I totally understand how you feel about the mothers' attire. My MIL wore a black pantsuit. Mind you, our wedding was done in spring pastel colors
She looked like she was going to a funeral.
Don't stress about the money and cutting things. I got totally freaked out about things and in the end picked my top priorities and made sure I had all those items and then added from there what I could reasonably afford. We're still paying off the wedding now 2 years later, but set up an amount of money we knew we could afford to pay per month for a couple of years.

If I were you, I'd just tell her you were thinking another color would be better suited for her? I requested that my mom and then FMIL wear shades of our wedding colors. Hope it all works itself out to your benefit though!
What is even stranger is that she is a stickler for etiquette...again I ask-what happened here? She told my mom that she wants to know if it is ok so she is going to send me a picture. I'm waiting for the picture...but just need to be up front with her.
We could not agree on any of the escape cakes! So, this is a good compromise...if they charge me a little I'm just going to go with it b/c we can't decide on the 6 they suggested...
