Lou - you've been running pretty fast - what's you goal pace for the marathon?

Cindy - Good question. Running fast is one thing but running fast for a long time is another. My goal right now is to run a sub 4-hour marathon and to be able to finish strong. I tend to lose it after mile 18 or so. The goal pace is whatever I have to run to finish under 4 hours. We'll see.

Greetings Everyone: OK, I just had to turn in my official resignation of my position here at the University of Rochester. I felt kind of crappy about it so what do I do about it? Shopping Therapy!!!

I registered for the Expedition Everest Challenge! OK Jodi and Cindy, it's official, I'm in. BTW registration was at 90% capacity too.

Hi Guys!!!

Cindy - The 9 miles happened, that's all I'm going to say about it:confused3 . On top of my present knee issues, I have a history of chronic sublaxation of both knees and my right knee (the bad one) decided to slip out of place Friday night while I was sleeping. That usually strains all of the surrounding tissue so I knew it wasn't going to be a fun run:confused: . I thought you left for WDW last weekend! Have an awesome time showing Matt the sights:banana: .

Lou - Your Philly goal sounds like a good one:yay: . With your pace on the 16 miles, it should be a piece of cake:thumbsup2 .

Dave - :rotfl: having to do the shopping therapy due to the resignation. Congrats on taking the Everest plunge:woohoo: .

4 or so miles this morning - felt okay;) . Work is still beating me up big time so I may be lying low again:scared: .

Howard - Glad to hear the injury seems fully resolved:cheer2: . Great pace on the 8 miles:banana: .

Jodi - I might have to get a look at YOUR training plan:rotfl2: . Remember, I'm training for a 1/2 next month:rolleyes1 . Yeah, I am :rotfl: at your lack of motivation these days. Get out there girl:hug: . You can always run the 1/2 with me in Novemberpopcorn::

Hi Bots

OK, still no motivation going on here... Although I think I ran Saturday for a little while....?:confused3 At least I've been walking with my son to prep him to start running for the Yeit!

Dave - :yay: :yay:  I'm soooo excited you're going to be at the YETI! We'll all have to meet up before hand, you, me, Cindy & Chester. A baby-Bot meet! :grouphug: Too fun!!

Sara - Nice run, woman!! You GO!! Apparently my mileage has decided to take a trip up to Lake George & leave me stranded with nary a double digit run to speak of :lmao: Oh well!

Cindy - 17 miles???:thumbsup2 Holy crap, that's awesome....uh, we're training for the same race, right? PHilly in Nov.? ;) . I plugged in a schedule for myself today on smart coach & it spit out a pretty silly plan, but it's easy so I"m gonna go with it!:cool1: Promise you'll go easy for a bit in FL.

I've always wanted to check out Portofino & look forward to a review! That & POR, you're going to have such a fun time! Be careful & safe!

Howard - So glad you're feeling better....totally jealous of the mileage.

Mike & emmmyLou - Ditto, how come everyone's all into this running stuff lately except me?:sad1: ...:rotfl2:

Chester & Chick P - Are guys still with us? or did they stop the CPR????? Where are ya'll?

Colleen - I'm assuming you're still on the prairie, eh?

OK, so now I have a schedule I'm going to run....no really, I am!!:rolleyes1

Hi guys! Thanks for the nice words of support and encouragement. No need to be envious of anything (Jodi). In my time off last week I gained back 3 of the pounds I had lost. Ugh. :headache: They will come off again, but I'd rather they be new pounds, not old revisited ones.

Today was my XT day. I still took it a bit easier than usual. I did the miles, I just didn't push it too hard. By the way, funny thing, the bike I used last week that (I believe) contributed to my Hip Flexor Strain last wee is now "Out of Order." Strange? I think not!

Tonight I used:

Upright bike: 6 miles in 20:44
Elliptical X-trainer: 3.1 miles in 28:14

I decided not to lift when the place was mobbed. I didn't want to wait.

Have a great night! GO USA!!!

Who me? A thread killer? I hope not. Where is everyone?

Hello once again. Welcome to my workout! Tonight's effort....it was a twilight run (cool, getting dark, pleasant).

Miles: 4.01
Time: 33:27
Pace: 8:20

Splits:
8:14
8:24
8:17
8:23

Not too shabby (as they say). Especially considering that the first and last miles have a considerable hill as a part of them.

Tomorrow I am running in a 5K event in Wilmington, DE. I think it begins around 6:45 or 7 PM. I'll post results afterwards.

Have a wonderful evening!

Greetings Everyone: It has been really quiet around here lately. Monday I did my speedwork at the high school track - 6x 800m intervals (DD7 pooh: was with me and played in the sandpit), and yesterday I ran 5 miles in ~9 mpm pace. Today is some biking x-training.

I'm here, just crazy busy at work trying to get out of here for my vacation.:cool1:
I was planning on doing a tempo run yesterday (8 miles with 4 at tempo), but my legs did not want to cooperate. They felt like they each weighed 100 lbs and my knee was bothering me, so .2 miles into the tempo portion, I bagged it and just ran 8 easy miles. This morning I did a 5 mile recovery run. It felt more difficult than it should have. I'm really glad I'll be taking a break while on vacation, I think I may have had to anyway.

Hope everyone is having a great week! I'll try to get back on before I leave but I'm not sure if I'll be able to.

Bots -

I'm here :yay: .

Dave - I'll have to keep Pitts. in mind!!! BTW, I never commented on your kick a** cross country run, what a pace!! Doesn't appear we'll be running any marathons together anymore :confused3 ;) .

ThreadKiller - Will be waiting for a report on that 5K today, have fun! I'm so glad your ailment fixed itself, but go easy...the weather has been a bit cooler, huh? I LOVE it! Your efforts, as you call them, have been terrific, keep it up! And don't fret over that 3lbs :rotfl: !

Cindy - Bound for DISNEY in a few days, eh? :dance3: NICE:thumbsup2 . Listen, about this speed work stuff, it's just not in my genes! I'm feelin' your last post about heavy legs & such & I haven't even been running "real" tempo runs yet :lmao: . Don't worry about keeping in touch over your vacation, we'll forgive you :guilty: .

Hey all you others!

OK, so I ran this a.m., supposed to be a 5 mile w/ 3 @ tempo. It stunk real hard...I think I'm still trying to get over that 3 mile tempo run from last week! . When I ran Sat (recovery from said tempoyucky run) it was really hard...I only went 4 miles. We'll see what happens. I have a feeling this speed crap will either make or break me popcorn:: .

Hello Friends, Romans, Countrymen;

I may be posting from home or I may be posting from a Disney property that rhymes with Nero Peach. One never knows!

Dave - Congrats on the Yeti! I'm jealous. Maybe I'll have to pretend I'm quitting my job and sign up for a race soon.

Cindy - Sorry for the cement legs. A little R & R (neither of them "running") sounds like just the ticket.

Howard - Nice job on working through a little bump in the road. I'd like to have your level of motivation right now.

Jodi - Hey! Way to go on picking a plan! Since you asked for my advice;) , I think your disdain for speedwork is more in your head than your legs. Once you get your noggin' on straight... Wait, who the heck am I talking about speedwork? I haven't really done any in months. Nevermind.

Not much to talk about for me on the running front. I may get a few miles in the next few days, but maybe not.

Take care everyone. And in case you want to know, I wouldn't trade places with any of you right now!:beach:

I HAVE A NEW PR! :cool1: :yay: :dance3: :cheer2: :rolleyes1

I ran in the 4th Tour de Lance 5K tonight at 6:30 PM. I ran it in a personal best time, a time that has stood in the record books since way back on March 18, 2005! My former PR for a 5K event was: 24:53 (8:02 pace).

Tonight's numbers:

Miles: 3.16
Time: 24:23
Pace: 7:42

Splits:
7:14
7:37
8:18

I felt good, a bit winded after the second mile, but I held tough to the pace I have been running at in training.

I will be enjoying the afterglow of this one.

Have a great night everyone!

:grouphug:

Howard

Howard - I was bold enough to drop in on the main thread for the first time in ages and post my congrats on your PR but I'll post it here as well:cool1:  :yay: :cheer2: :worship: :worship: Man, you rock!!! That is an awesome time. I hope you're feeling fine today and continuing to bask in the afterglow.

Mike - Thanks for checking in and I hope wherever you are it's one heck of a magical time for you and your four fine princesses:love: . Enjoy!

Jodi - I have to agree with Mike:confused3 that the speedwork may all be a mental thing:hippie: . Get your head in the game and you might just be loving it after you see how much it helps your pace:banana: . I know, easy for me to say when you know I'm not much into the speedwork myself:laughing: .

Cindy - Travel safe and have a magical time:cloud9: . Relax and take a break from running for the duration of your vacation. Your legs will thank you:thumbsup2 .

Dave - Southwest flies to PIT from ALB so you know I'd seriously consider Pittsburgh for next year:grouphug: .

Colleen - Miss you:hug: and hope you're enjoying the family in Canada. Travel safe and hope to see you soon:yay: .

Lou - I hope you're having a great week:hippie: .

Chester & Steve - :wave2:

Rest day today:woohoo: . I'm watching "Stop Loss" right now to get the heart rate up so I suppose it could be considered cross-training:rotfl2: . The running's been good and I think I'm doing 8 on Saturday:eek: .

I'm here too but it's been a crazy week. It's nice to be out on my own but it's pretty intense right now...mostly in a good way.

I had the worst run this afternoon that I have had in probably over a year. I was in Philly today and planned to run a 7-mile speed run (3@7:17) this afternoon. Well, it ended up being a slow run. I struggled to maintain a 10-minute mile pace and could barely finish. I realized what I did wrong after i finished...

1. I got 4 hours of sleep last night.
2. I forgot you need carbs to run and I skipped breakfast and ate nothing but a tuna salad for lunch.

By the time I "walked" to the top of the Art Museum steps at Mile 7 I was 100% wasted. I'm still struggling to feel better and it's been 3 hours since I finished.

Lou

Sara~ Thanks! I am still basking in the afterglow a bit. It really hasn't sunk in yet. I felt a bit sore today, but that didn't keep me from getting out there again. I was supposed to run 6 (according to my schedule) but I ran 4 easy ones.

Miles: 4.01
Time: 38:58
Pace: 9:43

Splits:
9:39
10:42
9:13
9:21

Lou~ I know we've all had days like that. Today I had no breakfast (just juice and a blueberry bar) and a few wheat thins and water (for lunch) before my run. I had nothing to give (but I gave it all).

Have a great evening everyone!

:grouphug:

Finally getting to read some posts...

Cindy - Wow...I think we had the same problem. My legs felt like 100 lbs too. Have fun in WDW!!!

Dave - I'll keep Pittsburgh in mind for next year. More than likely I will end up running the NJ Marathon in May but we'll see.

Jodi - Looks like you and Cindy had the same problem as me. Maybe it was something in the air?

Howard - You just keep plotting along. You have been a running machine this summer.

Sara - Nice to see you are progressing. It looks like you will be fine for the PDR.

Mike - If you are in Vero Beach you are having a much better time then I am right now.

Hey Colleen, Chester, Steve!

Lou

Greetings Everyone:

I ran another 5k+ x-country race last night, and finished in 24:36 min (7:19 mpm for the 3.37 mile course). Today I did 3 miles - 3x around a 1 mile gravel trail around another neighborhood park.

However, the real news in our family is not so happy. Last night my cat of 18 years passed away. It had led a very full life, but it was still sad to see him go. I got the cat in 1991 from an animal shelter in Evanston, IL. I've had the cat longer than I've been married, and we've been through a lot together. He was always a very shy cat, and I was the only one he was really close to. He would snuggle with me, and hang out with me. Every night he put my wife and I to bed - walking us upstairs, jumping on the bed after we got in, walking around the bed, and once he knew we were settled in he would leave (OK - it's a little anthropomorphic but what can you say). Last night he put me to bed (my wife was still watching the Olympics), but when he jumped off the bed he must have had a heart attack or stroke or something. He fell over on his side, and made some loud yowls. I got down to check him out, and knew he wouldn't be getting back up. I stayed with him and petted and stroked him while he took his last few breaths. It was very sad. I buried him in the back yard this morning. I have to say I'm glad I was there when he passed, and would have been even sadder if he had passed away while I was out of town. Thanks for listening.

Dave - :grouphug:  :sad1: SO sorry to hear about your cat...18 years is a loooong time. Nothing anthropomorphic about your post, I've had animals a lot less time than that & their deaths really take a toll. I'm real glad you were there, though, to comfort him in the end. I hope the family's doing ok.

Dave - Deeply sorry to hear of your cat's passing:hug: . Definitely a downer and I hope you and yours are all hanging in there:grouphug: . Glad you were there for him at the end and he got a proper burial. Be well and perhaps take a break for a bit to give yourself the time you need to mourn.
