Thanks Dave, I wonder what the course change means??? I hope no hills! What do you all think about the little elevation increase over the first two miles?

Jodi, awesome time on your half marathon. Did you run a pretty steady race?

Sara, good luck on you 16 miler this weekend.

I am hoping to get to the gym today to do a tempo run on the treadmill. Just can't do it outside at 98 degrees.:scared: I am hoping I can set up playdates for my kids. I have DS10 going to a friend's house, we will see if DD8 gets an invite this afternoon. If not, I may have to do it tonight when DH gets home from work.

STRETCH, STRETCH and stretch some more...my new motto!:rolleyes1

Colleen - I hope you're able to get to the gym today and that your tempo run is inspiring:woohoo: . Stretch and stretch some more:thumbsup2 .
Congrats for digging out the credit card for WDW '08. Are you going solo?

Dave - Thanks for the heads up on the course change. Are you doing the Flying Pig '08? I am and I bet if we twist Colleen's arm she would too.

Wednesdays are usually speedwork for me but I am passing this week in hopes I can bid farewell to the nagging groin issue. I have also been yoga crazy lately so my legs appreciated the break. Between that and my Pilates class I am pretty sore.

Happy LR's to everyone this weekend:cheer2: . It looks to be shaping up nicely for a cool breeze on Saturday morning for the 16 miles:cool1: .

Colleen- Good luck with your tempo run today. Yes, stretching is key.

Sara- I might do the Flying Pig '08. The half was really fun last year, and it was fun running with Steve. I don't know if I'd do the full or the half, but I think that's one that's on my calendar.

I need to get a run in today. I didn't get my usual 8 miler in this morning because I was dead from driving from the 8 hour drive from Delaware yesterday. I have 16 miles on tap for Saturday too.

Sara, ah, too funny, you know me so well! Yes, you could probably twist my arm for Flying Pig. Afterall, I know some great people who live in OH! (hi Krista and Steve!:) )

Ok, both kids are play dates off to the gym.
Oh, yes, I am probably doing Disney marathon solo. We have a Christmas trip planned, meeting my sister and her family at Disney, so I don't think I could convince DH to go back 2 weeks later.:rolleyes1

Well troops, I just called to make reservations at American Cafe for Friday night and the one in Crystal City is closed. There is one about 15 minutes away. I am sure there is a plethora of other restaurants around our hotels. Could someone suggest another from the list as I don't recognize some of the chain names (if that is what we want)?

This is the closest: 5801 Duke St. Alexandria, VA

Hi Colleen- How did your tempo run go?

I ended up laboring through 6 miles in 58:29 min/9:43 mpm pace. I seemed really sluggish and tired. Hopefully it is just from the travelling.

Here are some "stickers" from DD6 pooh:
:hippie:   :cool1: :laundy: :cheer2: princess: :wizard: :flower3: :beach: :artist: ::cop: :worship: :chat: :music: :rolleyes1

Jodi- I missed that you ran the NYC 1/2 marathon. That must have been a blast. WTG on the great time!

We have a Champps Americana here in Rochester, and it's really family friendly.

Johnny Rocket's is also a chain, and they are certainly fun for kids. I think it might be a bit busy and noisy to chat.

Hey, I just discovered you can sort your list (from the link above) by the feature "kid friendly". When you do that 9 restaurants come up:

BeboTrattoria

Cafe Italia

Champps Americana

Chili's Grill & Bar

Crystal City Sports Pub

Deluxe Diner

King Street Blues

Sine

Ted's Montana Grill

Colleen - Honestly, I don't have a preference. Anything is fine with us and I truly appreciate your effort in coordinating the WISH meet. Just let us know the time & place and we'll be there. As for the Pig, DH and I will be there for the long weekend without the kids. I hope you can work it in:thumbsup2 .

Dave - Good luck to you and the princess: 's tonight! Sorry you're feeling a bit run down also.

For some reason I feel like I've been run over by a truck today:confused3 . When I have absolutely no appetite I know I am sick. Having a bit of difficulty keeping my head off my desk at work:surfweb: . Let's hope it's a 24 hour deal and leaves as fast as it came. I need a good run this weekend.

Collen - Thanks from me, too, for coordinating the WISH meeting in DC. Whatever is fine for me. If you get sick of trying to find something, let me know & I'll take over. My pace was pretty steady for the NYC 1/2. Slower in the beginning w/ some 10:30s & such. My last 3 miles were my fastest, all under 9mmiles, so I guess I should've pushed a little more in the beginning. But alas, I just don't like to push:rotfl: . My marathon & 1/2 marathon times are always pretty much the same as what I train at. "Race pace", what's that?:lmao: . How was the tempo? I had that yesterday, too & it was, well, pathetic. You HAVE to come to the WDW marathon:woohoo: .

Dave - Don't worry about the sluggish feeling, you know within the next few runs you'll have that "dang, this feels kinda good" feeling again. Love your DD's stickers:goodvibes .

Sara - I hope you feel better! Don't they let you take naps @ work? Good luck on Sat. I only have to run 6 miles, 14 next Sat. We're going to have awesome weather here in CT this weekend, 70's & in the low 50's to 40's @ night:woohoo: .

OK guys, break out the violins. I'm turning 40 on Sat.:scared1: Ugh!, how much longer is this "holy crap you're 40 & still have the same mentality as when you were 15 - you've accomplished nothing, no Oscars, no Tony's, no Pulitzer prizes on your mantle..." thing going to stop rearing it's ugly head? Looking for sympathy! thanks

When is the Flying Pig in '08? I've wanted to run this marathon for a while. Only because I NEED to have a medal with a flying pig on it!!! It's just so......me! Have you guys run it b4? How tough is the course?

Is today a rest day for anybody else?

Jodi - :bday: party: Happy 40th !! You definitely have my sympathy, especially since I have a bit more time before I hit that milestone. Hey, they say life begins at 40 right? You're a marathon runner, right?! Life is good :) I am taking a self-imposed rest day today. For me that means no running but I did go to Pilates class today and will do yoga tonight. We're looking at a great weather forecast here also:cool1: . The Flying Pig is 5/4/08 and I've never run it so I can't offer any guidance as to the level of difficulty. The medal looks so cool!!

Happy Birthday Jodi!

Ah, 40, those were the good old days! Ran my first marathon at 40...ah...the memories.:rotfl: Actually only a few years ago for me.

Yes, I am running Disney!

NO tempo run for me yesterday. I have this funky clicking sound in my knee, so I just ran 3 easy on the treadmill and then 20 minutes on the bike and a little resistance training, trying to strengthen my right quad which I think is the culprit to my knee pain. I will try and go back today for a few more miles and stairclimber perhaps.

Sara, hope you are feeling better!

Dave, is your family coming to DC? Trying to get an accurate count for the WISH meet.

Jodi- Happy Birthday on Saturday!! Congrats on your upcoming 40th birthday!!! I ran the Flying Pig 1/2 Marathon last year. It was on the full marathon course, and it was pretty fun. Really well supported by fans. There was a really big hill, but then the finish was downhill so that was good. I do like my medal with a flying pig on it. I'm considering running the full next year, especially if there is a big WISH turnout.

Sara- Hope you're feeling better soon. Maybe since you are taking it easy for your groin injury, it's opened your body up to a bug. Think of it as a forced rest period.

Colleen- You're over 40??? I wouldn't have guessed it. I'm 38, and I certainly didn't think you were any older than I. Must be your youthful attitude towards life. I don't know if my family is coming to DC yet. I kind of hope they would because I'd love for them to see me run and finish another marathon. It's great having family at the finish. Right now, I don't think DW is so keen on going. If they do go, there would be 4 of us all together. Could you make the reservation assuming there will be 4 of us, and then if it's just me we'll have a little elbow room?

Good Morning MCM Teammates: :surfweb:

Last night I ran in a x-country race at our neighborhood park. My princesses, DD6 pooh: and DD9 princess:, and I walked up to the park. They ran the 800 m kids race, and I ran the slightly longer than 5K x-country race. I was really happy with my race. My Garmin measured it as 3.37 miles, and my time was 26:35 min/7:54 mpm. I consider that my tempo run for the week. I'm glad to get a good run in. Today I'm going to do some deep water running x-training, and then I'm on tap for 16 miles on Saturday.

Colleen- if last night was any indication, I don't think my family is coming with me for the marathon. The kids were melting down waiting for me to run my race, and DW was getting really frustrated trying to keep them entertained while I ran. Doesn't bode well for them coming in October. :sad2:

First off, thanks everyone, for the solicited birthday wishes, I'll let you know what hurts when I wake up tomorrow.

Dave - I am diggin' that kick a** time you recorded!!! NICE WORK:banana: :cheer2: . The more I read, the more I keep hearing about how important tempo-work is & that you need to "learn" how to run fatigued. Yuck, this is the feeling I avoid @ all costs. My husband says I need to "break out" of my comfort zone. WHY? I like my comfy running zone:laughing: . Sorry to hear your family may not make it, but it can be stressful on spouses. My husband was almost crying when we had to sleep in NYC 2 weeks ago, & that was without the kids. He loves the city, but it is intimidating @ times. At least when you come down to DC you won't have to "worry" about what's going on w/ everyone else or whether or not your wife is going to hug you or clock you over the head when you cross the finish line:lmao:

Sara - How do you feel this a.m.????

Colleen - What's up w/ the clicky knee?? See, that's what happens when you're over 40:goodvibes . I shudder to think @ what will be clicking on me tomorrow a.m.!

Flying Pig, huh? Did somone say that the 1/2 marathon medal has a pig on it, too? Hmmmm, 1/2 the distance & still going home w/ a flying bovine on my medal?? I'll have to give this some thought.

I made pretend I didn't see those hills @ the beginning of the MCM:guilty: , but I guess they are really there, huh? Oh well, get it out of the way in the beginning, I suppose.

What plan are you guys on that you are all running 16 miles tomorrow? I'm doing MFM, again. Maybe I should switch to what ya'll (that's for you, hoser)are following? It's going to be so nice tomorrow a.m. that I may do 14 instead of 6, bump myself up a week. What do you think? I already messed up my schedule by running the 1/2 2 weeks ago.

Dave - Holy cow you were smoking:cool2: !! Awesome time on the race:woohoo: . As for DC, even if you arrive solo you'll still have WISH family there supporting you every step of the way so just go with whatever is least stressful for all involved, KWIM? I'm 38 also but since my b-day is in January I bet I'm a smidgen older than you:rolleyes: .

Jodi - I'm all about the comfy running zone also:thumbsup2 . However, speedwork really does improve pace so I have made it a point to work it in once a week. It's a mental thing. I'm like you with my race pace being slower than the pace I normally run at. Why hurt:confused3 ?! As for training plans, I am using one that Jenny Hadfield had in Her Sports magazine a while back. I used it for my last marathon and I think it's a good balance between preparing you but not killing you:lmao:.

Colleen - I hope the knee doesn't give you any issues. It sounds like you have a good plan for strengthening the quad to alleviate it. Take it easy on your LR this weekend.

I am back in the land of the living today. The groin thing is weird because it isn't painful to run and is just annoying and kind of like a burning feeling when I am driving or sitting. It was killing me yesterday and I didn't even run so I don't know what's up. I ran 4 miles this morning that felt strong. I'll continue with the preventative measures and keep my fingers crossed.

Happy LR's to everyone this weekend:cheer2: .

Good Morning MCM Team: :surfweb:

I'm waking up and fueling up for my LR this morning. I have 16 miles on tap, and it looks like I may be doing them with Sara and Colleen.

Jodi- I have to say I kind of just made up my own training plan for MCM. I decided to run this one kind of late, so I missed the start of official 20 week plans. I looked at what I was currently doing for my LRs, tried to build up slowly to at least one 20 miler, made sure I didn't have to do a 20 miler the week of our cruise, gave myself a little taper, and voila I had a plan. And, yup, the Flying Pig 1/2 Marathon also has a pig with wings on the medal. I can attest that the 1/2 marathon was a lot of fun, and a real challenging course too. It has a big 3 mile long hill on it.

Sara- I'm glad you're feeling better. Hope your groin doesn't give you any trouble on your LR today. Hope the weather is as nice on your side of the state as it is here. Oh, BTW, my b-day is in December so you may be almost a whole year older than me, I turn 39 in December.

Colleen- Hope your knee is feeling a little better.

Happy 40th Birthday Jodi!!!!

Dave - I'm up early, too, crying about how old I am:rotfl: . Thanks for the bday wishes. I'm up fueling early as well, bowl of oatmeal, cup of green tea, sit around for an hour & I'm out the door. Is it super cool where you are this a.m., too? I like your modified plan, oh, & I liked the way you just slipped in the fact that you're going on a cruise. I want details!! Where are you guys going??? Luck Ducks. I think that Flying Pig half sounds great - I need to be challenged...3 mile HILL:scared1: , maybe I don't need to be challenged that much:rotfl2: . Good luck on your LR, enjoy yourself, I'm not sure how far I'm going today - I'll let you know what happens, my age may stop me in my tracks!

Collen & Sara - Good luck on those LRs. I hope you're both feeling up to it, no clicking & no groin irritations. Check in & let us know how you made out!

Greetings Everyone:

OK, I got my 16 miles completed in 2:44:58 min/10:18 mpm. It was cooooold. I was doing well the first 10 miles, but then tanked it the last 6. Oh well, I got my steps in, right?

Jodi- I hope you got a good run in. I'll tell you more about the cruise later. I'm too tired to type anymore now.

Dave - Very nice time on that 16 miler:dance3: , sorry to hear that the last 6 were less than ideal, I hope you are now taking a well-deserved nap! But since you have an entire family home, I doubt that's happening:rotfl: . It was cold, wasn't it?? But it felt so good.

OK, I ran a brand new route today, hadn't planned on it, but figured "what the heck". Around mile 9 I looked @ my garmin & said to myself "self, from what that watch is sayin', if you haul glute for the next 4 miles, you may be able to come in under a 2 hour 13.1 mile run". So there I went, running like I don't like to run, all fast (read fast waddle) & everything, & I ran my "home 1/2 marathon" in 1:59 & 13 seconds. Phew. I didn't believe my Garmin, so I went on that route thingie on the track & field website & mapped out where I'd gone. It came out to only 12.75 miles :confused3 :headache: :sad2: . But then I thought, well, that map-route-thing only measures in straight lines, & the road I was runnin' had curves, and the sidewalks were curvy, and, and, and...Well, I justified it in my head somehow, & I'm taking the dang notion that I finished a half marathon in under (just) 2 hours:lmao: . Go ahead & just try & tell me otherwise!! .

Colleen & Sara Hope you both had good weather & good runs!

Me & the hubby are headed out to Mystic now to walk around the village & get a bite to eat! Have a good rest of the weekend, WISHERS!
