Good Morning MCM Teammates: :surfweb:

I got 3 miles in on the TM this morning. I set the treadmill at 6.0 (10 mpm), but then I kept eeking it up after every mile because it felt so slow. I wanted to share this e-mail I sent to my DW this morning because it kind of sums up my mood for the marathon:

"I had a good run. It's been somewhat tough to get going, but once I'm running it feels good. You were asking me about my excitement for the Marine Corps Marathon. I've been doing a lot of thinking aout this upcoming marathon. Like I was saying the other day - the Disney Marathon just seemed fun and a great family trip. This marathon seems to have taken on a more serious tone. I seem to have put a lot of weight on the marathon, and think of it as representative of the journey and trials of life. When my mom died, I thought that in my mind I would run the marathon in her honor and that she'd be looking down on me as I run. I still think that way, but now I also have all this work stress along with it, and think of the marathon as a metaphor for how life is tough and difficult and you have to keep working really hard at it in order to succeed. Not really as much of a fun mindset as running through the Disney parks and high-fiveing characters."

Colleen- good for you for biking with your kids, walking 2 miles yesterday, and planning on getting out there again today. I'm really proud of your attitude of not giving up and sticking with it. Hang in there, and hopefully things will get better for your leg. Good luck with your 6 mile walk. Get some good music on your iPOD.

Chester- You've been holding out on us with your 9 min/mile pace the other day. You are going to leave me in the dust in DC. I look forward to meeting you too, and making some new friends.

Jodi- Great job on your 30 min run. Hey, it's taper time right? You don't need to do those tempoyucky runs now. Speaking of taper, I really had a hard time falling asleep last night. I didn't run yesterday, and I think I had too much bottled up energy.

Sara- Good to see you here. Good luck with your ortho appointment tomorrow! We'll be thinking of you. How'd your run yesterday go?

Mike- Nice job on the 5 miler yesterday. How was HSM on Ice? Did your DD's have a good time? HSM on stage is here in Rochester now, but we're not planning on going. The tickets really add up.

Dave - I really  your inspirational summary of your MCM mood. You can bet I will carry that thought with me on 10/28:hug: . Glad to hear the 10 mpm's were feeling slow for you:woohoo: .

Colleen - I hope your 6 mile walk went well this morning:thumbsup2 . The bike riding sounds like so much fun. It kind of makes me wish I were :moped: for 26.2 next Sunday:lmao: .

Chester - Good call on bagging the run. Now if I could only heed my own advice I may just get healthy for MCM:confused3 .

Jodi - What's up today? Nice job on the 30 minutes yesterday and I wouldn't sweat no speedwork at this late date.

Mike - Are you still basking in the HSM afterglow?

I ran about 3 miles last night but today I am sort of wishing I hadn't. I am not going to run today or tomorrow for sure. I went to Pilates this morning before work. Ortho tomorrow - day of reckoning:eek: . I will be working on my iPod playlist this weekend to get my marathon music all set.

Have a great week team:grouphug: .

Walked my 6 miles today. Ouch, my butt is killing me! It really works your glutes.

Guess what happens when you get injured, all your friends are taping for a great marathon and you are not, and your husband's away in China?:confused3 You book a CRUISE!:dance3:

My DH called last night and when I told him and he just laughed! Laughed in a good way that is! :cool1:

That will teach him...leaving me with 2 kids ...when I am already in a fragile state about my running and the marathon. :rotfl: Just kidding, he really is a great guy!

The cruise to the southern Caribbean out of San Juan and isn't until Easter of 2009, but it is still booked and I feel good.:)

Hey MCMers!!

Dave - Absolutely loved your post! I'm starting to get a little serious about this race myself, not sure why:confused3 . Your really hittin' that dreadmill lately, good for you. Believe it or not, I run slower on the dreadmill:confused3 , go figure.

Sara - Here's some mega PD :wizard: for that appt. tomorrow. Good idea staying off that leg for a few days. I'm wondering if I should get some songs on my ipod shuffle that's been in a box for about 7 months now?:lmao: I found cool earphones that are adjustable @ BJs for $30, just not sure I want to spend the $ right now. But having an ipod those last 6 miles sounds:cloud9: .

Colleen - Wow, wish I could ride my bike w/ my DS to school still. He barely wants me to pick him up @ this point:lmao: . It prolly doesn't help that I'm a bit embarassing by nature, poor kid:rolleyes1 Did you get to walk that 6 today? Are you still planning on coming up to DC? I hope so:yay: . Ooops, missed your post. Good job on the 6 miles! Lucky! A cruise...I'm holding out for the possibility of DCL going to AK in summer 2009. That I will definitely do!

Mike - :dance3: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: How was HSM? Did you manage to snag tickets to any upcoming Hannah Montana shows? I hear they are a coveted item right now:eek: .

Chester - How are you today?

Thanks for the advice on the shoes guys, I'll be wearing the new ones. Rest day today, 30 min CT tomorrow & 6 mileson Sat. It's getting warm here again, what gives???? . I look @ the DC 10 day forecast in DC which brings us to next Sat., & unless there's a serious coldfront moving in Sat. night, we might be in for a warm day. Sat. says 54 for the low & 70 for a high. UGH. EXCUSE ME, it's fall! You know, pumpkins, apple pie & all that crap? Can we have some cooperation here?

Hey Folks,

HSM on Ice was a lot of fun. The girls really had a good time. Pretty fun to see DD4 just singing away, knowing all the words.

Dave - I know what you mean about tickets adding up, but we got $7.00 seats. Those seats would've been O.K. but they were seriously in very top row of the arena, with 3 of the seats at the top of the aisle (no seats in front). DW had visions of one of our lovely chickeedoodles reenacting "the agony of defeat" ski jump trick from Wide World of Sports and checked with someone to see if we would be able to move a few spots down the row. They were nice enough to move us all the way down to the $30 section at no additional charge.:thumbsup2

We also gave them the "you just ate dinner and don't need a $15 sno-cone (in a flashing souvenir cup) or an $8.00 cotton candy (with a souvenir hat) and I don't care how cute Troy is, you aren't getting a $38 t-shirt" speech before we left home. They were eyeing each of the stands pretty good but didn't ask for anything.

I'll echo everyone else and say how impressed I am with your inspirational post. It's prompted me to do a little soul searching about what I want to accomplish with this race.

Jodi - No Hannah Montana tickets for us (although I'm sure they would be much apprectiated).

Colleen - Yippee for the cruise! You better watch this taper madness.

Sara - Good luck with the ortho. I hope the news is all good.

I was going out to run this morning and decided at the last minute to leave the Garmin at home. I wanted to have a nice and easy run but always hear that damn thing whispering in my ear "just a little faster and you can finish with a ___ pace", "just a little faster and you can finish with negative splits".

So I ran. I have no idea how fast. I have no accurate idea how far (somewhere between 7 and 10 miles). Just settled in to that nice "I could run all day" pace and did a big loop. I love having that freedom every once in a while.

I think I'll rest Friday unless DW wants to hit the road or trail and maybe do another 8-10 on Sat. Then I'll really taper next week.

Hey, is anyone out there lurking on this thread on a regular basis? Just curious to see who's reading along with us.

Okay, still lurking here--hate being called out on that!;) You guys are gonna do awesome next week! Looks like that fall weather is on it's way for most of the US by at least Tues. next week. WISHing we could be there with ya'll, but we'll be sending lots of PD and best WISHes from WDW next weekend!

I've just now gotten back in the swing of things since Akron, but haven't gotten a double digit LR accomplished yet--but that's from lack of trying. I've been in the "I hate running" slump and just now getting out of it. I've been training for something since last Sept, and still now I'm supposedly training for Disney. I've gone to the 3 runs a week FIRST plan w/more xtraining. I think doing things other than running is beginning to pull me out of my "mood". I've been out on the tennis court with my dsis 3x in the past 2 weeks and what fun.

Okay, enough about me--have a great time and safe travels next week. We're leaving for a marriage retreat this weekend and then Disney on Thursday. Might not be able to check in before then! Can't wait to read the race reports--gotta find someone at ToT that has internet access so we can see how awesome ya'll did!:woohoo:

Sara - How'd you make out @ the ortho?

Hey MCMers!

Just a quick hit & run

Weather forecast now says 70 w/ 40% chance of showers:scared1: . I'll just stick to my theory that meteorologists don't know what they're talking about:rotfl: .

30 Min CT today, 6 tomorrow. I may increase the mileage tomorrow (i know, i know), but I really feel yucky this week, very agitated & in more of a foul mood than usual:confused3 . What else could it be than lack of exercise? I'm usually such a princess: so this could be the only explanation...:rotfl2:

Sara - How'd you make out @ the ortho?
I'm not going until 2:00 so I will post later...
I have to admit to looking at the weather forecast also. I checked on accuweather and it didn't look too bad. I should start to get obsessive sometime next week about it though:confused3 .:lmao::rotfl: About the need to increase mileage because you're more foul than usual. It definitely can be attributed to lack of exercise - just ask my DH:rotfl2:

Oooh, I'm waiting to hear how it goes too. Good luck with your appointment Sara.

Yoga again this morning, new instructor, this time not only did we have warm blankets but she also came around and gave us all temple massages with scented oils. Are all yoga classes like this?

Good luck Sara, can't wait to hear your ortho report today. :wizard:

Jodi, you, in a foul mood, can't be.:)

Oooh, I could use a temple massage with scented oil. Does your DH know you're doing this while he's gone?

Colleen- I forgot to say congrats on the cruise. That's awesome. I'm holding out for the possibility of a Disney cruise summer 2009 in Alaska. That would be awesome!
I'm holding out for the possibility of a Disney cruise summer 2009 in Alaska. That would be awesome!
Dave - I'm holding out for this as well! Maybe we'll cruise together & run together!!:lmao:

Colleen - Uh, no, all yoga classes are not like that! If they were, I woulda stuck with a bit more:banana:

And the foul mood continues to grow...boy is my DS lucky he's sleeping over a friend's house, but my poor Stepkids (DSD 16 & DSS 12) are coming over for the weekend, poor souls:sad2: . I mean, step-mom's are heinous by nature, then they get me for a double whammy!

Jodi- Don't stepkids expect the step-mom to be Wicked? That's what we learn from all those fairy tales.

Hi all,

I am responding to the request for lurkers to make themselves known. I recently joined the Disboards and have been looking around on the site and happened upon this thread and have been reading a few of the posts. I will be running the MCM on the 28th. This will be my first marathon. Getting very excited/nervous. I wish next Sunday would hurry up and get here.

Cindy

Dave - That's me, all about fulfilling fairy tales for the little ones:lmao:

CINDY - Wow, hey WELCOME! So glad you made yourself known! First marathon? ARGHHHH! I can understand the nervousness...my belly gets all silly when I think about it! We'll have to find you in DC! And again, welcome! Are you attending solo or w/ family? Wanna run with us? It should be, uh, interesting.

Jodi - Thanks for the welcome. I actually live in Arlington and work in DC so at least I don't have to worry about traveling to get to the race!

My DH and a friend of ours will also be running but we won't be running together - they are much faster than I am. Since this is my first marathon, I'm trying not to set a time goal for myself but plan on starting out running at a 10:30/mile pace. I ran the Army 10 miler 2 weeks ago and had a terrible race (WAY off my PR) because I started out way too fast (I knew I was being stupid but couldn't seem to stop myself). Anyway, I have promised myself to start slow for this race. I seem to recall a post from you about wanting a four hour marathon (at least I think that was from you) so I think I'm a bit too slow to run with you, but thanks for the offer!

Cindy

Welcome Cindy- Yay! Another WISHer on the team. I heard the Army 10 miler was brutal hot. I was just in Arlington last week for a meeting at the National Science Foundation. It was a great visit, but I was surprised by the hills there by the Rosslyn metro stop.

Cindy - Oh cool, you're right there. 4 hours is a dream, I highly doubt I'll do that, a 4:15 would be great, for me anyway. What is the weather going to do? See if you can fix it for us, huh?;)

Jodi- I'm sure you fulfilled DH's fairy tale WISHes too...

:lmao: :rotfl: Um, I'll let him answer to that himself next Friday! BTW, there are no hills in DC or anywhere on the course for that matter!

Hey Collen, perhaps Local Cindy can tell us if our restaurant is a good one? Not that it matters, the company will be great:love: . You better be there, woman!!!
