Pete - how's the signal booster working?

Linda,

An alternative to wireless you might want to consider is Powerline Networking.
Thanks! :thumbsup2

That does sound like a perfect solution. I hate spending another $150 when I just bought the Linksys dual band n router- but if that's whay it takes- it should be worth it.

Is anyone else using this, or have any personal experience with it?

Linda,

An alternative to wireless you might want to consider is Powerline Networking. They're adapters that plug into your wall outlet and have a regular ethernet network jack on them. You would need 2. One would plug into a wall outlet by your router and you'd connect a network cable from it to your router. The other would plug into a wall outlet by your blu-ray and you'd connect a network cable to it. The standard has matured and is faster now, going from 85 to 200 and now up to 1000 Mbps.

Powerline stuff can be problematic though, depending on your house wiring, etc. I've got fairly old wiring (still have a fusebox and blow fuses occasionally in the summer, and even the winter if the wrong things are on!), and have had problems with those powerline phone adapters, so getting 85+Mb/s across it is a stretch...I'd like to borrow some first to see if they'd work before I pay the money.

Another alternative, depending on your equipment location, is MOCA, which is essentially ethernet-over-coax, which is often use by cable companies now. Verizon FIOS uses it for all cable box admin communications and VOD. You can get speeds around 200Mb/s now with some of the later MOCA adapters.

Its actually working out really well. This is the one I bought:

http://www.amazon.com/Hawking-HWREN1-Hi-Gain-Wireless-300N-Extender/dp/B001DMEYCY/ref=pd_cp_e_1

As has been mentioned here, these do cut down on your bandwidth in the 'extended' area, but it's more than enough for what I need. I'm not using this for file transfer or big downloads, just to provide a stable connection thru the rest of the house. The way my house is laid out and the way it was built is NOT friendly to WiFi at all. I actually pay for two internet connections coming into the house - the studio has one wireless connection to itself as all of us are using it during the show (the show has become a mini-Apple store of late).

Do you offer tours? I'd like to get a fastpass for late December!

Thanks for the feedback, Pete! Sounds like this just may do the trick for us as we are mainly just surfing the net.
