Jodi - Awesome job on the 10 miles:cheer2: Don't even sweat the CT skipping. My Chi running book came today so I am reading it.

Colleen - Yeah for the yoga class:banana: . Yoga is really, really good for you both physically and mentally so I truly hope you enjoy it. Are you sore today? I am SO sore from my yoga XT yesterday:eek: .

LR report for you:thumbsup2 . I am not thrilled but not too depressed either. I got in 8 miles and my splits were as follows: 10:08, 9:29, 9:47, 9:39, 9:56, 11:58 (had to eat some Mickey Mouse Gummies from Goofy's Candy Co), 10:01, 9:54. So the lesson learned is my fitness is still there and I just need to heal the darn injury. Even if I don't run for the next two weeks I am confident I can do this. I need to rest which is a hard thing for me. I am going to see the ortho on 10/19 to make sure I am okay to do this thing.

I hope everyone else has inspiring LR's today:cool1: .

hello MCMers,

I was up at 5:30 this morning because I decided to run a little 5K this morning (I signed up for this race sometime in September), so I ate breakfast and put a heating pad on my quad to help warm it up. I stretched a little and then went out for a little 2 mile run/walk, 13 minute/mile pace, came home and stretched some more before my race. The race was at 8 this morning. I felt OK when I ran it, took it easy, kind of hilly and finished in 27:22. I won first place in the masters division and got a plaque! The race was pretty small with all the "real" runners (according to my orthopod), you know the skinny ones running the 10K, so I didn't have much competition.

I took DD8 to a swim meet after the race and I am exhausted now. One of my friend's mother (who is about 60 and teaches at the college) was at the meet. She has a PhD in some sports medicine discipline, so of course I asked her her opinion about my knee. She said get in and get some rehab right away, work on lengthening the muscles in my quad and my shin, strengthen the other side and surprisingly she said she WOULD have surgery to remove the spurs. She said the surgery was not invasive at all with a 3-4 week recovery period. She also said when I go back for my MRI results she told me to get the doctor to earn his pay and explain EVERY option to me. I did feel rushed.

The MRI results are due back Thursday (first appt available).

Sara - Awright, you got 8 miles in @ a good pace!:thumbsup2 I knew you'd be fine, just be confident in all the training you've done up until now, it'll pull you through! Hoping that there wasn't too much pain & let's hope for the best on the 19th! Happy rest day tomorrow:woohoo: RELAX!

Colleen - Sooo glad you had a fun run today!! :woohoo: Look @ your with a first place plaque & all! w/ an impressive time, I might add.:dance3: Aren't you supposed to be injured or something?:lmao: . I'm also very glad you ran into your mom's friend, the more advice & opinions you can get about this thing, the better. I'm eager to see what the MRI brings.

Can't wait to do nothing tomorrow!:3dglasses

Jodi - Glad you got your 10 miles in. You get me with that butt-crack of dawn thing everytime:lmao: . Cross-training? What is that which you speak of :confused3 ;) ?

Sara - Good job on your run. I'm glad you are just now finding the confidence that we've had in you all along! Hey, wouldn't the chocolate and other goo covered pretzels from Goofy's have been better than the gummies? Kind of tough to carry though.

Oh that reminds me: I saw a lady running past the bus stop earlier this week. She was haulin' it up and over the hill, really fast. The funny thing, in one hand she was holding a water bottle and in the other had a "old fashioned" portable CD player and at least 2 CD cases. I have no idea how far she was running but that would be a tough chore holding on to all that crap for very long. Maybe she should lobby a little harder for an i-Pod.

Colleen - Great job on the 5K. It's good to see you are resting your bum kneee :rolleyes1 . Really though, congrats on the 1st place and plaque. That's awesome. Also great that you could get a little more "expert" advice. I strongly suspect that the correct answer will probably a little combination of all you've received so far.

Saturday morning's weather was perfect for a lovely 12 miles. I ran a bit faster than what I originally planned so it wasn't quite as lovely as I anticipated. I guess we'll call it a tempo run. I was dog-tired at the end and still am a little more sore than I would expect for a measely little 12 miles (isn't that fun to say!).

Take care all!

Oh, the pain! And I am not talking about my knee. I have an all over body pain, like I just ran 10 hard miles. It is really amazing how much conditioning I have lost over the last month. My quads hurt, my hamstrings hurt, my back and neck hurt. I just hurt, all this for a lousy 5K. Well I did get a t-shirt, mug and a nice plaque! :thumbsup2 Where is Rodney Yee when I need him, I need to do some yoga and stretch.

DH just informed me last night that he has to take a "quick" 8 day trip to China and then on to Germany for 2 days. He leaves Tuesday. He is back late Thursday night, the 25th, and I am hoping I can just pour him in the minivan Friday and drive to DC. He will have a bad case of jetlag, so I am sure I will have to do most of the driving. I guess we will wait and see how he handles the work week over in China and then go from there. Not a dull moment in our household!

Good Morning MCMers: :surfweb:

OK, I got back from DC late Friday night. DW and DD6 pooh: and DD9 princess: picked me up at the airport which was great. I got a good run in when I was at DC. My meetings were over Friday at 1:00pm and my flight didn't leave until 8:45pm. So I went back to the hotel and used the pool changing room to put on my running clothes. My hotel was right by the Rosslyn metro station, and I was in walking distance to the Marine Corps Iwo Jima Memorial. So I went to the Iwo Jima statue and started my run there. Wow, that statue is impressive.

I ran from Iwo Jima, past Arlington National Cemetery, over the Arlington Memorial Bridge to the Lincoln Memorial, and around the mall to the Washington Monument. I turned back at the Washington Monument, down the other side of the mall, and back to my hotel. It was about 5.75 miles, and I felt really good. The wind was really blowing though. When I finished my run at the Iwo Jima memorial, I saw painted on the ground the finish line marker for the MCM. That was cool!

So I got to run a little bit on the course.

I haven't done anything yet this weekend. I hung on with the family yesterday. They would have killed me if I took off for a LR. Today I slept in, and I might try to go for 10 miles later on today. We'll see.

Jodi- Great job getting your 10 miles in. WTG!

Sara- Fantastic times on that 8 miler. Yeah, you haven't lost any fitness at all!

Colleen- What are you doing running a 5K? Don't hurt yourself so you can't run Disney. Good luck with your DH in China. Let me know if you can't make it to DC, and we can switch the WISH meet reservation to my credit card.

Mike- Awesome job on your 12 mile tempo run!

OK, gotta go...

Greetings Team:

I got my 10 miles in today. Ran while DW took DD6 pooh: and DD9 princess: to the grocery store. It was a fine run, not too fast, not too slow, ~1:35/9:30 mpm, and I felt just fine at the end. It was cloudy, grey, and threatening rain the whole time. I was in a long sleeve shirt, and I was chilly. Hard to believe that last week I had to cut my run off at 20 mile because it was 85 degrees, and I was way too hot.

OK, I'm heading to bed now.

Dave, or how I envy those easy 10 milers during taper. Ah, I remember those, like I was floating on air!:cloud9: I so hope I will have that feeling again. Same kind of feeling when you pick up your race packet or pin that bib on your running shirt before a race!:cloud9: :cloud9:

I was excited when I picked up my little 5K race packet and bib number, but I was really sad that I won't be able to have the same feeling for MCM.:guilty: I will keep plugging away at the elliptical, swogging and cycling until I get the results back from my MRI on Thursday. My Disney training plan had me running 10 miles this past weekend and 12 next weekend. I really don't know if I will even be able to get myself ready for Disney.:confused3

I had acupuncture and an adjustment this morning and I am off to the gym for some weights, 30 minute bike and 30 minute ellipical.

How is everyone today?

I got 4 miles in on Saturday morning in a "quick for me" 9:09.

I planned on getting up early on Sunday to put in 12 before working concession at the Tampa Bay - Tennessee Game but that got postponed.

DS18 was home from college for the weekend and he wanted to go with me. But since he didn't get home until 2:00am from Howl-O-Scream at Busch Gardens, and I had to stay up to pick DS15 from a Marching Band competition and barely beat DS home, the early morning plans were scrapped.

But, I did put in the 12 late last night. The temp was a little cooler and I had a great run in the dark. I averaged 10:01.

On tap for this week:
Tuesday 4 miles
Wednesday 5 miles
Thursday 4 miles
Saturday 3 miles
Sunday 8 miles

Train on,

Chester

Just finished watching the Indians beat the Red Sox. :thumbsup2 Go Tribe! (grew up in Ohio).

Chester - Wow! You were flying. I guess the thought of prowling panthers helps to step it up a notch!

Dave - Good job on the runs. How was the hill up to the Iwo Jima memorial? I've heard that's pretty tough after 26 miles.

I had an interesting training day today. Dropped DD4 off at preschool then went over to the battlefield (a national park) to do a little trail running for a change of pace. I was only scheduled for 5 miles but it was sooo nice that I ended up doing 8+ instead. I hardly ever run on trails and it sure is different. I think each mile should count as a little more, maybe something like 1.2 due to the ups and downs, uneven terrain, and a couple of glute-calf-lung burning hills. So I'll say I ran 8.12 x 1.2 = 9.75 miles;) .

Then I got back home and DW was just getting ready to go out for a couple miles so I went with and did 2 more miles.

Then after school I took DD11 and DD7 out for a 1 mile "training run" for the MCM fun run. I let them each wear our Garmins and they were so excited. DD11 did her mile in 11.08 mpm and DD7 (much more interested in looking at the Garmin than running) finished in 15.40. It seemed like they had fun.

Dave - Good job on the runs. How was the hill up to the Iwo Jima memorial? I've heard that's pretty tough after 26 miles.
Hey Mike, the hill going up to the Iwo Jima Memorial wasn't too bad, but it will definitely be noticeable after 26 miles. I would say it's a mild grade, less than the exit ramps at Disney that's for sure.

Great job on your running yesterday. It's also great you are getting the whole family involved. WTG!!!

I didn't do anything yesterday. I was going to run after work, but I was absolutely exhausted. I came home, and watched a TV show with DD6 pooh: and fell asleep on the couch. I guess I needed it. But I guess taper time means lazy time for me too.

Good Morning MCM Team:

OK, I got in 3 miles on the TM in 30 min. I took it nice and slow and easy, and it felt just fine...

Gotta get to work.

I know, I know, I'm such a slug. Apparently tapering not only makes me physically lazy, but my brain shuts down, too!

HI MCMrs! Wow, can you believe how close we are to this thing? Now I'm getting nauseated when I think about it. Ugh Not much to report, I ran 40 mins yesterday in the beautiful weather & CT on the bike @ the gym today for 30 mins. But is it really excercise if you're watching tv?:rotfl:

Dave - I'll be staying @ the Holiday Inn in Rosslyn for the marathon, did you happen to see that while you were there? It's supposedly right next to the Iwo Jima memorial. That is soooo cool that you ran some of the course & saw the finish line. YIPES! Glad to hear to hill isn't as big as the exit ramps in the World, not that they were so bad, but like you said, after 26 miles anything that's not downhill is heinous. Look @ you getting up early & doing the dreadmill thing. It's weird how the weather changed so quickly, huh?

Mike - :hippie: I love that you've got the whole family going, although I must caution you about all that extra running, nice day or not:lmao: . Seriously, though, that's awesome & inspiring to me (I mean, not enough to get me to run further than I'm supposed to, but it's cool to think about:banana: ).

Chester - What gives? Were you being chased on that 4 miler? Check you out with those kickin' times! WTG!

Sara & Colleen - Where are you two? Is everything ok?:confused3 . Hurry back 'cause I'm scared being the only female on these boards!

Oh, quick question, do you guys think I could run in a pair of sneakers (same brand & style I've been using previous to this pair) that'll only have a little over 20 miles in them by marathon day? I used them on my 10 miler Sat. w/o any probs. - need some input, peeps! Thanks

I'm here. Busy day again today.

Yesterday I biked for 30 minutes, walked on the treadmill for 30 minutes and then did some weights. Today I went to my second yoga session. Today's instructor gave us aromatherapy oils to help us relax and blankets to keep us warm during the relaxation period at the end.:hippie: It was relaxing, but I wanted to just crawl back into bed after that!

Will write more later.

Good morning everyone,

Dave - Did you feel lonely yesterday? Good job on your TM run. What does your taper plan look like for the next week and a half? Have you got a goal time in mind yet?

Jodi - I didn't really do anything additional. Just flip-flopped a 8 mile day for a 5 mile day. BTW, I think as long as you did the 10 miles in your new shoes you should be O.K. (although you can't hold me responsible if it turns out otherwise).

Sara - How's everything?

Colleen
- Aromatherapy? Warm blankets? Is the the 6:00AM yoga class? They'd have to wake me up about 10:30 to kick me out of the room.

I did a nice 5 miles last evening. Ran in a new area while DD11 was at dance. Started out with a nice long gentle downhill so I ended up going a little too fast. That's O.K. I more than compensated for it the last couple of miles ;) .

We're taking DD's to see HSM on Ice tonight. Sitting in the nose-bleed section, but I'm sure they'll have fun.

Take care everyone.

Just checking in fellow MCM'ers:grouphug: !!

I have been busy reading my Chi Running book and trying to stay mentally positive about 10/28 while anxiously awaiting my ortho appt on Friday.

Mike - Nice job on your runs:cool1: ! Have a blast at HSM tonight.

Colleen - Glad to see you're staying busy with the cross-training:thumbsup2 . Your yoga class sounds heavenly:love: .

Jodi - I would take a chance on the new sneaks. Please don't hold it against me if they don't work out too well:rotfl: . Just take them for a spin on your LR this weekend.

Dave - Welcome home!! Sorry to have bailed on you for a bit. Nice job on the 10 miles:woohoo: !!

Chester - Great job on the 12 miler:cheer2: ! I like your plan for the week and I may try to get those miles in myself if the knee cooperates.

I did get 3 miles in yesterday outside. After two rest days (from running) in a row I was going insane and I just couldn't take it anymore. The Chi running principle seems to be helping and I am using the foam roller like a mad woman. I am continuing to remain optimistic about my ability to cover the distance at this point. Let's just hope my doc doesn't squelch my plan.

Happy tapering to all this week:banana: . I am hoping to go for a short run outside again this evening but will see how I feel today before I decide.

Sara - Good thoughts on your possible run this afternoon. :hippie: Keep up with the Chi & really stick w/ it, it'll work. I've found it's an ongoing process that I'm constantly refining. Good luck! I KNOW you can cover the distance, chickie. Keep up the positive attitude:cool1: ! Let us know how you feel later in the day.

Mike - What do you have on tap for this weekend? Have fun @ HSM on ice tonight:banana: . Have you memorized all the songs yet?

Dave - ok, where are YOU today?

Chester - Any panther sightings

Colleen - Where are you at, woman? That's neat that your hubby is just "off to China & Germany" in a heartbeat. That must be weird for you sometimes, huh? My hubby works about 1.5 miles from our home, so...

OH yeh, forgot to mention, I ran 30 mins. this am. It was cold, dark & awesome! It was supposed to be a tempoyucky run, but I just kinda enjoyed myself & took it all in. (yes, lazy).:woohoo:

Jodi
I wouldn't have any problem running in my regular shoes (Brooks Glycerines)right out of the box. Right now I'm trying a pair of Mizuno Wave Riders and I think I will wear them for MCM. I stil want to try a pair of Mizuno Wave Creations before WDW.

No panther sightings but, I did a little research with the Fish and Game Commission and found out that there has never been a reported attack on Humans. They are very reclusive and there are only about 100 of them left in the wild.

Sara
I passed on the run Tuesday night and might not run tonight. I have a little pain in my right hip and knee as a result of pushing things Sunday. I really want to be pain/injury free on the 28th.

Mike
Yes, the prowling panthers are in the back of my mind, way back. Sunday nights 12 miler was in an undeveloped area and the moon was just a sliver. I could barely make out the road it was so dark.

Collen
They hand out warm blankies in yoga? I might have to give yoga a try.

Dave
I'm also planning on taking it slow and easy during taper. I look forward to meeting you on the 26th.

Happy tapering to all,

Chester

The kids and I just rode our bikes to school, wow, is it beautiful this morning! Overcast, not a breath of wind and 60 F, it makes me wish I was running a marathon next weekend!

I only got in a 2 mile walk yesterday. Not sure where the day went.

Chester used to wear wave widers too, I found they wore out quickly. I am now in Saucony omni Glides (I think).

Sara, I am trying to get through Chi as well. I have been reading it while walking on the treadmill at the gym. I think I need to just find a quiet place to read it to really take it all in.

Mike, good job on your runs. Sounds like your kids are keeping you busy.

Dave, so did your father decide to come afterall?

Jodi, I am kind of used to DH flying overseas now. The travel really wears him out. He left home Tuesday at 7:00 a.m. and called Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. to tell me he finally made it to his hotel room.:sad2: He flies CLT to Detroit, Detroit to Toyko and Toyko to Beijing. After he gets to Beijing, I think it is a 3 hour drive to get to his destination. The company sends his business class, so I guess it could be A LOT worse.

Off to get a walk in, maybe 6 miles. Boy, it takes a LONG time to walk 6 miles.
