Jodi - Awesome time on the LR:cheer2: !! Glad you tried some of that dang fast running too:thumbsup2 .

Dave - I'll be 39 in January so you trump me by a month:) . Great time on the 16 miles:woohoo: . Bring on the cold before the heat any day for my LR's. I also flew my first 10 miles on Saturday and then I was done for.

Colleen - Waiting for the LR report:rolleyes1 . I hope the knee is feeling fine today:wizard: .

As for my LR report, I am so blaming it all on DH:lmao: . He had his 20-year class reunion last weekend so his presence was scarce from Thursday on. Saturday he has a 9:00 a.m. tee time so I know I have to split my LR doing as much as I can get done outside with the remainder done on the TM. I did 10 outside with my slowest mile being a 9:19:scared1: and then finished up on the TM at 9:30 mpm. 8 of the 10 outside were sub 9's which is way, way too fast and I am suffering for it for sure today. My quads are hating me. I am splitting my run today because this mornings TM run was painful:sad1: .

Best of luck to all training this week:cheer2: . It looks to be beautiful running weather for the early part of the week:banana: . I love being able to run comfortably after work if I must.

I'm too late this year, so I'm shooting for 2008.

I'm surprise that the MCM hasn't gone to a lottery system like NYC. As a matter of fact, I think someone did mention they tried a lottery one year. Can anyone confirm this?

Good Luck to everyone!

Hi

I'm not sure about MCM having tried a lottery one year, but I do know that I didn't have much trouble getting in this year. I think I signed up 5 days after registration opened. NYC is tough, I've been trying 2 years now! Well at least I know I'm guaranteed a spot in 2009!

Sara - :cool1: WOW, sub 9mms??? on that long run? My last 3 miles were sub 9 on myLR & I thought I'd die. YUCK, fast running. And my legs were sore, too. What is this hurting stuff?

Dave - Have you recovered from that 16 miler yet? Hello:surfweb: is this thing on?

Colleen - OK, now that you've officially vanished from this thread I can feel free to rank on Canada endlessly??...

How's everyones training going this week? Well, I was supposed to run 60mins. yesterday, but I only did 32mins. Why? I dunno, just didn't feel like running. Now that's commitment:rotfl: . Today is 40 mins. CT. I walked my dog a mile this a.m., does that count for anything?

Hi

Colleen - OK, now that you've officially vanished from this thread I can feel free to rank on Canada endlessly??...

:rotfl: Ok, I haven't vanished and I will fess up, willing to face the possibility that Jodi will ostracize me but... I flew up to Chicago for the weekend to watch the Cubs play the Cardinals.:tiptoe: As it turned out, we only saw 2 innings of the game before it was rained out, but I got to see Wrigley Field and "experience" MLB and the Cubbie fans. Also, I was able to experience to world of American Girl Place. DD8 thought it was out of this world, I thought they have some pretty ingenious marketing people.

Alright, now about my training, cough, cough :rolleyes1 there was no LR this weekend. My knee, IT band, hip flexor and glut (pretty much my entire right leg) were pretty sore after my Friday night run. I thought I should rest now before the 18 and 20 milers. I might do 14 this weekend, we will see.

Sara, what is this business about sub 9 minute miles on a LR? You were flying girl!

Dave, very respectable time on your LR. Sorry the last few miles weren't what you were looking for, but you got to have to bad runs along the way.

Jodi, you too?? sub 2 hour half marathon, I guess I will see you three at the finish time, have a bag of ice waiting for me after I limp in.

Finally, any suggestions how I can sell four tickets to a Cubs game in September. Not sure when they will re-schedule to rain-out, but I have 4 tickets and our friends we went with have 4 tickets. Some guys I was talking to at Wrigley told me about Stubhub??

Good Morning MCM Teammates: :surfweb:

This is just a quick post because I'm heading out the door for a morning run before work. I did 5 miles yesterday after work in 44:49 min/8:57 mpm. It was a great run. I felt good the entire time. It was great conditions for running too, overcast and cool, very nice!

Sara- You were smokin' on your long run. WTG!!! When in January is your birthday? My princesses, DD6 pooh: and DD9 princess:, both have January birthdays too. DD6 pooh: is 1/25, and DD9 princess: is 1/6.

Jodi- Hmmmm, it took me a little while to recover from my 16 miler. Sunday was my usual rest day, Monday I was supposed to run but I came home and DD9 princess: clutched onto me and said "don't go for a run". OK, twist my arm, I won't go. So I had 2 rest days before my run yesterday (which is why I think I had a good run yesterday). This week's a step back week for me. I had been pushing pretty hard the past 3 weeks.

Colleen- Cool! That trip to Chicago sounds great! Between undergrad and grad school I lived in Chicago for 1 year, and I was able to get a part time job as an usher at Wrigley Field for the Cubbies. I was even able to go on the field once, and lead kids around for a pre-game clinic with the players. I LOVE that stadium. Such a great place.

OK, I really need to change if I'm going to run this morning.

Colleen - Welcome back, eh? Chicago for the weekend?? NICE! I've always wanted to see Wrigley Field, but have only visited Chicago twice & that wasn't in the plans. Glad you had fun. There's a huge American Girl store in NYC as well & let me tell you, I'm glad I don't have a daughter. It's bad enough I have to take my son to Nintendo World NYC, ugh - or should I call it Ni$n$t$endo W$or$ld. No LRs? No worries, this training b4 a race is way overrated anyway:rotfl: . I don't like it.
Sorry your Canadian right leg is hurting. Soak that bad boy in a hot, hot tub w/ some epsom salt. Twice a day if you can handle that, loosen it all up. Remember the chi.
As far as those tickets go, have you ever tried craigslist? I've had very good luck on that site. No fees, nothin. You just have to be careful is all. Are your friends in Chicago? They could meet the buyers & sell them for you. Unless you have a paypal account set up, this is the best way, IMHO. I've heard of stubhub, but there's too much poop to deal with.

Dave - Don't you love it when your kids beg you not to run? Honestly, I think it's so worth it mentally, to give up those Mon. runs once in a while. There has been many times after a 16 or 18 miler on Sat. I just can't bring myself to run on Mon. & I walk for an hour instead. Or I just stay in bed:banana:. I'm sure this practice hasn't made me into Flash Gordon, but...

Sara - How's training going this week? Have your legs recovered yet?

I went out a little after 5 this a.m. I guess I'm having the same weather as you, Dave, it was awesome! Ran 45 mins., felt really great, left the garmin @ home, but I didn't go crazy fast (not that I could if I wanted to). Beautiful sunset mixed w/ the clouds.

Thanks for all the advice on the tickets and the hoser leg, I forgot about the Epsom salt baths. My massage therapist swears by them, that reminds me I should make an appointment.

Oh, cool weather?!??!:confused3 We are still in the high 90's here, I think yesterday was 99 and today will be a little cooler at 98.:scared: I did get to the gym last night for a 7 mile run, 1 mile warm-up and 6 miles at 9 mpm. I had an ice bath last night and I feel a little sore this morning but I need to loosen up the hip.

Can't wait to get the same cool weather that Dave and Jodi are getting.:)

Hey Sara, how are things?

I must not be subscribed to this thread since I'm not getting e-mail notification on postings:confused3 .

Colleen You went to Chicago?! It sounds like so much fun. Il'll be there myself for a business trip next month. I always go every September and I love it there. I have no advice on how to sell the tix but I think Jodi's idea is a good one. Sorry about the brutal temps. We're looking to get those over the weekend:scared1: .

Jodi - Our weather is wonderful here also and I've been taking advantage of it with outside runs after work. Great run for you this morning:cool1: !!

Dave - My birthday is 1/23. Awesome job on the 5 miler yesterday:woohoo: . Two rest days definitely help:thumbsup2 . How cool you worked at Wrigley Field!!

My legs have recovered. I think I just ran them into submission:rotfl2: . I ran twice yesterday and then did speedwork this morning. I am sure I'll be feeling it tomorrow.

Sara - You ran TWICE yesterday & did SPEED WORK??:scared1: :scared1: :scared1::thumbsup2 . Holy cow, you & I have a very different idea of "training":lmao:. Goodness, you do know that there is no prize $ offered @ MCM, right?:goodvibes. Really, though, keep up the good work, you inspire me.:yay:

Jodi - :lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2: Um, even though I don't like fast running, I may have forgotten to mention that I am a hardcore fitness fanatic. I run at 4:30 a.m. weekdays on my treadmill and then go to a Pilates class before work or do yoga at home before work. After work I either run or do more yoga or lift weights. I've also been know to frequent the Y on my lunch hour to squeeze in some weight work. I really love:love: running and it is lots of fun for me to work out. A "rest" day is a hard thing for me. I've got an addictive personality that I feed through running. DH "tolerates" it:rolleyes1 .
Believe me, I'm really not into "racing" all that much. I just enjoy the scenery and the time with friends. I just don't want it to hurt:scared1:.

Hi Everyone: This morning I ran 5 miles in 48:58 min/9:43 mpm pace. My legs were a little tired, but I figured that's because I ran yesterday afterwork and then turned around and ran the next morning at 6am. I'm taking a step back week this week, and will try to do another 5 mile run on Friday and a 10 mile LR on Saturday. We then leave on our cruise on Sunday!!! :cool1:

Sara- Whoa, you are hard core with your fitness workouts. For me the races are my motivation for getting all these runs in. I'm like you, I like the scenery and running with friends during the races. However, I think if I didn't have a big race to train for my running would fall way off.

Colleen- I hope your right leg is feeling better soon. Take it easy, and a soak in the tub does sound good.

Jodi- Congrats on your run this morning. Good for you for getting out there. Sounds like you had a great run. WTG!!!

Sara - OK, now that I know you're a fitness freak & have seen your "schedule", I'll make sure not to mention how proud I am if I run in the a.m. & jump on the trampoline w/ my son in the afternoon. :rotfl: What an impressive regime - are you former military or something??:lmao:

Dave - I'm with you on this one, if it weren't for the races I'd be sleeping in for sure. I need the bling-bling & tech shirts to keep me motivated. I suppose that says something about my personality type, huh?:goodvibes I'm diggin your after run work, followed by 5 mile run this am @ a good clip. Do you CT @ all? You promised details on that cruise:woohoo: .

Hoser - How's the leg? are you soaking, please? Maybe take a week off from running, CT.

I got up @ 5 but only went 3.5 miles. My husband had to leave for work a little b4 6 & wanted me home b4 he left (DS is in Lake George w/ the grandparents). Big worry wart:love: . Usually he works evenings & is home while I run in the a.m.

Tomorrow CT & I think maybe 8 on Sat. a.m. Is the humidity returning for you guys this weekend as well? Don't you wish you were in Canada, Colleen?:santa: . North Carlonia is yucky-hot.

Another treadmill run to report and yes, I do wish it were cooler here, it was 70 for a high in Chicago over the weekend so nice. I was actually chilled and wore jeans all weekend, but back to the report.

It was speed work for me today, 2 miles warm up and 4 x 800 at 8 minute pace. I felt pretty good so ran another mile at a 9 minute pace and then 1 mile cooldown for a little over 6 miles total.

I soaked today and lots of stretching and I went out and purchased new shoes, oh what a difference. I think I am ready for LR this weekend.

Off to bed, night all.

Good Morning MCM Teammates: :surfweb:

Yesterday was a rest day for me. This week has been a step back week for me so I've been taking it easy. I was going to do my x-training yesterday. I usually do deep water running (i.e., swogging pirate:) as my x-training. However, I got really busy at work, and had to get home to take DD9 princess: to her tae kwon do belt test. So I decided to take it easy and just take a rest day. I've actually been really, really tired lately - so I think I needed the rest day.

Jodi- Nice job on your run yesterday. Yup, the humidity is returning here too. It's supposed to get back up in the 90's again today.

Colleen- I'm glad to hear your leg is feeling better. Really nice job on the speedwork. I need to get more consistent about doing that speedwork. That was a nice thing about having those Thursday evening x-country races. I had my built in tempo runs. Congrats on the new shoes.

Sara- Hello over there in Lake George.

TGIF:cheer2: Happy Friday MCM Teammates:grouphug: !!

Colleen - Nice job on the speedwork:woohoo: :cool1: and for diligently stretching afterward. I hope you get some cooler weather headed your way for the weekend. We're getting your heat and humidity:rolleyes1 so I may be running on the TM on Sunday. Congrats on the new shoes. What are your shoes of choice?

Jodi - Actually, I am an adult onset athlete. I just have ADHD and running helps calm my mind down. I also have lots of issues to work out:lmao: and running is a great outlet. Working full-time with 3 kids has me needing some kind of stress relief:confused3 . For me it's not about motivation, it's more like an alternative to therapy:rotfl2: . I've met both Dave and Colleen IRL so don't worry about me being certifiable or anything:confused:

Dave - Glad you've decided to take it easy. Definitely listen to your body on that one. It makes a world of difference if you back off a bit before you forge ahead. I hope DD's test went great:thumbsup2 . Some year we'll have to meet mid-state and run the Boilermaker together. A guy who works with me is from Utica and always pushes me to run that race. It sounds like lots of fun.

Happy LR's to all this weekend:cool1: . I have to push mine off until Sunday due to family commitments tomorrow. Hoping the heat will blow out of here by then.

Where are Chester and Mike?!

Sara - Wow, cool, you live in Lake George? Various family members usually trek up there each summer, led by my brother who has a boat & rents one of those islands & camps out for 10 days or something silly like that. He launches his boat in Bolton Landing. My DS camped 1 night (they were only up there 3 days) & the rest of the time they stayed @ the Graycourt Motel near Great Escape. He had fun & I didn't have to be a mom for a few days:banana: . Actually, after about 2 days it starts to get weird w/o him around.
I only started running in '05 to train for the DW 1/2 in Jan '06 and just sorta "ran" with it. I have many "shoes" in my closet as well:lmao: & running just seems to make me feel good about stuff in general, so I'm with you on the theraputic advantages. Definitely cheaper than therapy, right?;) . So ALL of you have met before, but ya'll have never met me, hmm...:rolleyes1

Dave - Did your daughter kick some butt, or what??? Rest is good, run with that notion. I've kinda got this funky feeling in my right heel that I don't want to turn into a heel spur, so I may put off my run 'til Sunday & only do 6 or 8. I've been driving my thumb into the hurting area, trying to get it to loosen up. I think I'll soak it tonight.

Colleen - Sounds like you had a kickin' speed workout, it must've been good 'cause I don't even understand the breakdown of it:lmao: . It appears to be very impressive, though.

Did I mention I hate the heat? It's back, or maybe I'm having hot flashes already:eek: I don't know whether to do a LR this weekend or a local 5k on Sunday. Oh wait, I don't have $30 to blow, guess I'll be doing a LR. No, I'm not cheap, I'm just frugal:laughing: Did I spell that right?

So what shoes does everyone run in?? I use Saucony's Grid Stabil 6. It's great support for my overpronating & has prevented shin splints. My husband calls them "clod hoppers" 'cause they're so heavy (he used to run track), but I have no choice. What about you guys???

Have a good weekend & pray to the weather god "Earl", for cooler temps!

Jodi

Hey Everyone: OK, I got my 5 mile short run in this morning. I wanted to try to beat the heat somewhat. I finished in 47:38 min/9:30 mpm pace. I was feeling really good the first 3.5 miles, but then I got a side stitch. Wow, I haven't gotten one of those for years. I think I was getting a little dehydrated. It was starting to get warm, and I remembered all I had to drink in the morning was my coffee. Anyhow, I didn't stop at all, just slowed down a little, and finished my run up. I felt pretty good about it.

Oh and last night, DD9 princess: did very well at her tae kwon do belt test, and DD6 pooh: did very well waiting the 90 min until DD9 tested. DD9 was very strong and confident during her testing. We were proud of her, and took everyone out for ice cream after the test.

Jodi- I have 2 pairs of shoes I run in. For my short runs I use Nike Pegasus, but the Nike's are a little too soft and don't give me enough support for my long runs. So for my long runs I use my old New Balance 1061's. Oh, and yes, I have met Sara IRL during the WDW marathon weekend last year, and yes, I can attest to the fact that she's in really, really good shape. I have to laugh now because I remember Colleen asking Sara before the marathon whether she's been lifting weights. Hmmmm, I guess maybe just a little.

Sara- I'd love to meet and do the Boilermaker together with you. I was going to run it this year, but life took over and I didn't make it. I had registered for it, and paid for a bus trip from Rochester to Utica. But alas, I had my first DNS due to family issues. I'd also really like to run in Lake Placid and your neck of the woods. I know you're running the Lake Placid Half Marathon in a couple weeks. Unfortunately, I can't make that one, but I'd be interested in running some other races over in that area. We used to go down to Lake George a fair amount when we lived in Vermont.

Colleen- How are things going for you down in NC? Is it still hot down there?

Sara -
I'm still here. I have 7 miles tomorrow and 11 on Sunday. Training is going well with the exception of minor shin splints and a cranky knee that doesn't want to cooperate until about 5 minutes into the run.

Jodi -
I started my running career 2 years ago with a pair of Nike Air Max Moto III's. I trained 2006 WDW full in them and ran the race in a second pair. Since then, I've switched to Brooks Glycerines for 2006 DL half and 2007 WDW full. After 2007 full I tried some Brooks Axiom's that were very light, but I just didn't like them. I then tried a pair of Brooks Adreneline's and seemed to start developing shin splints. I'm now back to Brooks Glycerine's and I'm on my 3rd pair. These are what I intend to continue with.

I have a pair of Asics Nimbus VII's that I picked up at Ross's for $22. They are comfortable, but the insole is too cushy and they don't seem to "breathe" as well as the Brooks. But for the price, they make a great pair of shoes for the gym.

Chester
W.I.S.H. Half Fast Marathon Team

Good Morning MCM Teammates: :surfweb:

I'm waking up and fueling up for my LR this morning. I'm in my stepback/rest week, so I have 10 miles on tap this morning.

Chester- Greetings. I don't think I've seen you posting since I joined your group for the Marine Corps Marathon. I also saw in your siggy that you are thinking of the Honolulu Marathon for 2009. I'd really like to run Honolulu or Maui sometime too, and was wondering if we could get a WISH group together to run it. Hmmmm, 2009???

Jodi- OK, you've been asking about details regarding my cruise, and since I leave TOMORROW I figured I better share. This all started when we had the "vacation from Hades" back in July. We always get together with my DW's family and share a cottage in the Finger Lakes for a week here in Upstate NY. It's our family, DW's brother's family, DW's mother, and sometimes her grandmother and sister come too. As time goes on, and the kids get bigger, the cottage is getting "smaller", and it's been harder and harder for everyone to relax and have a good time. To make a long story short these trips are no longer vacations but family obligations. This time there was a big fight between DW and her brother, so much so we had to pack up the family and leave. We drove back home with our girls in tears. At that point, I decided we need to have a real vacation just for our family. DW's been saying for a long time she wanted to try a cruise. She wants a vacation where she doesn't have to do anything, she can sit and relax and have everything taken care of. So I found a really good deal for a short cruise, and since DW's b-day is coming up in early Sept. I thought this could be an early b-day present for her.

So we all fly down tomorrow to Orlando, and drive over to Port Canaveral, FL to stay overnight. We board the Royal Carribbean "Sovereign of the Seas" on Monday for four nights to the Bahamas. The destination wasn't so much of a big deal, but the timing of the cruise (this is the kids last week of summer vacation) and price were the things. We have two oceanview cabins side by side, and I'm hoping we can put the princesses, DD6 pooh: and DD9 princess:, in one cabin, and DW and myself in the other cabin. We'll see if the girls can sleep in there by themselves. We go to Royal Carribbean's private island "Coco Cay", and to Nassau, Bahamas, and spend a day at sea, before getting back to Port Canaveral on Friday. Our flight doesn't leave until 5:30pm on Friday, so I thought we might stop at Downtown Disney for some pin trading before we leave Orlando. Just to get a little Disney fix - you know, for the kids... ;)

So that's the story. It's our first time we've ever taken a cruise, and we'll see how it goes. After the cool weather we've had here the past week (although not yesterday). I'm looking forward to a last blast of summer heat.

OK, I better get dressed to run if I'm going to do this thing. Good luck to everyone on their LRs and training this weekend.
