and there to catch up and post.

No worries if your training is interrupted at that stage. You will be far enough along that just a couple of longish runs will maintain your fitness just fine. It may even be a decent respite that enables you to really tackle the last couple of weeks prior to taper.

Howard - Good luck with your classes. Send your classmate this way if she needs any support!

Mike - WOW, that's quite the whirlwind summer you've had. Glad to be home??? Now start training!!:rotfl: Don't worry, I'll bet your LR feels fine this weekend.
Jodi - Yes and no on the happy to be home. I was back about 10 hours prior to starting back to work 7 x 10hr nights in a row. All 3 DDs have open house/orientations during my normal sleeping time. Our house has that typical post-vacation-but-we're-too-busy-to-put-everything-away hit by a hurricaine look. I need a hay-bailer (sp?) to cut the grass. There's no food court or quick walk over to Epcot for something good to eat. Do I need to go on?

I was able to get a pretty decent 4 mile "tempo" run in Tuesday evening then 8 fairly strong miles last night. Rest day today and then 17 on Friday.

Friday's run is somewhat important for me. I've been contemplating running the Akron marathon 9/29 as a catered long run. My folks live close by and they (the marathon, not my parents) are giving finishers a pair of Brooks shoes for free. Nucpharm Stephanie and her DH are running as well so it could be a mini-WISH meet.

I will probably decide after Friday whether to go or not. I'm afraid that all the galavanting around THE WORLD has put me too far back to think about running 2 marathons in a month. We'll see.

Mike--um, yeah, you better come join us!;) It's all about the free shoes! Oh and don't forget the Michelob Ultra post race party. Hehe, and I love how you say "2 marathons in a month" like it's not that big a deal! I've always thought those night shifters were a little "off", but now I have confirmation.

Okay, sorry I hijacked your thread--back to your normally scheduled posters--and I'll go back to lurking/reading since I won't be joining ya'll (at least this year!)

Mike - Nice goin' on those runs:thumbsup2 , wish my training was coming along that well. A free pair of shoes??? You've gotta run Akron:lmao: . Anything for free shoes...Good luck in getting your house back to normal:laundy: . I can't even do that after being away for a long weekend!

Howard - wish you were running w/ us, send your classmate this way:yay: Good luck in class!

Sara - Not talking to you 'cause you're going to Disney World:rotfl:

Colleen - How'd you make out w/ that 2nd massage today?

My training is beat! I tried to do some speed work yesterday, but it only amounted to about 15 minutes of my son timing running up & down the street??? And then about a mile run afterwards. It was too hot & of course I couldn't do the logical thing & drag my lazy glutes outta bed in the early a.m.

Today I said heck w/ it & went to the gym & did the dreadmill for 40 mins. That was ok. 16 on Sat. - hope the weather cools down like they say it's gonna! I just haven't had the desire to stay on the training shchedule:headache: , let's hope my attitude improves or else it could be pretty amusing @ MCMpopcorn::

Colleen - How'd you make out w/ that 2nd massage today?

Jodi, first of all, my massage was "a workout", I was exhausted after the treatment. My therapist found some new problem spots, which indicates my stretching routine needs some revamping. I have a string of knots from behind my ankle bone all the way up to my knee. It feels like a strip of speedbumps, unbelievable.:sad2: I am really wondering if my orthodics are causing some of my trouble with my right side.

The good news is I did get 8 miles in yesterday but have decided my Garmin is whacked! (where is the smashing Garmin icon when you need it.) Anyway, I was doing 10:40's, then a 7:15, throw in a few 9:10's, then a 12:40 for good measure. Not sure what my pace was because I have been on the dreadmill so much the last month because of the heat.

OK, I need to know the LR plans for everyone here until taper time. Isn't this a fall back week on Marathoning for Mortals plan? Sara and Jodi are doing 16's, so what is in store the next 5 weeks for weekend runs? Are you girls doing a couple really long weeks in a row? I feel compelled to do 16 this weekend as well, so Sara and I can bring in a sub 4:30.:thumbsup2

Mike, I know the plan you are running, good luck with your 17 today.

Chester, you are following the same plan as Mike correct, don't you have 8 and 17 this weekend too?

Dave, can't wait to hear about your cruise!:yay:

Stephanie and Howard, :wave2: thanks for dropping in. Howard good luck with your studies this semester. Stephanie, your marathon is right around the corner. What do you have planned for a LR this weekend?
