We adopt Herbie back in September. They guess him to be about 6 months old now. The other day I had him netured. When I got him home I noticed something didn't seem right with his urinating. So I brought him back in and the vet thinks he has a blockage. Here is the latest with my Herbie. I am so worried about the poor guy. We had to put our 13 yr old cat asleep this past January from a brain tumor, we finally were able to move on and adopt another little baby to love and now this...I am very worried!!!!
The vet called this morning. Herbie is doing a little worse from overnight. There is more blood in his urine. I went up to the vet to see and hold him. When they first brought him in he wasn't making a sound, the moment he got in my arms he was purring away! I broke down and cried! It was so good to have him in my arms yet I am so scared too.
The vet is pretty sure there is a blockage. She was able to get some very tiny pieces out but they were very tiny, more like grit of dirt like. She said it is possible that his bladder is full of these tiny grits of pieces they could be irating the bladder causing it to bleed. She also thinks he does have a UTI too, she thinks they are feeding off each other. She doesn't know which came first though.
So the plan is Herbie will be getting an IV to flush his kidneys, they will be putting a cathider (sp?) in him and flush him totally out until his urine is clear again.
She did show me the urine sample they got out this morning and it is very red.
Most likely he will be there until Saturday
I know he is in the best place but I just want him home.
She said when all this is said and done we will have to talk about a special diet for him.
She thinks he will be OK, although she said there are risks but he is young and for the most part healthy.
PLEASE keep Herbie in your prayers.....I am so scared!!!!
Also if anyone has dealt with blockage or UTI in kittens and has info or questions I should be asking the vet PLEASE send them my way!
I never dealt with this in cats before
THANK YOU!
************UPDATE*******************
The vet just called me. She is having a very difficult time unblocking Herbie.
She is sending him to an emergency animal clinic in the cities and hoping they can help him. She said he may have to have surgery.
I am so scared, I can't go through this again!!!!!!!!!
