Good Morning MCM Teammates:
I got 3 miles in on the TM this morning. I set the treadmill at 6.0 (10 mpm), but then I kept eeking it up after every mile because it felt so slow. I wanted to share this e-mail I sent to my DW this morning because it kind of sums up my mood for the marathon:
"I had a good run. It's been somewhat tough to get going, but once I'm running it feels good. You were asking me about my excitement for the Marine Corps Marathon. I've been doing a lot of thinking aout this upcoming marathon. Like I was saying the other day - the Disney Marathon just seemed fun and a great family trip. This marathon seems to have taken on a more serious tone. I seem to have put a lot of weight on the marathon, and think of it as representative of the journey and trials of life. When my mom died, I thought that in my mind I would run the marathon in her honor and that she'd be looking down on me as I run. I still think that way, but now I also have all this work stress along with it, and think of the marathon as a metaphor for how life is tough and difficult and you have to keep working really hard at it in order to succeed. Not really as much of a fun mindset as running through the Disney parks and high-fiveing characters."
Colleen- good for you for biking with your kids, walking 2 miles yesterday, and planning on getting out there again today. I'm really proud of your attitude of not giving up and sticking with it. Hang in there, and hopefully things will get better for your leg. Good luck with your 6 mile walk. Get some good music on your iPOD.
Chester- You've been holding out on us with your 9 min/mile pace the other day. You are going to leave me in the dust in DC. I look forward to meeting you too, and making some new friends.
Jodi- Great job on your 30 min run. Hey, it's taper time right? You don't need to do those tempoyucky runs now. Speaking of taper, I really had a hard time falling asleep last night. I didn't run yesterday, and I think I had too much bottled up energy.
Sara- Good to see you here. Good luck with your ortho appointment tomorrow! We'll be thinking of you. How'd your run yesterday go?
Mike- Nice job on the 5 miler yesterday. How was HSM on Ice? Did your DD's have a good time? HSM on stage is here in Rochester now, but we're not planning on going. The tickets really add up.
